Shepard leaned against the airlock, sliding down to a sitting position, and rested his head in hands - taking in a deep breath as he felts the g-force of Joker and EDI getting the Normandy into warp and out of the Collector ship blast radius press against his chest. As he stared at the exit door – he couldn’t help but realize how lucky they had been.
They were told they weren’t going to make it out of it – but they did. It was a suicide mission – but they lived. Shepard wasn’t sure if it was luck, skill, or pure will that helped him and his team get out of that place alive. They shouldn’t have made it out – but they did.
The airlock door hissed open – and in the doorway stood Miranda, blotches of blood covered her white outfit – another reminder of how lucky they were.
She raised a brow at him, “You okay?”
He stood up and grabbed his side, a feeling of pain erupted in his body. He looked at his hand, realizing that his suit had been ruptured and he was bleeding everywhere.
He looked up at Miranda, a worried expression came over her face as soon as she saw his bloody hand, “We need to get you to the infirmary – now.”
Shepard tried to take a step forward but his vision blurred – and he stumbled into Miranda’s arms. He looked up at her, tears started to form in her eyes.
“Miranda..”
“Don’t.. don’t do this to me, Shepard – you promised!”
He reached up, and touched her cheek, smirking, “I know… and I’m sorry…”
The tears had begun to flow freely now, her words became that of protest, “No, no, no – I’m not going to lose you, damnit!”
He put all of his strength into standing up straight, gave her one last kiss, and while staring deeply into her grayish-blue eyes, he muttered, “I love you, Miranda,”
The last thing he saw was the one thing he treasured most in the world – and as the darkness overtook him, a smile came to his face.
He faded away to her screaming out for help, his hand still holding her’s.

Oh man that is a tear jerket Rathias. How could you force us to read something as heartbreaking as that? A fantastic job, and I can't wait to read more.

Miranda was one of those characters I thought I would hate given what we've saw in the trailers. Now she is one of my favorite Mass Effect characters from both a character point of view and power point of view. I bring her along on the majority of my missions. As far as squad mates go she is in the top 3. She is also one of my favorite Mass Effect characters in general. I hope she is in Mass Effect 3.

Yeah I was sort of disappionted they were introducing two new human characters...but Miranda completely charmed me and impressed me with her skill set.  I always bring her along now.  Really hoping she will stay on the crew until the end.

I hope they stick to their word, unlike what the team working on Dragon Age has done with Awakenings.

If Shep is dead at suicide mission he should remain dead! No new Lazarus monkey carp.

Edit: When started a new game yesterday, I was "aww" ing at the opening bit when Miri is standing over Shep. I love that scene. They got the whole 'just woke up whilst in hospital' feel to it just right.

I just want to see the dialogue, but in keep this Shepard single the whole story...

Casey Hudson has said that if Shepard dies in the end of ME2 then, for that story at least, it is over. ME3 is Shepard's story again. You either start a new game and create a new Shep or you import your ME2 survival playthrough.

Yes, and all the romances can be broken up right before the suicide mission. If you had a ME1 LI, then you go back to being with them essentially, and Shepard will instead reflect over the ME1 LI's picture in his quarters. If your Shep is single, I'm not sure what scene ensues.

Talk to her after the suicide mission in her office.  I think you can end with her the usual way still.

Just poking in to help the thread out... Miranda is awesome. I have tried to stop using her in my squad just to shake things up a bit on my thirdish/fourthish playthrough, but can't. She's too awesome.

I know it is, but that could still mean they could pull a "we aren't bothered if you aren't bothered to ignore the fact in your playthrough shep died" rubbish that is being said regarding Awakenings. I know it is a player choice. But it is just wrong. It's almost like saying... "If you really want to you can just go through the relay with 8 non-loyal members, get everyone killed and not have to worry as you can then pretend it was all a dream when you fire up your import in ME3" <_<

Totally destroys the point of doing the suicide mission.

Just finished Mirandas loyalty mission. The first time I went through ME2 I didn't pay much attention to the details - too much stuff about the game I was still unfamiliar with. But the voice acting in that scene with Miranda and Oriana is first-class.



I also rescind my opinion that Liara's appearance is bad. This time I found it rather convincing, probably because I, again, paid more attention to the details, and I got the tone of voice better because this time I played without subtitles.



Now I must sift through my dozens of screenshots to see if some are post-worthy.
