Does anyone know a way to avoid the "Defence at the Gate" randomish encounter? It is the one that will focus on the other party group not selected to scale Fort Drakon.
Regarding a particular Final Battle encounter

I don't think it's possible. I get it everytime no matter what.

Hmmm ok... I was wondering if getting less than a full group for that encounter might help, ie having only 3 spare members.

Is it possible to have nobody left for that section?
I know you can get rid of Leliana, Wynne, Allistar, Morrigan, Zevran, and Sten.
That would leave 4 left?
PC, Dog, Loghain, Ohgren
- Then you may not have to do it. You would have to leave Shale.

I think I'm gonna try this on my next playthrough. I wanted to a DW Warrior, but that'll leave me with mostly melee attackers at the end and no healers.
I guess I could use potions and crossbows. Might be fun to try. Most likely I would save the Mages, but kill Wynne defiling the ashes. Then I could have Mages for the Archdemon.
It'll be interesting to see if I have to defend the gates if nobody is there.

Unavoidable.

Why would you want to avoid it? That encounter is so ridiculously easy that the 'blue circle' guys will win with no input from you whatsoever...even on nightmare.

Well. Get rid of Zevran, Leliana, Morrigan, Wynne, Sten, Shale, Oghren and Shale if you want.
You'll probably be left with Alistar/Loghain soloing that bit if you don't get/remove the rest from your party.

Trying to preserve the '100% Damage' counter? I hear ya.
Just take the four companions you've been assigned and set tactics to self:any -> wait and then have them hold position. The uncontollable, blue-circled guys should win no problem. If it looks like they need help for some reason, take your controlled mage and cast non-damaging CC spells like sleep or paralyze. Either way, you'll emerge the victor and your solo PC will still show 100% damage.

^ Sweet. Its either I skip it completely or have more than enuff member such that the spare will act as dmg dealers while the "main party" support with non damage talents. It will seem dumb to some.
