Which is better and why?

EDIT: I think the ultimate test of which weapon is better should be tried out in Insanity, the hardest mode for ME2.  So thats what I did.  Without a doubt, the Revenant came out on top.

Before we even talk about damage, accuracy etc, heres a little something I discovered quite fast.  Even the Revenant runs out of ammo in Insanity, what does that say about the Vindicator?

I'd prefer the Vindicator. Revenant LMG is too inaccurate unless you intend on engaging all your targets at close range.

Vindicator is godly. I don't know why you'd pick the Revenant when the glorious beast that is the Widow is staring you in the face...

Revenant is great if you want sustained damage. One thing to keep in mind with the Revenant is that the Assault Rifle Accuracy upgrade is paramount. Once you get that, the Revenant will be able to hit targets farther away if you burst fire. Revenant is also great for more situations than the Widow since it works from medium to close range while Widow is only for long range combat,

Widow is a monster for dealing bursts of damage. If you want to be able to take down enemies in one hit, Widow is for you. The important thing to keep in mind, though, is that you only get 12 shots with the Widow. Maybe a bit more if you use the extra ammo armor.

So basically, Revenant for overall utility and a huge clip of 80 rounds with 480 round reserve.

Widow for massive damage while you have ammo for it.

The Revenant is downright the best non-heavy weapon in the game once you get the assault rifle accuracy upgrade. Before that, it's still a beast. I'd hate to say it, but you just have to know how to aim and burst lol... not all that complicated to use. I never run out of ammo and everything dies. Fast.

Revenant is okay up to mid range really but you have to fire in bursts of 2 to 3 shots at the most otherwise it gets too inaccurate. Vindicator is better at mid range but sucks at melee I think. Revenant is great against Husks and on stuff that is close. It's not like you want to use an assault rifle for long range anyways as a soldier because you have a sniper rifle for a reason.

When a player learns that using the AR at long range is pointless, since you have sniper rifles for that, the medium/close range dominance of the Revenant gains a lot of value. It's powerful like the Vindicator, shoots fast like the Avenger, and has more ammo than them both. Pure win.

Both have their significant flaws.

Vindicator's ammo capacity is absurdly low

Revenant is a spray n pray machine with some mean recoil

Personally I prefer the geth pulse as my primay all purpose gun.

Theres a thread somewhere that has some guy who peeked at the game mechanics and found out the stats of the gun.

Vindicator is by far, bullet-by-bullet, the strongest Battle Rifle in the game.

The Carnifex hand cannon is the strongest weapon in the game except for the heavyweapons and sniper rifles.

The Geth pulse rifle ranked at the bottom of the AR list, in terms of damage.  Just thought Id let you know

I found the Revenant to be ridiculously effective. The Vindicator is good, sure, but it's for longer ranges and you've got snipers for that. With the accuracy upgrade, the Revenant is just too good to pass up in close to medium range. It's almost a bit sad, I rarely use the shotguns for this very reason. :(

Revenant is awesome. Sure it's not great at long range, but don't forget that you have a sniper rifle.

Revenant is easily better. Not. Even. Close.

On about playthrough 6 now, I'd have to give the top award to the Revenant.

Its ability to lay out a sustained cloud of "&^%$ you" at the enemy is a treasure at medium and close range.

It can actually be utilized decently well at longer ranges if one uses "Adrenaline Rush" to slow things down enabling you to tame its recoil and effectively burst fire.  My first playthrough the game I picked up the Widow as I tend to prefer sniping.  Problem with the Widow is that it only cares 12(13) rounds, gets only one shot per clip before reloading, and on highest difficulties no longer has that one-shot-kill potential that makes it so deadly in the lower difficulties.  On Hardcore and Insanity I'll trade the Widow's damage for the Revenant's potential for suppressing and saturation fire without a second thought.
Get the Revenant, and upgrade it appropriately and you are a walking dervish of "Get the hell out of my way"

I actually prefer the Avenger over the Vindicator and I'll pull out the Revenant if i'm on a mission needing sustained heavier fire power.

I really haven't used the Revenant that much since I'm a damned surgeon with the Vindicator. I load up the appropriate ammo, throw down adrenaline burst, and unload headshots until they drop. I'm a pretty good shot though, so if you can't lay down headshots as efficiently as I can then the Revenant would probably be the way to go.

The Vindicator is absolutely deadly at a range between medium and long distance. At that range your enemies don't have the accuracy to take you down quickly and they're still too far off to start flanking you. With the sniper rifle it takes time to acquire a new target; but with the Vindicator as soon as your first target drops you can quickly move on to the next.

Ultimately its a question of what range you prefer to engage the enemy at. If you enjoy mowing cats down close up then the Revenant's inaccuracy isn't an issue; but I never let them get that close.

I find myself head shotting a lot of ennemies at long range when doing small manual bursts with the Revenant. It's not so innacurate imo.

Revenant is also very accurate after the upgrade and if you fire in short bursts. So if you are good shot you would easily reap its benefits :)

I'll have to give the Revenant another shot. I got to be so effective with the Vindicator that I never really took the time to get a real feel for the Revenant.

Both have their Pros and Cons. The Revenant is better at taking out larger enemies, as the accuracy isn't an issue. The vindicator is better at general skirmishing etc. The other two AR's are just useless and your gimping your self by using them.

Prefer Avenger. Revenant is good in the end game (kills massed enemies easily) but a bit too inaccurate.

Vindicator? Sucks. Wastes ammo if fired on low health enemy. Autoaim throws my aim off easily (too strong Autoaim in the game). Besides, burst firing weapons are not cool.

Avenger is full auto, accurate if you limit your fire, good damage. The best. And looks the best too.

Hello,

Before, I used to use the Collector's assault rifle, the Vindicator lacks sufficient amo.

But since I got stuck in Garrus's loyalty mission (veteran, no heavy weapons used) against the pair of YMIR mechs, I have only used the Revenant. Against large enemies, it is the best weapon one could wish.

You can fire the Revenent in 4 - 5 shot bursts rapidly, back to back, only letting go of the trigger for a split second to reset the crosshairs, and you essentially have a full auto machine gun with no recoil. It's very accurate with the accuracy upgrade as well, and it doesn't run out of ammo. It does the most damage of all the AR's per bullet other than the Vindicator, and it's capable of putting more lead down range faster -- the Revenant out damages every other gun, other than heavy weapons, in any battle that lasts more than a few moments -- which in insanity and hardcore, is most of them.

I always give the Vindicator to my squaddies though, since they never run out of ammo :3
