That doesn't have have to be true, remember she's not carrying a normal baby but a special one with the soul of an old god, who knows how long those pregnancies last and after 6 months the child could be an adult for all we know...
However it doesn't seem likely and the most likely candidate for returning is Oghren since there is a likeness in the trailers and he does actually make sense, but until Bioware makes an official statement no one can say with 100% certainty who the returning companion will be.

I have a feeling Morrigan will be making a cameo appearance but that's just a feeling mainly based on the fact that the Architect is in it and that her baby might be at risk because of it.

In essence the theory of avoiding all companions that can be killed would mean none of the previous companions besides Morrigan could ever return, because you can kill them all except her... There's no real reason to avoid a companion just because some might have killed him/her especially not if the companion is just a companion and not an essential part of the core story.

If it is going to be Oghren and you did kill him there's 2 scenarios that seem most likely for your game, either you just won't come across him or you will and it turns out he was badly wounded after your fight and you left him for dead but is still alive.

As it turns out it is possible to to kill or let die any member of the party. Except Morrigan.
 
Going against my own advice, I think time to release and availability of voice actor is more likely to have more weight than story line.
It is a bit a catch 22 because, statistically people that want an old party member to return are more likely to be interested in one of the 4 love interest which with little creativity can be reduced to two, and that is the least labour intensive are probably Ogrhen Sten and the dog
 
 
You can bring your gear, in so the graphical models should be compatible between the two games, So mod or dlc old companion can be a possibility

After refusing Morrigan ritual she is leaving the room. She stops for a second. In that second you have the option to say "Morrigan?", she turns and you throw the dagger at her throat. Epic ending to the Bi... ahem... Witch...

Definitely can confirm that Sten can be killed - for me it was in the cultist village - he asked me why we were "wasting time" in the mountains clear on the other side of Ferelden.  I told him to respect mah authoritai and he attacked the party.  Besides that, you could just never free him from the cage, and he'd die when the Blight overwhelmed Lothering.

I also saw Alistair in the preview - in fact in the preview for Anders the human female says something about "your Majesty" implying that Alistair is king. Since that did not happen in any of my playthroughs, I'm hoping that they would sub in Anora if your game ended with her on the throne. I never knew Oghren could be killed, but that pretty much means every single NPC companion from the original game can die in one version or another of a playthrough.



So... my vote for returning "favorite" would be someone like Bann Teagan - impossible to kill in the main storyline, many people wished he was recruitable and/or a romance option. This way no matter how your original game ends, the same "favorite" could be in the xpac.

Morrigan is the only person that you couldnt kick from your party because she kept freakin returning! and you cant kill her either! i tried to kill my whole party so me and dog could be the only heros but Morrigan made it out of the fight too. I killed Leliana at the Urn of Sacred Ashes because 1.) She was annoying/crazy and 2.) I just don't see how someone could go from Bard to chantry, it just doesn't fit my book... i think she's up to something... 

I killed Zevron while he was knocked out because once and assassin always an assassin and he makes me paraniod.

I killed Wynne because I wanted to kill everyone in the circle because i think thats what they diserve and im suprised that incidents like that dont happen more often.

I killed Shale when I sided with Branka + Shale is a DLC so she wont be an option.

I let Anora send Allister away when I married her because he whined too much,

Sten, the last i checked he was partying with his people back where ever the quanari live,

Soooooooo! That leaves Morrigan! She will atleast have a cameo,
Maybe something about my baby! (I got her preggo beacause with Allister gone and Loghain dead i wanted to live!) + Did you all know that the architect is the one that finds old gods and taunts their soul to make them into archdemons? Well he does that so this is the perfect setting for Morrigan to seek the help from her lover! *bows* Thank you Thank you! I truly think this is what will happen and i stand by my decision 100%!

DREAM ON IT! Morrigan returning NO THANKS!! If it's just for fan service and you just suck, killing everyone is pointless in an rpg where you depend on other or did mistook rpg with fps ?!  <_<

I find it interesting, and irritating, that people get hung up on a specific character just because someone looks like him/her. ...and with this I mean Oghren.
I personally hope for Leliana, but after reading the first post Morrigan does seem like a likely candidate.

Would be more "fun" if NONE of the previous people joined in Awakening. That way everyone (or at least the majority) would be disappointed when their favourite doesn't show up.

That would probably be the smartest thing for BioWare to do, on this I agree.

You guys seem pretty hung up on Morrigan's baby. Keep in mind that she didn't have to get pregnant. There is an option to bypass that entirely.
