Way too over-simplified, but true there are similarities between all of BioWare's stories...and everyone else's.

I'm more worried that ME3 could have the same storyline. You would definiately want an army to stop all those reapers...

Oh god, the OP hurts my head with his willful stupidity. Aside from the post itself, its in the wrong forum. Go take the nerd rage elsewhere.

Not exactly the same. But there are some similarities.

Here's a better one: KotOR 1 and 2's plots are identical.

The funny thing about writing a story is, whatever you are doing, somebody probably did it already.

In human history there have only been 3 original ideas; Fire, Rock, and Stick. Everything else is a combination or variation of those 3 ideas.

Where does religion fit into that? And before anyone jumps on me for bringing religion into this, regardless of whether or not there is some higher divinity in the Universe, I'm pretty sure that we're the first species on Earth to come up with the idea of there being some greater power behind everything.

I'll explain it to you.
Fire; is magic given by god.
Rock; is weapon used to convince the nonbelievers.
Stick; is what I beat you with for bringing religion into this otherwise high minded discussion.

Religion was made by a ****** who wanted to control everyone.

Religion is the ritualistic use of Rocks and Sticks in worship of Fire.

Personaly i think ME1 is more like DA:O but thats just me, like in both you join an elite group to stop somthing that could wipe out everyone. but they are both diffrent too so i dont mind if they are alike sometimes

If that's the biggest similarity between ME1 and DA: O, then they're also similar to pretty much every other game ever made.

The same but.. Different. Like AC and DC.

and in mass effect 3, we find out that:
The reapers were formerly elves who tried to obtain godhood and was punished to become soulless machines.
Shepard is actually the former leader of the reapers who lost his memory.
Captain Anderson set shepard up to be a spectre so he could exploit him to do his bidding.

some of Bioware game do share similarity yes, but doesn't all RPG the same, I mean there are always something that out to get the world and whom ever living in it, always allies gathering ect ect.
I enjoy them nevertheless, because execution differ from game to game, the conclusion of the story as a whole always surprise me.
(sorry for my grammar, I'm from Japan...)

Ok so we need to write a story with nobody to help and no friends to take along... the PC fights his way into the castle/den/lair etc. kills the bad guy; the end... its a little short and... boring. Granted similarities exist in these stories but there are similarities here which you'll find throughout literature and story telling all through history. There are only so many conceivable plots in the world (limited by human thinking and culture etc) its the story following the plot (plot gives structure; story is the colour and texture) and characters involved which makes games like DA:O and ME interesting to play I find.

All stories can be boiled down to one sentence. "...and then something terrible happened."
#25
Posté 08 février 2010 - 01:39
There is only one story in the world, it is called the monomyth. Every story ever told is an alteration of the monomyth, so some stories are going to be similar.
