In reality however, I would personally have kept at least one of my older-model weapons as a backup for long term engagements in planetary 'trench warfare' where thermal heatsinks become scarce along with other resources. Being caught without a reliable weapon is to be killed...

I was studying the information about the damage put out by the ME2 weapons (http://social.biowar.../index/910842/1) and the best weapon of each catergory was weaker than the Spectre - Master Gear Level X except in Sniper Rifles then the Widow Anti-Material Rifle is better.

Unless they changed how damage is calculated not only have thermal clips been added in but our supply of weapons is weaker than the best we could get in ME1.

I would stick with the Widow Anti-Material Rifle & Spectre - Master Gear Level X Assualt Rifle, Pistol, & Shotgun.

Sniper Rifles are the one point where I would want the older model under any circumstance. The change to heatsinks was made to "put more shots downrange in a shorter time". That's great for assault rifles and SMGs, but hand cannons and sniper rifles (and probably even shotguns) aren't made for that sort of use. Single, powerful shots are their specialty, so forcing the switch on them makes no sense, especially because they run out of ammo the fastest.

Faster gameplay.

faster gameplay... then give us more spare ammo. shotguns with 11 rounds is not that fun.

I cleared the entire game on my Vanguard and I never had an issue for ammo.  Remember, a lot of areas keep throwing enemies at you until you advance, charge prevents you from fighting almost half the enemies in the game.  I used the Eviscerator until I got the Claymore.  If you need more than those 11(turning to 21 with the shotgun capacity upgrade) then you need to learn how to aim, or stop trying to snipe with a shotgun.

Not once did I scrounge around looking for ammo. Perhaps you should use your weapons wisely or powers more often.....

Play the game on hardcore or higher and say that with a straight face.

I had to melee two drones to death on the Collector ship while playing Insanity because I ran out of ammo on all weapons.

And don't bother with the "let your teammates with unlimited ammo do all the work" argument. I'm saving the damn galaxy, not playing a sissy hiding behind boxes while every one else does all the work.

Played a Soldier on Hardcore.  Never once did I have to stop using my Assault Rifle except in situations where I *wanted* to use my sniper.  Learn how to aim.
