There was an excellent thread posted earlier in the main discussion forum - felt like with this board open it would be fun to get some Soldier discussion going.

That being said, what have you folks been running for a build? What's your bonus talent and why?

Currently I'm running:
Heightened Adrenaline Rush [4]
Concussive Shot [2]
Disruptor Ammo [2]
Inferno Ammo [4]
Cryo Ammo [1]
Commando [4]
Improved Geth Shield Boost [4]

I am planning to change this up based on discussion, but so far this has been carrying me through Hardcore just fine and GSB in particular gives you extra flexibility. Admittedly, my use of Adrenaline Rush still needs work as I should be using it alot more which would probably make my need of GSB lessen. I'm also pondering dropping to Shock Trooper since the weapon damage difference is relatively slight and easily made up by some of the armor choices.

So what are you folks running with/enjoying for your Soldiers?

I liked Pull or Push for my soldier, a nice biotic crowd control ability . . . .

I used the same for mine playthrough on insanity. Inferno was a life saver on the las mission against the collectors. I know what you mean about Improved Geth Shield Boost. It saved me when ever i got flanked; gave me just enough time to swithc to a different weapon or to kill the threat.

Do you find yourself using Cryo alot? I LIKE Cryo [my fave overall in ME1] but I just didn't find it to be as helpful this time since it required them to be in health before it could freeze. The squad Cryo does seem a bit tempting to try though.

Heightened Rush 4

Heavy Concussive 4

Heavy Disruptor 4

Incendiary 1

Cryo 0

Shock Trooper 4

Tungsten Ammo 4

I love my solider, but I'll probably put less into Concussive(putting it into Incendiary) and change to a defensive ability for my Insanity run

Also, Barrier and Fortification are the exact same thing. Geth Shield Boost is similar; improved Geth Shield Boost gives you extra weapon damage.

This is the build another soldier posted and I gotta admit I really want to try this :) I know I'll probably die a bit more as I adjust to the lack of GSB panic key, but I just need to make more heavy use of my Adrenaline Rush. And I think I am going to swap to Shock Trooper. I always went Shock Trooper in ME1 and I guess my "OMG DPS" mindset made me go for Commando this time due to the, what, 6% weapon damage difference?

Current
Heightened Adrenaline rush 4
Heavy concussive shot 4
Heavy Disruptor Ammo 4
incendiary Ammo 1
Cryo Ammo 0
Shock Trooper 4
Tungsten Ammo 4

or my old build was

Heightened Adrenaline rush 4
Concussive shot 1
Heavy Disruptor Ammo 4
Inferno Ammo 4
Cryo Ammo 0
Shock Trooper 4
Improved Geth Shield Boost 4

Weapon Load out is
Pistol-Handcannon
Shotgun-Avenger
Assualt rifle-Revanant
Sniper-Viper
Heavy weapon-Cain

Armor
Head- Recon Hood
Body- Shield Harness
Shoulders- Strength pads
Gauntlets- Stabalizer gauntlets
Legs- medigel webbing

Team load out
1. Miranda(warp,slam spec), Jack(Shockwave spec), Samara
2. Garrus/Legion(sniper) or Moridan (Cryo spec)

I use Disrupter ammo on my sniper rifle and either kill/short out/over heat enemies and their weapons before bringing the pain with the Revanant LMG. If things get to heated I use HAR+ m90 CAIN and watch the show.

Honestly, I don't use Concussive that much... as Rush is much more useful for getting away from enemies. Shock Trooper also makes Rush last longer, which is a big help sometimes.

Incendiary basically does the job of AP ammo I think, hurts armor and health with the added bonus of disabling Health Regen. So I'm probably going to roll with a defensive abilities for "oh crap" Insanity moments.

Heightened Rush 4

Concussive 0*

Heavy Disruptor 4

Inferno 4

Cryo 0*

Shock Trooper 4

Improved Geth Shield Boost 4

*= my finaly point will either go into Concussive or Cyro, probably Concussive... "just in case"

Adrenaline Rush 2
Concussive Blast
Disruptor Ammo 2
Incendiary Ammo 2
Squad Cryo Ammo
Commando
Heavy Geth Shield Boost

Party: Tali + Samara

Good mix of offence, defence and crowd control. Has worked well so far.

Well, Concussive is worth having at least a point or two in because, like the biotics, you can curve it around some obstacles and it provides a valuable CC option. We have no other CC skill w/o taking a bonus skill - and even a point in Concussive lets you stagger one target in a pinch. I agree that Inferno/AP may be a bit interchangeable, but the differences in damage are noticeable.

I know when I tried AP at rank 3, it was demolishing Scion armor way faster then my Inferno rounds were. The one reason Inferno is so hard to give up is the ridiculous amount of "on fire - wave your arms around while I gun you down" procs it puts on the enemies once they're in health xD

Ahh, I'm so glad they gave us a respec option - it makes experimentation possible!

I consider Squad Cryo Ammo to be crowd control :P

Yeah that's why I'm tempted to try that xD I imagine a cross fire of 3 cryo'd up people can cause alot of havoc.

My main worry for my Insanity run are the Scions, so maybe it would be wise to keep AP Ammo... Now I'm conflicted...

Taking a defensive ability just seemed like the more prudent idea, survive longer... less dying and reloading.

This is the same logic I've been using but Kao's pointed out that technically Adrenaline Rush is a majorly good defensive ability and w/o having to wait on the longer CD of GSB you could pop an AR to get to cover and then start your offensive attack plans.

The one thing I do love about GSB is being able to barrel down a tunnel, take some fire and pop the GSB up with the damage boost and just keep advancing w/o needing to duck into cover.

you can alway use HAR as a deffensive ability and remember COVER and use your team as distractions this is exactly why i use legion to replace garrus on my team late game give him explosive drone and the widow and enemies forget about you and he hits like a cracked out superman. and Samara, Jack, and Miranda have some really good CC biotics.

The only bonus abilities worth getting as a soldier are:

Armor Piercing Ammo

Barrier

Geth Shield

Everything else is forgettable and pointless really.

Since we're talking about abilities, what about the bonus weapon?

Widow or Reverent? Since it seems the Krogan Shotgun would probably be suicide if you got close enough to use it.

I'm leaning towards the Reverent, since the only thing I dislike about the Widow is that it seems one Rush = one Widow shot

Any squaddie with a drone is great for distraction - I tend to use Tali, though I've found that while it lacks biotic punch, running with Sniper Legion + Tali + my soldier = Ridiculous Pwnage!

@ Mal - while the Widow is VERY tempting, I just can't ever give up the Revenant. It's just TOO good xD If I want the Widow for fun, I'll play an Infiltrator. The Viper does well enough for my Soldier when I need snipe power.

Oh and the reason why I use the strength pads aside from them looking SWEET they also stack some of the shepard research projects and help with Husks if they get to close to you.

Well the first game I really didnt care about biotics at all in this game to me at least they were greatly improved and Miranda Slam and shockwave are just plain awesome. But samara has a good balance with weapon and decent biotic abilities to make up for the lack of those two powers. Really wish they had given her The biotic punch she uses on Morinth rather then reave.

Yeah the strength pads look great :) Armor wise I generally use the Sentry Visor [looks awesome, though the Recon Hood stats are ludicrously awesome] and run with shield boosting armor pieces. I go for the extra ammo gauntlets though. I might try the Capacitor chestplate to see if the shield recharge is worth it or not.
