biotic charge a scion!

If it's only 1 Scion then yes.  2 Scions can present a problem unless their Shockwaves are in sync.  2 Scions, 1 Collector General, 4 Collectors, and a swarm of Husks...  probably not.

Say, Christina, you mentioned that you use Shockwave all the time as Vanguard on Insanity.

To what purpose? It barely does anything to shielded targets, so I imagine you try to clear out enemy groups' defenses before charging in? Or is there some trick to it outside of the obvious?

Yes

If you come out of an area charge then perform shockwave its very effective against med - light targets. (sometimes even heavies)

Sovereign is right. Shockwave and Charge together is pretty cool, especially if you took the area effect evolve for Shockwave. I can clear a whole area of medium targets after charging in at a heavy target. Vanguard is still the best class in the game, but the shotgun needs some work i hardly ever feel the need to use it even when i am charging around the level like an asari krogan. heavy pistol is just far better, especially if you can get headshots which are not difficult.

Can you cancel reload on any weapon with any class or just the shotgun/vanguard?

You can do it with any class and any weapon. In addition to melee, any power works to cancel out of a reload.  For example, on my adept I often use pull or warp to cancel out of a reload.

Ah. Definitely going to have to use this on my infiltrator's Widow reload and chuck out an incinerate. It would be helpful on my adept but I only use the M-3 pistol.

Makes me wonder where my street fighter IV chun li controller is.

So guys what is your preferred weapon of choice?

And I'm guessing for armor, anything with +% on health is the way to go, since you'll be seeing the red screen very often.

on Insanity? heh, I do not think so.
First of all, Area Charge sucks on Insanity, it does nothing. Shockwave merely stuns them for like 0.5 second and is not worth the cooldown.

I use Shockwave to get enemies out of cover.  Regardless of shields/armor/barrier, they stagger long enough for me or my Squad to target them.
@Seblun:
I use the +10% headshot damage headgear, +25% melee shoulderpads, +ammo arms and whatever looks cool for everything else.  I'm going back and forth whether the Capacitor plates make a noticeable difference.

edit: and the Claymore all the way.

For anyone who hasn't played a vanguard, you will die if you charge and there's more targets (unlike what the video let on). This isn't DAO, the random grunts can kill you quite easily.

Thats false. You will only die if your build is poor. I truely believe sinosleep's secret to his low to mid level success is his reliance on squad ammo. He doesn't waste any points leveling up his own ammo in the beginning. Reducing the cooldown on Charge and increasing Charge's shield regeneration are paramount to survival.

Here's a fraps of me vs. Geth on insanity. You'll see me diving straight into the enemies and not take a single point of health damage. I also used one of the worst ammo types against synthetics.
Whereas sinosleep's video shows low level play, this video shows mid level:

Nice video.  I learned something new today (which should have been obvious to me before, but whatever), since you are already a Biotic, using Barrier as extra defense should work well since you get bonuses for it from your class skill and any Biotic upgrades you've bought/researched.  I also like how you're using the Assault shotty instead of the Claymore.  I love me some Claymore (and clearly you do too, since I don't see a Sniper Rifle or AR on your back), but I think it should be noted that none of them are fundamentally better or worse than the others, just feel different.  It's like the Revenant vs. Vindicator posts...  just whatever you like more is better for you.

edit: incorrect shotgun name fixed.

armour wise, early on anything with +shields is the way forward, with melee shoulders (because thers no shield shoulders), shields>health because the charge boosts shields, including any passive buffs on your shields. the ammo gauntlets work aswel, at least until you get the shotty ammo ugrade. once you're in mid to end game, shields and survivability should be enough that you're ok during the charge cd, so boosting shotgun damage is key, switch to using any +wep dmg armour, keep the melee shoulders and any shield gear that you cant replace with dmg gear. if the capacitor plate is the one that reduces shield cd by 10%, avoid that, theres no way that shields will recover before charge is off cd, so theres no point to it. bonus ability/wep wise, i went for area reave, for ranged aoe anti armour, and picked up AR spec, giving me firepower against armoured targets from range. auto shotty is awesome combined with inferno ammo, an aoe flinch around your target every other second on organics is very powerful, i'm pretty sure they flinch even with armour when the aoe goes off.

I didn't even get to the Collector Ship yet. I would've picked up the Claymore, but I'm not gonna lie... I still would've used the Scimitar while I frapsed. Mouse control is baaaaad when you have horrible framerates.

Just finished uploading the 2nd part of the Geth video. You'll see how forgiving the Scimitar is since I missed a bunch of times with it:

Thanks for the heads up. It doesn't seem too useful for a charging Vanguard, though. I like how the current shotguns rip through barriers/shields while incendiary ammo allow it to melt through armor.

I get the feeling it was made primarily for other classes so that they'd have a reason to pick up shotgun training.

Rumination888 your Geth vid was brilliant. Started using more melee. Alternating between melee and shot. Can't believe how much difference it makes. Now I can charge those pesky geth hubs without fear of dying, without any help from the squad :) Tho it made me like the Scimitar even more, and here I was trying to make the transition to claymore hehe

So, rumination, do you use Shockwave/Pull at all? Or do you focus entirely on Charge and shoot/smash?

I was originally in the 'Vanguards suck' crowd. Count me as swayed - Vanguards are quite good.

Shockwave/Pull is completely and utterly worthless on Hardcore/Insanity. Wasting points in them only serve to make your Vanguard weaker. It might be part of the reason why theres so many "Vanguards suck!" posts.

im debating if I should import my ME2 character(lvl26) into an Insanity game, or just new game insanity

If is start a new game, without importing, do I still get the extra 25% exp

Unfortunate. Looks like Shockwave got the shortbus on Insanity for both classes. At least Pull is distinctly usable for an Adept.

Area Charge really shines on Veteran and below.  That said, if you are a great shot and fast as hell, you could make it work for you on Hardcore+ since it will at least stagger everyone around you.  Otherwise, I'd stick Heavy Charge for the Slow-mo.
