If I am playing on a low difficulty like normal I prefer using an adept with throw field and pull field for hours of flinging enemies helplessly about the ME universe. But if I am feeling serious it has to be the Infiltrator with the Widow Anti-Material Rifle FTW!

1. Infiltrator, great mix of powers and guns

2. Sentinel, tech armor is sweet, nice being able to deal with any defense

3. Vanguard, fun, frenetic combat, but often frustrating

4. Soldier, straightforward and vanilla, downright boring on veteran. . . maybe on insanity

5. Adept, complete pain in the *** (took one to lvl 30, never again!)

have yet to play engineer, couldn't be worse than adept

Infiltrator for me. I like the type that moves quietly, and keeps his kills nice and clean.

In ME1 I was vanguard all the way. So naturally in ME2 I imported my vanguard, and chose...vanguard. 16 hours in a realized...I hate the vanguard in ME2.

The shotgun felt weak compared to ME1's along with no carnage ability for it (used that a lot). Charge while seeming awesome I found all too soon is worthless. Any time I could use it without dying it was quicker to just shoot the enemy. Then their next power, pull....bleh, not unique, not that usefull. If you cant tell I was dissapointed with the vanguard.

So I went with sentinel...woah it feels better. I actually like pistols in this game (ill probably take the sniper as my alternate weapon choice later). Having the ability to deal with any defense is very helpful, along with a strong defense with tech armor lets me feel like I can have a easier time with most party members then just sticking with a specific 2.

Soldier is way too boring for me, the shooting mechanics in ME2 are better but...its still not a fps.

adept feels...trying

never liked engineer, still dont, dont like drones much.

Ill probably try a renegade infiltrator (if I can stand it, i find it soo difficult to be a bad guy in games) eventually, though im not a big fps fan...I like em, but im not very good...if it requires a really good shot ill probably drop it.

Sentinel is just fun, walking round with added armor, 100% of your shields, and stays on till destroyed then sends a shockwave out. can also amplify your powers or weapon damage

the best

I really hope they upgrade the Adept into more of what it used to be, I just miss all the options.

Personally found Sentinel the funnest on all difficulties. Loved playing on normal, tearing down a krogans armor, then daring him to do the same to my shield, and watching him get blown away XD

Vanguard. I definitely do not do as well at it as other classes, but nothing beats a successful vanguard house-clearing, where you charge into the midst of a crowd of enemies with AOE charge and then proceed to blow them all away.

Oh, and charge + melee is fun too.  Especially against Krogan.

Sentinel.

Nothing beats taking away enemys defenses with my tech armor and Assault Rifle specialization.

They just can´t do anything...even on insanity...

Actually, I think Vanguard in ME2 is way better than ME1 and it was my favorite in ME1.  It could have used more armor or shields though to allow for more aggressive in your face fighting.   When I played, on Insantity level, charging was very limited during the first 16 hours of gameplay.  Once you have heavy charge, upgraded health, max incinerary ammo and the second shotgun with upgrades, you can start to be more aggressive with charge.

The shotgun starts off weak, IMO, but becomes very useful mid game.

I am actually looking forward to perhaps a second run through with Vanguard now that I know how to play the class.

I also choose Reave as my bonus skill and ignored pull.  Reave works on sheilds and armor and probably more useful throughout the game than pull.

I agree - Engineer in ME2 requires more brains since you have weak armor - you need to deploy your squad and drone effectively.  The engineer can develop a good ability to counter every enemy, so you switch and adapt.  You can fire a gun, throw your tech and curve them, and use the drone and hacking to control enemies.

Soldier was pretty boring. All it is is shooting. No powers worth mentioning.

Liked the Sentinel, but I'm having the most fun with an Adept. Curving Singularities and Warps around cover is awesome.

after trying soldier, sentinel and vanguard...the best one and most enterteining was the sentinel by far.

at first with low powers i was dissapointed with the class, but once i reached guardian max the game started to be much more entertaining, with very short cooldowns(1-2) sec, both tech and biotic most usefull powers against shields and barriers, and also a huge tank life.

the best of each class + huge shield.

So far Sentinel, but I have a feeling Engineer might beat that in fun because of AI Hacking :D

While certainly not optimal, an Engineer w/ Dominate is mighty fun (even in Insanity). AI Hacking + Dominate = Death by fratricide. Of course, you DO give up some offence punch (especially if you were going to take a damage/ammo bonus power) but to me fun = win :)

Played vanguard...charge wears off it's novelty after a few hours when the enemies starts packing in numbers. Plus there's no proper skill to wear off enemy defenses.

Played sentinel next on hardcore. More fun and effective in combat, but I still preferred the adept where I tried it a little while on normal.

As an adept, no one can hide from you! They wan to charge at you, throw...they wan to charge in numbers, a shockwave or singularity. Wan to hide somemore? Just pull their sorry butts out of the cover. Warp is your 101 to all enemy barriers...even shields! although not as powerful as overload.

Really, infiltrators are the most popular? Sure, if you like playing a bullet time sniping mini game, then I could see how ya might like that.

I enjoy the sentinel so far.

Adept is my baby (I've finished ME2 4 times so far with my different adepts). Now I am playing as Vanguard and man totally different game. Vanguard seems to be a lot more fun but only because the Shield/Armor = immune to most Biotics makes Adept kinda meh. Oh and all my plays are on veteran ... I'd imagine both of these classes are pretty rough on Hardcore and above: Adept due to even more immunities and Vanguard just because being up close and personal with the baddies is already dangerous enough on Veteran.... probably even scarrier on Hardcore/Insane.

you can also cloak, run up to enemies, and beat them to death.

I liked doing that... a lot.

but yeah, it was a lot of sniping, and a lot of cloak-punching...

but some weapons like the Widow tend to run out of sniper ammo fast, so you fall back to smgs and your fist of fury. (I would rather get disruptor fist than the incinerate ability, or better yet an assassin take down that resets your stealth time.)

Hmmm, I hope BioWare have a look at this. It's close to 1000 votes now and should give them a hint at what class might need some work.

They tried to balance up all classes in Mass Effect 2, and did it rather well I think. But I can't hide the fact that I did enjoy the old Mass Effect 1 classes more than these.

Especially Biotics, which I feel is such a powerful "power" that it's almost a shame to have it like it is now, I want enemy Biotics to toss me about, pull me out of cover and all that.
