Does NG+ overwrite previous playthrough?

But now I want to start an Insanity run. If I do a NG+ (though I understand it really doesn't give me much benefit), will that overwrite my previous profile / saved games? Or does it create a new career. IIRC, in ME1 it was the same career but kept the saved games.
Unfortunately, EA/BioWare doesn't let us copy saved games to a different storage device otherwise i'd just back it up and try, but I don't plan on doing absolutely everything in Insanity and I plan on taking my time with this one and trying out a few decisions I don't want to carry over to ME3.

I finished ME2 with all characters alive and all choices I wanted, and hit 30 (imported ME1 lvl 60 character and finished all missions/assignments). So I want to use that one for ME3.

It creates a new career so you will still have your playthrough #1. So you'll have 2 career saves, both with the same name and background, etc.
How did this work with ME1? I only played 1 playthrough and up to level 44.. So if I did a 2nd playthrough on ME1 to hit 60, will it create a new career? And which decisions from ME1 would it import; 1st or 2nd?

I personally did a new career for going on insanity. From what I can tell its actually harder doing NG+ on insanity than it is on a new career. I could be wrong but I'm having an easier time as a new character on insanity.
Yeah I actually had a lot of trouble on NG+ with my level 26 on insanity and decided to just make a new career altogether for my achievement. I kept dying early on, Freedom's I think, probably cause I was just bad. <_<

Yes it is harder. Christina Norman said this would be the case before ME2 came out. The best way to go is to start a new career w/ME1 Level 60 character after finishing ME2 once. This gives maximum bonuses yet keeps the difficulty from being ramped up as it is for NG+.
