DA didn't have a weak romance though. All of them were touching and deep in their own ways. My favourite is Leliana though, followed by Morrigan. While Morrigan obviously correlates to Miri in many respects, the fact that there is no resolution puts a hamper on it. There are other issues (her physicalism is odd in a world with magic and miracles), but I do like her. However, the fiery spiritualist fit me perfectly... not my character, but me. She has her beliefs, she allows others their beliefs, and she doesn't give a damn about what other people say about the situation. Her line about "knowing in her heart" was something I hadn't heard anyone else say period, let alone a game character. It was refreshing.
As for ME3... I don't see any new romances. Maybe some hinted ones from ME1 and ME2 opening up, but no brand spanking new ones. Most of the romance subplots should be tied into the existing romance lines. Hopefully, since playing after ME2 does hint at things, it seems that relationships should be much like DA. There will be dialogue and such, but one can invite them up for some smoochie time. Of course I'd probably never finish the game seeing as how I'd either be cuddling with Ash or Miri all the time...
The thing I liked about Morrigan's romance was that despite having a bit of a crummy ending for the Warden, it tied into the main plot, for better or worse. Morrigan was a central character to the story, so I'm curious whether romancing her has any effect with story down the road- that said, DA being a "dark heroic fantasy" the writers might want to make Morrigan's story all tragic and such- I sure hope not...
I would bet there will be new ME3 romances along with potential new squadmates. I REALLY hope you can bring all of the ME2 ones back provided they survived and I am cautiously optimistic that Bioware will really try to top ME2 by going crazy with divergent storylines, seeing as ME3 is the end for Shepard and they don't need to worry about continuity into a next game.

One of my playthrough's for example I 'jumped her bones' pretty quickly since leaving Ostagar and was sleeping with her past that crossroads town. Pretty much every time I remembered too, I slept with her in camp (my guy was a Cousland, and thus of course, had 'needs') but when she realises she loves you, she becomes incredibly frustrated with you and cuts you off, pleading for 'release.' Because I wanted to see how this ended, I refused and even at the end even though she did what she originally wanted to do, she was beautifully conflicted about it, even confessing that she wanted to be with Mr. Cousland more than Mr. Cousland would ever know. I think this was awesome as a storytelling mechanic, because if she did indeed stay, I think it would be a massive compromise to her character and be much less 'real.'
Other than the fact that Miranda isn't 'easy', I think Morrigan and Miranda are quite similar (both very strong and driven women who hide behind others attitudes on who they are and how they should act)

Yeah but thats what Yvonne's teeth sort of look like in real life... although sometimes the teeth in ME2 scare me- I mean Jacob's teeth are HUGE and sometimes when people talk the shadowing makes the teeth look funky

I liked Morrigan a lot too, I thought she was amazingly complex with all sorts of motivations driving at her. I remember someone said to me she was stupid because she's 'easy' but as a character, not really.

Totally agree about Morrigan- as a fellow Cousland Warden, the ending was frustrating to say the least but so long as we get some resolution with the whole Old God Baby thing and the potential for some sort of reunion in a future DA game, I'll be happy.
But yeah, Morrigan and Miranda I guess have certain similarities- although when you start thinking about it you could argue that most Bioware female LI's share certain traits or backgrounds. I mean even Jack and Miranda have alot more in common than they obviously would realize...

Yeah both Miri and Morrigan were marketed as Ms. Fanservice. Pity both characters deserved better...though Miranda faired a little better in the marketing.
Thats one thing I've kind of come to expect with some of Bioware's marketing- the marketing can't really do a good job at portraying certain characters beyond stereotypes. With DAO and even ME2, I almost got less interested in the games the more I saw of them.
DAO's marketing wasn't great, especially with Morrigan seeming like a pair of boobs the whole time and the Marilyn Manson metal trailers..... ME2 was far better though- that launch trailer alone was 100 different kinds of epic.
But the fact that the marketing can't portray a character well is a good thing, IMO, and could be intentional. Otherwise there wouldn't be much left for us to uncover about these characters.
There's also an interesting side effect. It allows us to see who's willing to learn about and understand the characters and who starts out with preconceived ideas and doesn't pay attention. Case in point the guy who came to the thread and said Miranda was just a chick with daddy issues. From his justification, we could clearly see he didn't listen to her.
I don't mind stereotypes because I'm allways willing to give any character the benefit of the doubt and try to understand them, regardless of any preconceived notions I may have.
Regarding Miranda, as I've already said, the first time I knew of her existence was when I saw the cinematic trailer and she caught my attention because I thought she looked stunning. Then her trailer portrayed her as a no-nonsense, professional woman. I liked that, but again knew very little about her and despite these positive reactions, I didn't really care because she might turn out like ME1 LIs, both of whom didn't do much for me.
So I was very pleasantly surprised to find so much I loved in a character who had caught my attention merely because of her beauty and stereotype, but who still had been irrelevant to me until I actually got to know her.

It's bad enough here. It must not be allowed to spread.

I think similarities between two enemies for example is very interesting, not matter how many times it's been 'done before'. No one, afterall, likes flat characters (i.e, purely evil or purely good... with the exception of Kefka from one of the earlier Final Fantasy's) which makes a character's motivations even more interesting and essential.
Take Saren for example, despite him being 'bad,' he was doing it for what he undoubtedly saw as good reasons (he wanted to survive, and he wanted society to survive in some fashion, obviously feeling it was preferable than utter extinction). While we question his methods, surely we don't question his goals to just 'wanting to exist.'
For much the same reason, I like Cerberus and I like The Illusive Man. He is willing to make perhaps morally bankrupt reasons but believes absolutely (i.e., without a single trace of doubt) that in the end his decisions will be completely vindicated and this is a belief shared by his operatives. Cerberus isn't 'evil' (read how he organises his front companies to ferry support to the survivors of Horizon for example), it doesn't hate aliens at all, it just doesn't believe humanity should kowtow to their every whim, it believes utterly in its goal of advancement, no matter what form advancement should bring. I personally believe that if humanity reaches technological singularity in the Mass Effect universe, it would be Cerberus that would lead the charge... covertly of course.
I don't want to kill TiM or Cerberus at all in ME3, I think it should be an organisation that while it may go from strength to strength, should never completely fade away.

BTW. I've started a novelization of ME 2 with Shepard/Miranda pairing. Check it out if you're curious enough.

I find the hate of Cerberus to be odd especially when people simultaneously praise the Alliance. During the Shanxi occupation, the Alliance were not the primary human force. The Alliance took the necessary actions required to liberate the colony and subsequently were praised for it even though it would've resulted in full scale Human-Turian war without the intervention of the council. Cerberus was originally an Alliance group and are now taking what they consider 'necessary action'.Arijharn wrote...

I did ninja all of them for my photobucket.
One of these days I'll organize my photobucket enough to be able to link my Miranda and Yvonne albums on the front page. I haven't got EVERYTHING posted here, but I have quite a lot of them.
And I'll put the fanfic link on the front page.

Though I can't resist commenting that Cerberus was preserved by the ME writers for a REASON. Even if you left Cerberus, TiM is still around to provide you with intelligence and information, allowing to possibly serve as the main "quest giver" again in ME3.
