I have a quick question about facial tattoos and the world of this game?  Is there some backstory to Fereldan and a love of facial tattoos?  All races and sex have the option to have them.  Yet the only fluff I have seen on them is that Dwarf Castless get them to show they are the castless.  So is it common for someone to tattoo their face?  Will we run into alot of random NPC with tattooed faces?  Just wondering since the Creat a Character thing came out.

I think for the Dalish, they are supposed to symbolise the god they're dedicated too, as well. We didn't get any details, however.

No lore for human or city elf afaik.

Dalish Elves use facial tattoos to show allegiance to one of their gods. For humans, I think the deal with facial tattoos is if you have them it usually means your can trace your family back to an old tribe or something like that.

Dalish: Tattoos symbolize there gods.

Dwarf Commoner : it isn't a tattoo, it's a brand that they put on casteless at birth, or at demotion.

Everyone else it's purely cosmectic

In game: No one is forced to have or not to have a tattoo.

I would really like some sort of description on which of the tattoos mean what... I don't want my Dalish elf to be some pansy worshiper of the goddess of sewing (god of vengeance or the trickster would be cooler), and I don't want my elf mage inadvertantly praising the Divine in Orlais with his bird-tattoo-thing.

I do not believe the tattoos actually have meaning in the game. There's no way to tell which ones mean what in the game client and the Devs haven't said anything about it except that the game was not able to have that sort of thing in it for the Dalish, and I don't think there's a 'Maker' tattoo, if it's not Dalish, or Dwarven, it's just cosmetic, IIRC.

If the Dalish tattoos actually have some meaning too them, I wonder if I should be looking into it in order to more actually portray my character's personality. Currently I just have the one I thought looks best (and because elves can have facial hair ... I would have liked a goatee or soul patch)
