No no no....  It's more that I've felt so much better so I've actually been DOING things rather than sitting at the computer every single night... Betaing your stuff Saga doesn't take that much time, and it's way eaiser than creating stuff myself.

I'm just kinda stuck wrt getting Duncan, Alistair, and Daveth to Highever. I want them to stop in Amaranthine, because Duncan is still looking for recruits, but we know he doesn't find any so what's the point? They did stop at Vigil's Keep and were turned away because Howe has the place locked down, but now I'm kinda stuck. Do I just jump to Highever, or do I write "A Warden Commander, a Chantry Bastard, and a Pickpocket walk into a bar..." which could be teh funniez but really irrelevant plot-wise?
ETA: Also, with my Most Hated Co-Worker being gone I have to do some of her crap in the interim, and then train the new person once they come on board. Did I mention that I'm an awful teacher?   So I haven't had as much sneaky-free-time at work.

But Daveth and Alistair didn't go to Highever, just Duncan. So wouldn't they split up, and Duncan send Alistair and Daveth to Ostagar while heading on alone? The Daveth and Alistair show would amuse me greatly. And when does Jory show up?

My plan is to have Duncan send Jory, Alistair, and Daveth ahead to Ostagar, after picking up Jory from the tournament in Highever. Then Duncan goes to Castle Cousland to talk to Bryce about "restoring honor" to his wayward daughter...

Oh I see. So, what's the problem? Maybe give a snippet of them showing up at Amaranthine and getting das boot and then going to Highever for the tournament. Daveth, Jory, and Alistair are sent to to Ostagar (oh, the lulz) and Duncan hangs around to perv on I mean recruit Elisara.

I dunno, I also wanted to write a scene where Daveth realizes he picked Alistair's pocket, and Alistair gets all indignant about it. But maybe that's just too fluffy.

 Wait, so Duncan actually goes to Highever and says something like 'So, everyone thinks you're daughter's a **** so why not ruin her life and fix her reputation all in one move by making her a Warden?'

Or am I totally misreading that?

Well, he'd say it much more diplomatically than that... he probably wouldn't come up and say it straight out. Play up her skills as a fighter and an asset to the Wardens, and maybe she could do more good for the Cousland name and for Ferelden/Thedas as a Warden rather than a lordling's wife? I also don't think Ellie would look on it as her life being ruined (pre-Howe's attack)



Duncan does say he came to Highever hoping to recruit the younger Cousland... why would he think he'd even have a chance unless there were extenuating circumstances? He's not going to conscript a noble (until things really fall apart later, obviously) so why would he even think he had a chance if there wasn't something out of the ordinary going on?

The Younger Cousland was also supposed to be the heir, not Fergus, so that compounds Duncan's recruitment problems..

Aren't they supposed to give up their names, though?
Of course, I fall on the side of 'if you must be a Warden you may as well enjoy the prestige but it sucks. A lot. Unless your life sucks more or you'll die without joining, don't. And once you're a big hero who ended the Blight take the chance to escape such a dull and horrible life.' Really, if my Wardens weren't so good at fighting and Duncan wasn't desperate, I doubt he'd try to recruit any of them...

This is true. I kinda wrote it as if Fergus was initially the heir because that's How Things Work, but that could be Bryce's plan - make her the heir to Highever, and then no one will question her past as much. Yeah, I could see that as being why he rejects Duncan's offer initially. "Thanks, but no thanks, *I* will handle my family's business" etc etc.

Of course they're officially supposed to do so (give up their names I mean) but we see how well THAT works. Bryce could still say "Elisara was recruited into the Grey Wardens" and avoid having to try and find a Cousland-worthy match for her. It's still seen as an honorable calling to those who don't know better, so no one would think it a bad thing.

See, now look what y'all have done!  I finished my chapter FINALLY OMG SLOWEST UPDATE EVAR.

And I included the fluffy (meaning light on plot, not fluffy sex) scene, mostly for the Daveth lulz.  Because I <3 him so.

Once it gets Wonder Twined, er, I mean betaed, I'll posty-posty. :happy:
