I've posted this in the survival thread, but i'll post it here too for reference. This make-up resulted in everyone's survival. Note that i had all upgrades, loyalties.

Team Leader 1: Miranda

Tech Spec: Legion

Team Leader 2: Miranda

Biotic Spec: Jack

Crew Escort: Tali

I don't remember who was in my party for the final battle, but i believe Mordin was one of them. Pretty sure it doesnt matter at that point anyway.

All loyalties, majority of upgrades.

Sent Tali in tubes (obvious master tech, though about Legion too), Miranda first team (leadership), Legion and Jack with me.

Samara for biotic shield, Garrus led second fire team (was more of a guerilla decoy mission), Legion and Jack with me.

Zaeed back with survivors. (looked most able at single handedly defending survivors)

Legion and Jack to final fight.

(Legion and Jack because Legion was a synthetic and Jack was my LI, seeing how being with me should have been considered the most dangerous, it felt like the right thing)

None died.

Did everything right, had all the upgrades, and he still died.

The only reason I can think of why he did is because I took too long on the Reaper fight. My first game he survived and I stopped him from shooting. Second game he died and I let him shoot the guy.

I don't think that factors into it. Loyalty is loyalty. Its either some horrible bug or it has something to do with the length of the reaper fight.

good theory there , in my first playtrought i had a soldier Sheppard and i beat the reaper real fast and everyone lived, on my second i was an adept so it took longer to kill it and Mordin died so maybe you are right and depending on how long the reaper fight lasts you get people to die (i did a reload to bring Mordin with me and i used a big weapon to kill the reaper because it crossed my mind that maybe it was because of the fight lenght,  the fight was shorter and no one died)

I had all of them loyal, all were upgraded to max, the whole ship was upgraded to max, I selected correct people for correct roles (you can really send anyone to escort the people, doesn't have to be a specific class) and Mordin still died. From what I've heard, he's the odd random one who still has a chance to just get smacked for no apparent reason.

Yes, but apparently Mordin can die even when people do everything right.

Pretty sure people are just mistaken about doing everything.  Many probably didn't even upgrade Mordin's Omni Tool.

He died for me too, I had full loyaltys and Upgrades Miranda Fire team leader 1 Jacob Distraction team Garrus took the crew back, Legion as the tech spec and Samara as the Biotic spec.

Only 2 things that i figure could have affected it are, that i let him shoot the scientist even though i played Paragon or that i somehow missed one conversation with him. My wife got his singing conversation and for some r eason he wouldnt do it for me :(

Edit: I DID EVERYTHING EXCEPT THAT ONE CONVERSATION I COULDNT GET! Enough of people saying "well obviously you didnt upgrade his omni tool" lol, its like one of the very first things they let you upgrade, would be like not upgrading the ships armor

I am not a big fan of shooters (ME is the only one I will play) and I am not particularly good at them. The way I configured the team was to make things easy for me. For my style Tali's combat drone is very effective at keeping enemies occupied (i.e. shooting the drone instead of shooting me). Plus with all the interviews and pre-game media releases, I learned that there was a chance of squad treachery. Tali to be honest was the one I trusted the most, so I kept her at my side throughout the final mission. I did not romance her yet, its a work in progress on my current playthrough.

One more thing, in reference to the mewiki post. Tali/Legion for the tech role does not garantee survival. I have heard of people having them die when assigned that role. From my personal experience, the Tech role survival has far more to do with who leads the first fire team.

Another Factor is how long you take to open the gates, that can kill the Tech Specialist at the door, even if you open all the doors. In the mission you'll see either " Gate X of 8 Open" or "Specialist in Danger" , It might have something to do with how much heath the Specialist has left, when they attempt to close the door.

I've replayed the final mission for the 7th time now, switching team leaders around between the three I mentioned earlier. I even put Legion back on Tech duty, even though I already got him killed twice (bad Team2 leader choices the first two times). On my last run, I also tried sitting around behind cover and just using Biotic attacks to toss any Collectors off the platforms, while keeping the Reaper mostly intact. I finally got bored after about ten minutes and finished it off. I had Samara and Miranda in my squad. Veteran difficulty.

Everyone lived, including Mordin. /shrug

Re: Valves - I don't think these are a factor. I was still pretty slow at getting to them on my third and fourth attempts because the Harbinger kept taking control of the Collectors one after another, and I didn't have two Biotics with me for CC. Nonetheless, my Techie finally survived at the door. I think it really depends on the second party leader, as this will determine how quickly the mobs on the other side are taken down by covering fire so that the stray rocket never makes it through.

Mordin is buggy.

First playthrough, had everyone at max loyalty, Tali in vents, Garrus and Miranda leading, Grunt bringing back crew, Mordin lived

Second playthough, EXACT SAME SET UP, all loyalties done, etc etc, and he died for no apparent reason.

@ Default137 : That's really strange o_O

I still can't figure this thing out, and I'm tired of replaying the suicide mission to find the cause. I'm gonna go wrap up my playthrough with my other saved class (infiltrator) and see how that works out.

First playthrough:

Legion in the Vents
Miranda as Team Leader
Samara as Biotic Protector
Garrus as Second Team Leader
Grunt as Crew escort.

Took Tali and Legion with me, to kill the Reaper.
Everyone was Loyal.
Everyone had their special, character specific upgrade.
Mordin died at the door.

Reloaded. Sent him back with the crew. He lived.
Reloaded again, recently. Left him at the door. He lived this time.

Mordin is buggy, or there is indeed a corollation between the time it takes to kill the Reaper and team survival.  Second and third plays, I killed the thing in a much quicker time.
