Hmmm, I hope BioWare have a look at this. It's close to 1000 votes now and should give them a hint at what class might need some work.
They tried to balance up all classes in Mass Effect 2, and did it rather well I think. But I can't hide the fact that I did enjoy the old Mass Effect 1 classes more than these.
Especially Biotics, which I feel is such a powerful "power" that it's almost a shame to have it like it is now, I want enemy Biotics to toss me about, pull me out of cover and all that.
I don't know if the voting is all that great for developing classes - its just a popularity contest. Afterall, who doesn't like popping off headshots?
I just wish you could use multiple powers, or at least two powers at once. The single power cooldown does too much to limit the powers.

I do think it gives a great insight to what classes people find the most fun in Mass Effect 2. Sure, headshots are fun, but if you look at the poll Infiltrator may be on top, but Soldier and Vanguard aren't that far behind. That should tell BioWare that those three are quite fine as they are.
Engineer has 45 votes out of 1118, and that gives you a strong indication it's lacking in the fun department. Adept and Sentinel are doing ok, but still at half the fun factor of the top three.

Inf was the most powerful with their 1 shot slow-motion headshots. Very fun but after 10 hours of zoom click booming, there was no alternative.
Soldier felt very much the same only instead of zoom click boom it was cover, adrenaline unload into nearest baddy, cover... rinse repeat. Still alot of fun but lost some of its fun half way through.
Adept was a pain to get started. Had to force myself to continue playing but by the end of the game it was alot more fun than the former two. Being able to curve throws and warps as well as having to actually use my teamates to break down defenses instead of just soloing the game was a nice change of pace. Also singularity + warp or throw never got old. Watching that collector fly into the sky never to come back down was just so.. so.. mmm-mmm-good.
I dabbled in the remaining three classes and sentinel seems like another tactical choice where as vanguard seems like another zoom click boom class. Engineer is just bot spamming which is pretty effective against large baddies allowing your team to do the dirty but seems like it could have been more.

The problem with Vanguard is that you never really feel you can make a difference. Pulling off your charge and killing 1-2 enemies in a spectacular manner is satisfying; but at the point where you can pull that off and survive, the enemies will be so few and/or powerless that they won't be a threat anymore anyway. Try a charge in any situation that's actually dangerous and threatening, like your whole team pinned down by multiple, protected enemies, and you'll just get killed before the slowing effect even wears off.
Granted I haven't tried ME2 on Insanity yet (Just completed my first playthrough on hardcore with my vanguard)
I found 1-2 situations where Charge is an excellent skill, but since those situations doesn't pop up to often it's not really worth it.
Situation 1: A dangerous enemy gets close to you, and you need to get away. Example is the boss fight in the deactivated collector ship, I was standing on the hill going down chugging away at it's health, when it had reached me, I used charge on a drone standing a long way behind the boss. Also used it to get away from 2 scions who cornered me in Horizon.
Situation 2: You get cornered by a krogan or several husks, use charge to protect yourself from damage untill a team-mate can clear the field for you.
Vanguards skills are overall pretty meh, Shockwave as one awesome purpose though. It tears through Husks like nobody's buisness. I just let the husks gather up and run towards me, and use heavy shockwave against them and they fly away like bowling pins.
Haven't decided if i'll continue with my vanguard on insanity, or try a infiltrator.

I think the Vanguard class needs a bit of confidence from the player in order to pay off. You need to overcome your fear of getting killed and instead go killing yourself. Playing a Vanguard is a cat-and-mouse game, where you yourself are obviously the cat. If you use 'shockwave', 'charge' and a close-combat shotty at the right moments, it really feel like you're totally trashing your opponents without a shred of fear, it makes you feel mighty and satisfied.

Playing with Soldier and Infiltrator is ok, fun, but does not give you the "yeah, I did it" feeling as it is very simple, straightforward and easy to play with them, even on Insanity. (Ok, CQC Infiltator is not, but I assume majority of the voters play the Widow way.)

So I finally imported my 60 adept from ME1 and figured I'd play as adept in ME2... And all these damn armored characters ****** me off. I have these funky abilities, and all they do is grind on the armor, and once the armor is gone the enemy's dead anyway, so I have no chance of having fun with it. All I can do is shrug and scratch my head wondering whoever figured this was cool.
I feel your pain. In ME1 Adept was godlike even on Insanity. In ME2 Adept also can be godlike on Insanity but forget the ME1 style. It requires a totally different approach AND heavy and proper usage of henchmen. When you learn this and master to build up huge warp bombs, master to properly use Singularity, you will find that Adept is a very strong, just not alone but WITH the proper teammates. And Warp bombs are fun, especially in the second half of the game when you have enough upgrades. Actually Adpet needs a little bit more brainwork than, for example the Soldier class.

From the perspective of roleplay, Sentinel and Engineer feel a bit strange. According to names, "TECH Armor" should rightly belong to engineers and DRONE to sentinels (=scouts). OTOH, why no other class should be able to wear Tech Armor escapes me; seems no reason for it to be a unique "ability" - as opposed to equipment. Edit: But, anyway, the same can be said about "ammo powers"...

Sentinel probably since it can do just about everything but snipe. Adept was the worst; my god is it useless on hardcore and insanity.
Adept? Useless? On Insanity?
Hardly!
I'd say it's even the most fun class our there for Insanity. It's not easy, but it's quite awesome once you get the hang of it.

That said, I did think it's weakness to shields was a little overdone. On normal it's my flat-out fave, but on harder difficulties it really needs a bit more thought (or Energy Drain... does Nemesis cover all power cooldowns? It felt like it did)

CQC (close-quarters combat) Infiltrators can be close though. But they are nowhere near as extreme as Vanguards.
