I won't be moving on to awakening unless the existing problem with corrupted save files is fixed.  Why would I buy another installment knowing that in all likelihood it will not run correctly.  Until I have some playable proof that this game can run and the saves won't corrupt this next one is off my list.  I encourage all to do the same.

I've never had a corrupted save. Stop cheating and you won't have a problem.

i have never had a problem either its very strange that a lot of people have had it. Most have used some sort of cheat, via gold exploit or something.

If you haven't done that I do feel your pain but I've played over 15 characters, of which only 3 have survived ha ha but 2 to end game and never had one save issue.

No corrupted saves for me either. This tends to happen when you take advantage of glitches (like the infinite money one, the trap making one--which is now fixed on the PC--and other such bugs). I guess...don't take advantage of bugs, play the game the way it's meant to be played, and you shouldn't have a porblem. :/

I've never cheated while playing any game. EVER. I never even entered the konami code back in the day when I played contra I did it with 3 lives. This problem is not caused directly by whatever cheat some are using. It is caused by something else. Ask the question first. Check if I've cheated. Are you on Xbox or PC I've not heard of it on PC only xbox. I chose xbox version because mass effect which is bioware was unassialable lousy on pc so I figured I'd be better off sticking with the xbox version on another bioware title. Apparently they can only make a game good for one platform at a time.

highcastle again no idea what you're talking about. save problems absolutely are not limited to glitchers. i don't even know how to do the money cheat i keep reading about. i don't go online searching for ways to violate the experience of a game i payed 60 bucks for not to mention dlc. i sell only to one vendor, the guy in your camp bohan. i only sell things i can't give to my party or the allys chest. if thats somehow hacking i just don't know how to play games anymore.

How many saves are you running? I also heard it could be cause by having just to many saves. I only have 2 with each character I create, mine and the auto-save

I just had my first one yesterday, went to an older save and so far it's ok. But yes, I do hope this isn't going to be a trend for my saved games. I am on my 3rd playthrough on the PC and haven't used any cheats/exploits.

I started getting them with only two. Because I had just the two I lost the character entirely about 45 hours in. After that I started running 4-5 save files. I was rotating 4 of them with the 5th being a once every 4-5 hour save so I could maybe avoid going all the way back to the start. Lots of crashes. Finally I am now rotating the max save files for each character. I save about every 5 minutes. I still get crashes but I can avoid losing to much ground now. Still its an absurd problem to have. Save files should not be active at all unless being loaded to or from. Once created they should be golden until saved over. This is a 90s problem manifesting itself in a 2009 game. Its just plain laziness by designers.

That's your problem. A merchant's inventory can't handle that many items at once. Sell some junk to other merchants and you'll be fine.

The same problem arises when someone uses the gold glitch (producing and selling potions en masse because of infinite ingredients available from some merchants).

His inventory can't handle my items. Then why doesn't it happen right after I sell. It happens like hours and hours later while I'm trucking through the deep roads. So what should I just destroy some items

Um...there are tons of merchants all over the place. Sell to someone else?

Cant speak for Xbox but anytime i had a corrupted save on my old PS1 i wiped the save and started from scratch. Its not like your paying a monthly fee for the game.Im not sure how this is a Bioware issue though since the saves are on your Xbox are they not?Like a previous poster said, i kept two saves. One auto and one i created since i used my save disk for other games too.

It's probably an issue with your XBox. Which model of 360 are you using? Do you have the game installed or are you running it off the disc? Running the game off the disc can overheat your 360 easily which might cause your save files to corrupt.

I sell to Bodhan but I don't usually buy his crafting items, as they are too expensive in comparison with say, Figor in Orzammar or that barkeep in the Gnawed Noble tavern.   I still get save glitches and bottlenecks, diagnostic error 1005 ..(extra unknown files..whatever that means) and auto-saves that look like this:  autosave (4).   I've started to delete those ones, and at least some of my information has started downloading to the site instead of choking up or bottlenecking for a month at a time.

I don't use cheats, I used one mod file..the one that a dev made, (storage chest for the camp)  just recently and it made Shale look like a bunch of square edged rubble, and Daveth with his top part of his body on backwards.    So deleted, uninstalled, deleted my account, used the repair function to try to flush excess files (no longer used as were deleted) off the server.

I am STILL getting error messages, so I am stumped.

Feels like an issue with the Xbox 360 to me. I love who every problem people experience with a game is blamed on the developer. No matter what the issue. Whether it is something they have control over or not, everything is automatically their fault.

Worried it was the hard drive I bought a new harddrive. Figured it wasn't that and this problem began causing other error messages I sent my xbox for repair. They sent me a brandy new one. Now I have a one month old hard drive and a 4 day old xbox. Error can ONLY be the game. I don't get pissed at developers until I've ruled out all other possible sources. I shouldn't have to monitor who I sell to in order to play a video game. Again as I mentioned I started with just one save and the auto save. When both got burnt 45 hours into the game I started making multiples. There is no monthly fee and isn't it sad as gamers that we've accepted apparently without a monthly fee the game released can not work at all and thats just our problem. Again I'm not saying that Bioware must fix this problem, I'm simply stating that if this isn't fixed by the time awakening comes out would it really make sense to invest more money in an already broken system.

If over selling to one npc causes the problems the fix should be simple. Have the actual game cap the number of items I can sell to the appropriate level. I don't want to have to guess at that number and then get burnt when my estimate is off.

I was simply referring to his "Do I have to just destroy items then?" question which is, of course, silly.

I sell to Bodahn a ton myself, at least until I do Soldier's Peak (fyi, you get better prices there). I actually use a lot of mods, though all cosmetic, never had a save file corrupted (knock on wood). I'm obviously not saying it doesn't happen, but it's not all that common I'd think.

Then again, I do use PC. That could be the difference.

You are saying sell to someone else. The problem is that it happens way later in the game. Possibly hours later. That being said I don't know the magic number for how much I can sell to a vendor. Is it 20 items? Is it 200 items? If I don't know what I can safely sell to a vendor without violating my game then I can't really sell very much to vendors for fear that I'll break that barrier whatever it may be. Also just to clear it up I deleted all of my characters except one and I kept only two of my saves with him. That being said I'm still getting stalling so its definitely not save number, at least not in my case. I checked bodhan and it doesn't seem like he has that much maybe 20 items in a category or so. Personally I think its just the game and that all the rest is just guess work at a problem that is in the base structure of the game.

You chose very wrong. If you have a decent PC, you should always buy the PC one. Especially when the game is made by a PC-centric company like Bioware.

The problems you saw in Mass Effect 1's PC version were due to the fact that it was programmed by a 3rd party rather than Bioware themselves. Anyone who follows the hobby closely knew this and also knew Bioware was handling the sequel on the PC *personally* this time. Lapses in your judgement are the cause here, not Bioware's supposed lack of Quality Assurance.

Though really, I've taken 4 characters through Dragon Age (PC) and haven't had a problem. I think the consoles use very substandard hard drives that are susceptible to failure, thus your corrupted saves. They can't fix that.

It sounds like your problems are about the bioware social site though...which is still officially a beta. I think the OP is talking about his actual game saves are corrupted when he tries to load them.

OP: I don' t know a magic number either, I'm sorry. If selling too many items to a single person does seem to be a possible culprit, it shouldn't be hard to just use the merchants in whatever area you're in, rather than always selling at camp or what have you.

you kidding right? ME1 was running at like 10 frames per sec on my 360 during the final mission while the item menu almost drove me crazy, i finally gave it up and bought it on PC, which is much, much better.

Tax I support that many games are better on PC based on the ability to customize, mod, and all around tailor the game to your personal preferences. I know that ME1 was done 3rd party but it was still Bioware. I enjoy the console version of many games because I prefer playing on my tv and well mostly I stick to fps and rts on computer. Your professed lapse in my judgement is laughable though as you are basically saying its acceptable for Bioware to release a decent game for one system and crap on a ****** for another call them the same and charge the same. I expected that due to the actual hands on from Bioware the PC version would improve. I was not expecting that the console version would be such an utter failure though. I didn't see it as a corollary that in order for one to get better the other should get worse. The same things that make games somewhat more enjoyable at times on PC generally make them more stable on consoles (ie. there is only one system) Bioware doesn't have to make the game to work on multiple systems that are different in many ways they just have to fit one layout. Should be much much easier. As I mentioned earlier its not a debate of where I should have purchased this game. I bought a retail version of a game period. I own it for xbox. If they can't make it work there I obviously won't be moving forward to awakening. That was the start of this post and it remains true. I'm not trying to bring up PC vs. Console thats a whole other debate. My point is simply that those Xbox users who can't get the game to work correctly should expect either a patch or Bioware's acceptance that we won't be participating in the sequel.
