I originally thought that in ME2, Tali would be a definite shoo-in for me now that Ashley had dumped me because of her lack of faith in me.
However, after playing and completing the game and doing all the loyalty missions, there is something about Tali's character which i do not really like, bucket head or not. Does it not bother any one that Tali is a bigot and desires for racial genocide in the Geth as well as wanting to "save face" in protecting her father's work at all costs even if that meant lying?
Yes, as a person and as i play my main Shepard character, i am uncomfortable with racism and a need to constantly "save face" to the point of outright deception. While i sympathised with the death of the characters's father (which was really quite touching and sad especially since i am a parent and can empathise), her blindless unthinking devotion and loyalty to her father and her race just puts me off. Bigotry, Xenophobia, Prejudice and a need to put up a "good front" does that to me.
Miranda, for all the "Ice Queen" and whatever nonsense gets thrown her character's way, is not really like that as the story moved along.
She is no pro-human **** like TIM but is not an alien apologeticist. She is pragmatic about aliens and the role & space they occupy in thr Universe. Much like my own views and hence, my main character's view. She is neutral and so am i about race issues.
Miranda is not above learning and doing things differently, like when it was advised that she speak to her sister. It was a "growth" moment for her, imho as she wrestles with her need to feel connected and her desire to protect her sensitive feelings by remaining aloof.
After the loyalty mission, there were many moments whereby she displayed that she was following the typical stereotypical "Ice Queen Thawing" and while predictable (in the same way that Jack is the psycho whipped pet who desires assurance and security and Tali is the nerdy geek-chick who cyber stalks the objects of their affection), it seemed to be pretty convincing and in sync with her overall character.
However, there are additional b**ch moments when she acts all superior especially when she volunteers to lead the 2nd Team and maintain the Biotic shield but hey, who is perfect, right?
i think what makes her very human to me and "real" to me is how the dialogue makes her appears like she is adjusting albeit akwardly to opening herself to the main character and maintainly her aloof, pragmatic self.
The winning moment is when she told TIM to fxxk off (if she is in your squad as you make the decision to blow up the Collector Base). She finally realised that TIM is
wrong and that she had learnt certain truths about Cerberus and TIM
(although i don't know how her sister is gonna be protected from
henceforth by Cerberus). Maybe she realised what my character and i did and that is that:
- Although the Collector technology is superior to current technology, it really is Reaver tech and like what Legion (or someone else said), the Reavers left their technology behind so that they can predict the developmental line of species who adopt and adapt to the obviously superior tech. Hence, if we were to use that, we would be falling into the Reaver's original trap for both the Proteans and the Geth Heretics.
- That when TIM said that, "Cerberus is Humanity" and the bit about using the Collector/Protean/Reaver tech for human dominance, she realised that TIM's vision for Cerberus is that of a Human equivalent of the KKK or some Neo-**** fascist sh!t and given her neutral, at least, views of aliens. That would not sit well with her.
