The Strength of the Viper is its Clipsize of 12 and 3-4 times the Ammo then Mantis or Widow.

Widow makes insane damage, but for every Shot you make you have to add at least the 1,5 Seconds Reload.

While in this 1,5 Seconds you can unload (havent checked it) at least 6 Shots with the Viper. So for 2 Shots (incl. Reload) with the Viper you would have 12 Shots with the Viper.

Now also add the Extra Ammo you have and you can see he practical Damage Difference.

... but thats not my last Word on it. First when i tried the Widow with a new Char ;)

Heightened Adrenaline Rush [4]

I use this for sniping mainly. Sometimes I use it with a shotgun and melee because slow mo point blank shotties and rifle butts to the head are fun to watch.

Concussive Shot [1] This does everything I need it for at just 1 point. It kills insanity level husks in one shot too. This is great on the IFF mission. I use this to knockback charging opponents but sometimes as additional damage to save ammo.

Disruptor Ammo [4] Kicks synthetic ass and awesome vs shields. Sniper and Pistol are on this always.

Inferno Ammo [4] Kicks ass against soft targets. When they burn they stop and put out the flame. Its like a 1 second cc. Just enough time to reapply it. The Shotgun has this on always.

Commando [4] This is a character buff.

Barrier [4] This is for protection, running away, the oh **** button, or I'm charging with my shotgun skill. I've gone toe to toe with bosses in melee with this on insanity.

Anyways I think most people(not for sure) who use the same setup as me and crackseed use the viper as a back up or preemptive strike weapon.

Like I've said before I kill what I can with the viper when possible I use it more for dropping shields and overloading weapons at range, same reason why I use the predator close up when im taking heavy fire. The extra ammo on both those guns and larger clip sizes means im able to kill/overload/shield drop more people then possible with other guns from those lines. I would also like to stress I only use the Predator in EXTREME situations that require me to pop out of cover, aim, and fire far faster then would be possible or safe with my Viper.

I think the Vindicator would be a much more enjoyable weapon for the main character use if it had a bit more ammo. It just does not hold up in some of the more drawn out fire fights. It's got great damage, amazing accuracy and control, but holy crap it just runs out of thermals too fast. It's awesome on party members, but for Shepherd it's just too slighted on ammo capacity. Hopefully they'll give it a bit more clip size and that should give it more mid/end-game use.

I know I loved the Vind until the collector ship and I got the Rev. Reminded me of my Spectre Master gear X assualt rifle with Heat sink Scram rail and Sledgehammer/inferno rounds from ME1

I must be missing something, because Heightened Rush gave no damage bonus (I tested in-game and saw no difference to damage done). Also, when evolving the power, the 140% damage bonus does not list, only the 70% slow down.

If that is so, then I don't see why anyone would use it. 70% is only needed if you have real troubles aiming, and the -50% damage taken from hardened pretty much ensures you don't die, which is handy when you have to run by some guys, or a YMIR.

Heightened adrenaline rush: yes, there is a damage bonus
Concussive blast: to knock husks and little ****s like that around
Heavy disruptor ammo: good against YMIR mechs
Commando: I love my damage. With Widow it helps me get tons of one hit kills, even on insanity
Heavy warp ammo: Good all purpose ammo with no damage delay like inferno, and good against collector barriers on insanity

This is an insanity build by the way. It was what I followed after Horizon, and here is what I did before Horizon:

Hardened adrenaline rush
Heavy disruptor ammo
Heavy inferno ammo
Shock trooper
Geth shield boost

heightened also allows you to dodge shots better if your paying attention just throwing that out there. and it has been confirmed by a dev that heightened grants a 140% damage boost.

Technically Heightened's damage bonus also lies in the fact that you are doing even more damage in the time it's running vs Hardened, as well as cutting down the amount of incoming fire to you.

Edit: Lewl Kao also beat me to the punch.

WUT? +40% Damage???

Damn than i will change this for my Soldier...

The 50% DR is nice (especially when having No Cover Situations), but

70% Slow AND Damage seem to be more efficient.. especially while using the Revenant+AR-Rounds in Close Combat (on Insane damn Husks wont even then die fast enough)

Oh btw i finished the Suicide Mission!

Survivors:

-Morinth (tried the Sex-Scene, lol!)

-Miranda(LI, everyone died around her *g)

-Zaeed(damn hes a tough Guy...)

Im only curious, how you can loose all Partners and maybe even die yourself XD

Don't get any upgrades, don't do loyalty missions, etc. You'll lose 3 people just in the ship fight alone, then pick bad specialists and you'll lose more. You pretty much beat the end with only your 2 squaddies and IIRC they will die from the rock fall. Then no one to pull you up when you jump to the ship and voila, DED.

Yeah ok. But i think this would have been too hard, playing on Insane without Upgrades ^^

But its strange, that Shepard dies alone, because with the Team he covered the others and so he came a little too late to the Ship... when he is alone there should have been no delay for him  -_-

But Kudos to Zaeed! Lol that was so funny, when Shepard goes up and starts to talk to the Group, who will stay back and hold of the Collectors  Shepards holds his heroic Speech and the only one standing there is Zaeed

And later on you see Zaeed as the Last Man Standing, covering, while he says in the Mic "We are under heavy Fire!"
Hahaha! Seems like Rambo lost his Nerves ;)

My planned Insanity Build:

Adrenaline Rush [4] - Still undecided between the two final forms. I want damage output, so the second form is tempting, but I've heard that the extra time dilation means you actually get fewer shots off for the duration, which could kill the overall damage. I'd love for a Dev to give more info on this skill, but don't want to seem greedy.

Combat Mastery [4] - Again, undecided. I had some issues with my Paragon score on my current Insanity Run, so I'm going to be restarting and distributing my points differently. If I can get all the Paragon options open to me at all times while still having the Commando evolution, that will be great. Otherwise, I'll have to go with Shock Trooper.

Warp Ammo [4] - This will be the Heavy Warp Ammo. I'm a fire-and-forget sort of person, and Warp Ammo provides extra damage to 3 of the 4 'health' bars. Armor Piercing gives higher bonuses, but only to 2 bars. I prefer the extra utility of Warp Ammo.

Those are all I really want. I'll put points into Concussive Shot once I've got those three skills maxed, and I'll Evolve it into the AoE version to deal with Husks, Varren, etc., but I don't really see the need for anything else, given my play-style.

I just finished my INSANE playthrough with my soldier class. Here's my breakdown:

Inferno Ammo Level 4
Warp Ammo Level 4
Disruptor Ammo Level 4
Concussive Shot Level 4
Adrenaline Rush 1

I found that with these 3 ammo types, I could deal with most enemies fairly well. I almost always used Miranda in my squad because of here Disrupt and Warp abilities; she and I could quickly deal with and barriers or sheilds. For my second squad member, I would either choose a biotic like Samara who could deal heavey damage to large numbers of unsheilded enemies, or another Soldier class with Inferno abilities to burn through health.  My Concussive shot was also great for crowd control once sheilds or barriers were taken down. I stayed away from Adrenaline Rush and Cryo ammo; I never found a situation that I felt really required either in order to get through.

For the most part, this setup worked well for me. There were a couple spots that were extremely difficult (I must have died about 20 times on the collector ship floating platform encounter), but aside from a couple roadblocks, the playthrough went smoothly.

One final point; on levels full of Husk enemies (like the Reaper IFF or the Collector Base) I would go pure Soldier class for my squad. I gave Zieed a heavey Inferno Blast, and I gave Grunt Heavey Inferno Ammo, and both characters have Concussive Shot. This loadout made the swarms of husks relatively easy to deal with.

OK been playing around with a newish build setup the last couple of days that i think you all might like.

Heightened Adrenaline rush(switch to what ever doesnt matter) 4

Concussive shot 1

Squad Disrupter Rounds 4

Squad Inferno rounds 4

Commando 4

Tungsten rounds 4

Now the squad ammos are for your squad not you turn on the most usefull one for that particular mish and then to your Tungsten rounds for max damage(shields barriers are not going to be a problem)

weapon load out

Revanant LMG,Viper Sniper, Eviscerator Shotty, Carniflex Hand Cannon all with Tungsten ammo

Team mates

Miranda Tempest SMG, Overload 4, Warp 4, Cerberus Leader 4

Garrus Geth pulse rifle, Overload 4, Turian Renegade 4 (the others dont matter you want over load 4 and his renegade bonuses) Once shields/barriers are down Switch Him to the Mantis sniper rifle

later for me I switch Garrus out for Legion

Legion Geth pulse rifle, Explosive drone 4, Geth Assasin 4 and again when shield barriers drop switch legion to the Widow.

What I'm seeing from this setup is Extreme death to enemies it's like I'm playing normal again and things just drop. For some mishes I switch Garrus out for either Samarra or Thane Reave 4 and Warp 4. Samara alows for a bit more damage due to not needing the GPR to eat through shields because of the Tempest SMG so I have her use the Vindicator once shields drop.

Well hope you guys like it gonna do another run with it before I decide if its going to be my defualt build fro now on.

Hey Kaorunandrak,
Was wondering if you see a big difference between using Shock Trooper and Commando.  Also if you switch to squad ammo and then go to Tungsten do your teammates keep the ammo you selected?  Also what do you do for crowd control then?  Or do most things get shredded before they get a chance to rush you?  I just prefer shock trooper..same with my teammates does the damage bonuses make a large difference, I normal go for health or armor boosts, just a preference, I like to think of my squad as a tanks as supposed to a fire team, but I wouldn't mind both. how come reave gets all the love, but not with the soldier. i like having a DoT with a soldier, kindof like taking warp with a ME1 soldier. reave seems like a great ability. i usually take slam because biotics USED TO be cool so i can just use concusive shot for the CC. weapons for the killing. slow mo for the ladies.

im just torn between going revenant or widow. i really enjoyed the killing power of the widow with my infiltrator. ill prolly go revenant and see how she does.

I gave the LMG a whirl and wasn't impressed. Even with the AR accuracy upgrade, it quickly becomes inaccurate at mid-range without resorting to short bursts. And why bother bursting with the LMG when the vindicator is more accurate and does more damage per shot?

Then again, I'm a huge fan of the Widow. And the Soldier is (somewhat to my chagrin) the best sniping class in the game.

Yes the squad keeps the ammo you select even if you switch to the Tungsten.

I belive it works that way because you can freely switch weapons around so that way you wouldnt have to reapply everything when you did that.(thats just my own speculation as to why it works)

And yeah everything is dead before they can rush me and on top of that due to have 2 people for the most of the mishes with Disrupter rounds they are now the ones keeping everyone overloaded and due to their A.D.D they randomly shoot everyone keeping them from fireing its actually quite humorus to see >;p

And no I'm not seeing a HUGE difference between the two (commando/shock trooper)in anything but paragon/renegade. Just trying to layer as much damage as possible to the team to see how it works. So far like I said its fun.

As far as the REV goes meh I love the gun and like I've said before I'm surgical with that gun doesnt matter if im a foot away or if im a mile away. Ive heard all the arguments for and against the REv and I sit strongly and proudly in the camp for it.

I belive it really is a choice of prefferance though and of patience. If you spend enough time with the gun even with out the acc mod you wont need to burst the gun at all to kill things(even though it is the most ammo efficient and less difficult way to use the gun) but I am not going to get into another drawn out disscusion/arguement/flame war over it and the Widow.

Btw that build is what im using on my current and previous insane runs.

And I always took electronics on my ME1 soldier i liked getting a shield boost/mako boost/and shield destroyer power all in one lol.Never used it really outside of its passive abilities anyways i killed to easily with my ME1 soldier.

im playing a soldier on insanity right now and im one shotting enemies with the crappy starter sniper rifle. i love the widow on my infiltrator so i was thinking revenant. i got the vindicator ASAP and its pretty awesome. between that and the awesomeness im getting out of the starter sniper on insanity, with that 3 shot cerberus shotty, im actually blowing crap away. its pretty nuts how easy it is compared to a NG+ level 30 sentinel. im still stuck on the collector ship with that idiot.

I love the Rev too, not too bad with it from distance without the upgrades, but man the Hahne-Kedar mission where you have to take out the robot factory, I can't take down the robots fast enough.  The mechs infinitely respawn and I'm not damaging them quick enough to progress through the factory.  I'm doing the mission before horizon so I don't have too many upgrades, but I think I have to retrain my Shepard for my squad to be more effective.

The key skills are heightened adrenaline surge and commando/shocktrooper (it really doesn't matter which you pick.) Concussion shot isn't worth putting any points into. You should be adren surging instead.

The widowmaker is unnecessary for soldier. Against a vast majority of targets the mantis will do the same job. The mantis does around 260, the widowmaker does around 360, but under heightened adrenaline surge you gain a 140% damage bonus. Then with the headshot bonuses most things will die from a single headshot from the mantis. That extra damage from the widowmaker ends up overkill in many situations.

The widowmaker is a much bigger deal for infiltrators who don't get the massive damage boost soldiers get from adrenaline surge.

The eviscerator is the shotgun to use on soldier. Its greater effective range and high damage make it incredibly potent under adrenaline surge. Its great for somewhat close quarters, particularly for taking out something that is approaching your cover.

I'm still trying to figure out what the best option for the bonus skill is. As soldier you should be using adren surge extremely frequently. Thus any active skill will be rarely used. GSB is a good choice for the 15% damage bonus, you would activate it before the fight and just ride the damage bonus as long as it lasts. Tungsten or Warp ammo are very powerful and free up points to pick up squad cryo ammo. Reave is ok, but very niche.

My build on my current playrun is similar. Reseaoned the same way. Soldies are supposed to shoot stuff up and use  "bullit time". Therefore  I chose warp ammo. Fire ammo is also good but warp disrupts everything except shields, which I use disrupter ammo for.
I had the Widow on the first run and while it's totally awesome damagewise, Mantis isn't that far behind. I'm investing in the assault rifle this run, seems the right thing to do for a soldier.

I love the soldies class. Nothing spells cool then having a shotgun for backup (you'll be using the assault rifle and sniper rifle the most anyway). Max Payne gaming is also fun (though it isn't half as stylish). And Biotics can be complimented with squad members. But the varierty of weaponry can't.

Only downside is the slow weapon switching. Ammo swapping requires paying attention. Can't have everything I guess.
