Just seen the Dragon Age: Origins Digital Deluxe Edition appear for pre-order on the UK Steam store. This is good news, and I'll definitely be doing it. BUT: It's listed as certified R18! That can't be right, surely? The BBFC discribes R18 as "to be shown only in specially licensed cinemas, or supplied only in licensed sex shops." Now, I knew Bioware were pushing the envelope with DAO, but that's got to be a mistake? Surely you just meant 18?

Good to know I can find DA:O at my local Pleasure Zone. I wonder if they're offering any pre order bonuses?

You get a 'lucky stone' if you preorder the CE there, JEB.

I guess Morrigan's kinkier than I gave her credit for.

She's a creative shapeshifter.

All the more reason for your showdown with her to occur.

Witches Gone Wild?  Awesome.  Hope my rogue can use a staff during the showdown, too.

The love scenes in Mass Effect weren't really that risque. In Baldur's Gate II, they were nonexistent. I didn't play much of KOTOR.  I wonder what they have in DA:O to warrant an R18 rating.

Two words: Ogre. Shapeshift.

Maybe it has to do with Zevran sneaking into the PC's tent. Naked. Especially if the PC is male.

Also I hope Morrigan takes advantage of her Spider form.

Y'know, what…maybe I'll have to roll a Mage specialized in Shapeshifting after all…

R18? Really? Huh. That's kind of pushing it. I guess now we know whether Rabbit is romanceable or not, though.

lol. This thread took a disturbing turn while I was asleep. I had a look and, according to the BBFC web site, DA:O is classified 18, so it must be a mistake. The censor's report says:

The game was classified ‘18’ for strong bloody violence. This includes the sight of bloody violence during numerous battles, and ‘cut scenes’ which show characters slashing enemies in the face, driving knives into their heads and so on. These attacks are accompanied by sight of spurting blood. If the player follows a certain story path they may also kill innocent characters in cold blood. At ‘15’, the BBFC’s Guidelines state that ‘violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable.’ In the case of DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS, it was felt that the violence shown did indeed dwell on the infliction of pain and injury as detailed above, thus leading to the 18 certificate.

There's a little bit more on the sex in the game, too, but it's possibly mildly spoilerific.

I guess the trailers really were censored before they boxed the game?

It's R16 here in New Zealand. Then again nearly all R18 stuffs elsewhere are R16 here, and there has never been a game rated R18.

So little distance from Australia, yet such a great difference.

EDIT: I just noticed, the Steam version already includes Warden's Keep, while the rest of us have to buy it seperately? o.O

Yes, it's a little more expensive as well, so it's included in the price, and they subtracted the loss of the nice box and cloth map you'd otherwise get.

It's a fair deal, if it's all you want. I'm cancelling my other preorder for this.
