Well it isn't fun. It's just that simple. I played up to Tali and just told the Adept to screw herself. Now I'm going to play a Sentinel or an Engineer. Jeez guys don't nerf it so hard next time.
The Adept isn't fun.

What difficulty? I played through mine on normal and had a blast. By level 10 I was unstoppable.

The problem with Adept is the inability to train your powers becuase of the shared cooldown, otherwise it would be a bloody blast and a little op on the lower difficulty settings.

I played on Veteran for my 1st playthrough. Anyway, yeah they really killed the Adept in ME2.
In ME1 you had like, a dozen powers, so you truly felt like a Jedi (cant help it lol) I wish the combat was more like the Cinematics, tossing biotic throws and shockwaves, while having a glowing barrier. One can only dream.

Huh? My first run was normal, with an adept. Tons of fun. The ability to ignore cover, toss enemies around like ragdolls and so on. The only real weakness is the lack of shield burning ability, but just take someone with it on your squad, on normal they survive well.
Biotics have real problems on hardcore and insanity, but on normal or even veteran, at least for me, still a ton of fun. (And singularity is king for dealing with husks and abominations.)

I'm playing through on Insanity and imported my ME1 character. I'm playing as an adept and I must say, it's way easier than a vanguard. I'm really liking it.

Adept is great fun up to veteran. Past that it's a pain and your only useful skill is warp.

I think they really did switch up the classes in ME2. In ME1 everyone loves adepts/vanguards because they can just clean house. In ME2, not so much. Doesn't help that the charge ability is pretty much another word for kamikaze. Whereas classes like the infiltrator can destroy enemies from a distance with their sniper rifle, and if they do get in trouble they can tactical cloak their way to safety.

Honestly I loved playing the adept, first one I have done every side quest with just because I enjoyed blowing **** up with my biotics (or what ever the hell I have)
I shoot a heavy warp over the barricade and that Vorcha is like AW SNAP, actually he's not like that at all because he's dead. Also the only class I'v bothered to get to 30 so far.

I really enjoyed the Adept. Admittedly, you use warp far more than any other power, but I had fun

I did my second (or was it third?) run as an Adept on Veteran. No problems at all. With Tali's unlock power you are set for anything. Having Thane and Miranda in the squad was devastating against everyone. Even Collector Generals, throw Singularity and then all three of you toss a Warp Explosion and he's dead. Pull Field and Wide Singularity insta-kill most Husks (drop a Singularity where the Husks spawn and forget about them for a while). Pull has a very fast recharge which is great for taking out large groups of unshielded/no armor enemies fast.
Don't forget that Singularity does hold armored enemies with the exception of Scions, Praetorians, Geth Primes, YMIR mechs, and the Colossus Geth. Oh, and flying drones.

My second playthrough was an Adept and I have to say I was a bit taken back at first. Having loved the Adept in Mass Effect 1 there was just a huge change to play him in Mass Effect 2. All the abilities was reduced to just a few and none made you feel like you was a powerful adept anymore.
Yeah, what they have done is balance all classes to be of equal worth, which I feel was rather sad. I liked the fact that an adept was so powerful, I mean, you would be with abilities like that.
After playing more I still enjoyed the new adept, especially how you can curve and trick with your abilities. But I still do like the Mass Effect 1 better, in the end.

my first playthrough was an adept on insanity. i thought it was challenging, and fun. you only used warp a lot if you couldn't figure out how awesome heavy singularity is. the possible combinations are what really makes adept awesome. as a soldier or any of the other classes, it feels like you are the star and your team is just there to make you look better. as an adept, you rely on the proper coordination of certain teammates to kill different enemies.

Adept is easily the most challenging class on the higher diffucultys and the best on the lower. **** I'm not even doing side missions its that hard. And its a good excuse to see what its like when everyone dies.

My second playthrough is as an adept. Just finishing her up now in fact. I'm playing on hardcore and honestly I thought it was easier playing through with an adept than as a vanguard (first playthrough on hardcore.) I use Barrier as my specialty skill - really life-saving at times - and maxed out Warp. It does wonders to barriers and armor.

they are the end all be all like tey were in the first ME, they require tactics and need someone to back there abilities up, with more biotics.
quite honestly after getting tali (yeah that is a pain for adepts) most eniemis are organic and use armor and barriers which really are not the problem.
also the cooldown gets better as you leval your passive class skill up plus the biotic cooldown upgrade.

Energy Drain is an Adept's best friend!

You want to drop Adept for Engineer? Lol, to each their own I guess. I found Adept to be much more fun than Engineer personally.

I loved the Adept. Adept + Assault Rifle = Godly. I imagine this combo being beastly even on Insanity. Warp + Pull + Throw brought me tons of joy.

im playing an infiltrator with slam, and i think im doing the same thing id be doing if i was an adept, but im just doing it with slam. universal cooldowns are bad for the adept.

havent tried adept on normal, my first run was with a sent on HC and found that dam funcurrently compleating a second run with an adept on insanity.
what i have noticed is that unlike sent and i presume most other classes, adept relies heavily on the other party members you bring with you. No biotic powers are going to work on a target that has shields so you need to make sure you bring a team member with overload and assign it to your quick bar, personally i bring miranda and i use AOE energy drain as my bonus talent. once all the shields are taken care of warp and and stay behind cover.
Also the avalanche heavy weapon is a life save for the times you get zerged by krogan, husks and my personal nightmare the dog lie thingms

Adept is a lot of fun in my opinion. The skills are different enough to find one for most of the situations. And it's fun to use, actually not a no-brainer like the soldier, but doesn't mean critical planning like the old Rainbow six series.
And encountering Harbinger with three Heavy Warps in stock... well, he won't be much of a killer.

The Adept could very easily be made fun, if your abilities worked against armor or if the cooldown wasn't global (at least not for the full cooldown).
I mean really, what is it about armor that prevents me from flinging you into the air? I can understand a mass effect shield preventing a mass effect singularity, but armor doesn't to crap against gravity.
