What a game that could have been, I would love to play that version of the game. Like people mentioned, the worst part of being adept is just the defense system really screws with most biotic powers. I guess they balanced that out with SMG, but I rather being limited to a pistol if i can use biotic power like ME1.

And not only the player who choose the adept is limited by this. Also all squadmates with crowd control powers like jacob, samara and subject zero. Destroys 3 heavy mechs in cutscenes, but couldnt even lift one until his "defenses" are destroyed.

i hate when people bring up cutscenes as gameplay problems. theres going to be alot of inconsistencies outside of the combat your shepard does. bioware killed shepard in between games for christ sakes but nobody really seems to complain about that not being involved with shepard.

enemy defenses on higher levels sucks. heres some advice for xboxers who cant mod.....just play veteran and dont upgrade your weapons of health. its still pretty easy, but it allows biotics to actually become effective and more important that anything else, it makes playing an adept FUN. which is something i would have thought the developers would have been going for with biotics......

ME2 on the xbox can be modded... and it is easy to play on harder difficulties on the xbox.

All you need is a usb thumb drive that is larger than 1 gig.

Man, Soldier with Reave owns everyone. Engineer with Reave could own everyone. Kelly with Reave could own everyone.

honestly any class that takes slam is almost an equal to the adept in terms of biotics.

is that statement wrong?

I know that everyone and their mother loves to make Vanguards that seem only to charge charge charge on Insanity.  I have to say... my vanguard (which I rarely charge with) is a pure biotic powerhouse.

lvl 1 incendiary ammo
lvl 0 cryo ammo
lvl 4 Heavy Charge
lvl 4 Heavy Shockwave
lvl 4 Pull Field
lvl 4 Champion
lvl 4 Area Reave
Bonus Weapon: Assault Rifle
Weapons Loadout: Vindicator, Scimitar, Tempest, Hand Cannon (heavy weapon modded out)

For ammo powers I just bring Grunt, Zaeed, Garrus or Jack (they all have squad ammo versions of their ammo powers).

Yes... especially on Collector platforms.  Samara with area reave and Shepard with area reave gets rid of the barriers of collector drones and then shockwave send them over the edge.

I keep reading Adepts are terrible, but all you have to do is add Energy Drain(respec to Warp ammo on collector missions) and pay attention to the battlefield and you can really rock with an Adept. Very few classes can keep up with a well built team and well played Adept. There are so many ways to kill with an Adept, that I just can't see why anyone would say they are not powerful. True they are not the Gods of War they were in ME1, but then they even nerfed the Soldier from ME1 as well. I dare you to stand out in the open and hold the trigger down with Soldier in ME2, like you could in Me1.

Pull, Warp, Throw, and Singularity are all used in great regularity. Warp explosions are definitely a part of the game, but also dropping people off the map, dragging explosives over to where you need them and blowing them up. Holding people in place so your teammates can kill them, heck I dare anyone to say the have an easier time with husks than an Adept and Scions are a piece of cake too.

I may be considered a cop out by most people but........

IF you think adepts are weak then you are not playing them right.

I had figured it was people simply comparing the Adept in ME2 to ME1. The Adept in ME1 had very little of a learning curve to figure out properly. I don't think the Adept in ME2 has much of a learning curve either on Veteran difficulty and below. But it probably has the steepest learning curve of all the classes on Hardcore/Insanity. But like all learning curves, once you get past it, it's gold.

Or, you know, just use Reave. :P

My main Sheps are adepts.... and there is nothing more fun than curing Heavy throw and tossing someone off the map. Don't worry about ammo powers (that is what you have squadmates for) and focus on energy drain.

I do take Warp ammo, squad on Collector missions. Pack along Miranda and Thane and watch the bodies drop. You want to buzz-saw through the collector platforms, then this pair will with an Adept will especially with squad warp.

For all other missions I take Energy Drain because this is the one true "weakness" of the adept. Warp does damage shields, and warp explosions as well, but Energy Drain not only lowers enemy shields but regens yours as well. This makes the Adept a very strong opponent and very versatile.

As an example of Adept power, on Miranda's Loyalty mission: Warp explode one guy which will strip most or all the shields off the others in the area, then use Pull which has extremely short cool down, to pull the rest over the railings and let them drop to their deaths. This can clear a battle in a very short time, plus if you need you can explode another to clear the way better, but warp has a longer cool down so this actually can slow you down if you do too many explosions. You can also use singularity or pull to move the explosive containers over to do the stripping of shields instead of warp explosion. So pull the explosive container, shoot it or have a companion detonate it, then start pulling enemies.

This solves nothing. Ymirs still have shields and armor. Its fast to strip regular enemies of shields and other "protection". But the adept in Mass Effect Too could not lift an ymir like he/she did it with armatures in the first game.(only when the thing has health and is near dead anyway)

Oh, you say that like it's a bad thing. It's like you want the Adept to be able to do everything regardless of the defenses on the enemy. That's pointless. Use your squadmates. Or don't play an Adept. I hear the Sentinel is very nice. It is perfectly okay to not like playing a certain class, but that's not going to mean that everyone is going to share that opinion. I strongly dislike playing a Soldier, but it's a very popular class for others to play.

I played an Adept on Insanity. There was a learning curve I had to get past, but overall I did end up having fun. And FENRIS and varren didn't kill me. It's not like I don't have Warp.

Still always return to the Infiltrator in the end, but that's because I love the Widow and headshotting YMIR mechs with them.

If all Biotics were able to affect enemies with defenses, everyone would probably be saying that the Adepts in ME2 are OP, just like for ME1.

Could anything really stop an ME2 adept if all their powers were able to bypass enemy defenses?

No.The adept is pointless now.Because his strenght lays in crowd that he couldnt perform well in higher difficulties because in addition to the "protection system" the duration of powers is lowered too.

It wouldnt if there are penalties inculded .Like lift an enemy with defenses increase the cooldown of your powers for some time or the adept loose his barrier doing so. And/or reduced duration. There are so much better ways to balance the adept instead of completly nerfing this class. The actual "solution" is pure crap and nonsensical.

Playing on insanity with an adept and kicking ass.

There's a trick to it.

1) Take a well rounded team to defend against your weaknesses.

2) Use powers wisely to play to your strengths.

3) Remember that warp will take armour and barriers down.

4) Remember than an SMG will take shields down.

5) Remember that a fatal fall is an easier kill than a push into a wall.
