I loathe writing Leliana, though. I'm still kinda wishing I edited her out completely. I can't get her voice down properly.

So, is there anything you guys really like seeing in a review? I've had a particular reviewer today leave me some comments that have me waving my writer's wang around madly. They involved the word "lyrical" and an admission of tears. Is it bad that whenever someone tells me my writing made them cry I get a stiffy over it? (I don't mean that literally, just--it pleases me way too much)
I love seeing any comments along the lines of "This chapter made me feel xxx!" Anything that evokes an emotion, anything that results in a feeling. Because if my characters aren't moving anyone to anger, laughter, tears, satisfaction, anticipation...then I'm doing it wrong.
It's a very good feeling when someone leaves a review saying they cried, punched the air and cheered, or just wanted to reach into the story to b!tchslap a character.

I haven't tried writing very much of Leliana, but from what little I've read of her in the fandom make her a bit more...girly, giggly and flighty than I imagine her to be. I'll have to try and read your take on her after work.

If I'm looking for constructive criticism (which is how my brain parses 'review'), then specifics. The more specific, the better.
I liked it -->
I liked it, it was funny! --> Glad you liked the humor, thanks!
You've got a good sense of timing and comedic rhythm in your dialogue. The Internet slang put me off at first, but I came around to it; glad the Companions didn't indulge, though. Some of the original material you inserted seemed really long compared to most of the dialogue snippets; I'd have tried to use several shorter ones (or just edit down the ones you have?) to maintain the overall rhythm of the dialogues. -->

I like when people tell me I'm in-character, but I think I actually prefer compliments about the OCs since to me it's a bit harder to create a unique character that's got some amount of depth and complexity to them than it is to mimic the style of someone else's creation.
I like specifics most of all, though. Line x made me laugh, I like how you handled situiation Y, this specific scene was well done, this bit of dialogue was realistic, things like that.

I love reading that I moved someone emotionally too. And I love reading that someone found my epic fic and read the whole thing in one sitting and looking up at where it ends for the moment to find they had read until the wee hours of the morning and didn't realize it. Those both really boost my ego, and I wind up grinning from ear to ear. Also the PM reviews where people beg me not to stop ( I guess there are more stories out there that stop suddenly and never start up again).
Yeah reviews are addictive.
OMG, I love that. Especially waking up and seeing like thirty new reviews since they were commenting on almost every chapter as they read. That's like Christmas!
(Having a xmas like day today since my roommate gave me my birthday gift a week early because it arrived today. After wanting one for years I finally have a blade runner umbrella. I can't wait for rain! had to share since that's seriously the coolest umbrella ever.)

@Gil- thanks! I'm a bit edgy about getting older, but I got ID's today when I bought beer, so that made me feel pretty good.

My roommate is the best. We've been friends for something like ten years, he's totally the silent bob to my jay. I suspect thinkgeek.com may be the only ones who sell the umbrellas, but they're REALLY good with shipping. A friend of ours in Japan has ordered from them without any complaints. (I've bought so much from them over the years, but that's all domestic shipping)

Crikey, Lupus, the last time I got ID'd for drinks I was 24 and hanging with a friend of mine who's the same age but looks about sixteen (he still does, even though he's now in his mid-thirties..)
I was pretty chuffed then too!
I'll just be over here, with my walking frame.

"I love Missa so much, thanks for making her."
"Your Original Characters are amazing."
"You made me weep/cry."
"I liked *plot point here* what are you going to do about ____?"
Reviews which make me rage:
"Your character is a bit of a **** lol"
"Why isn't she with Alistair?"
Reviews which make me chuckle, point my fingers like a Bond villain and gloat:
"You've made me like dwarves."

"Little did i know when i clicked on chapter 1 with zero expectations that I would be reading one of the best stories I've ever read in the last few years. I've been thinking about why your story is so striking, and part of it to me is the way you excel at establishing emotional empathy with the characters."
It makes me happy.

QFT.
I got a review for one of my ME2 fics calling my Shepard a badass. Since she's bat**** insane (my Shepard, not the reviewer), I had to grin.
And the reviews that tell me they wished I'd written for the games I write for make me feel all warm and happy down to my toes.

Edit: I really hate the idea of 'fixing' someone as, to begin with, I don't think you can 'fix' other people. Not to mention that makes her sound more like his goodwill project than a LI.

I had a review that used lyrical in it once before and I squee'd (and I do not squee). The reviews that get me all excited are the ones where folks tell me I'm doing the characters justice, I'm evoking the emotions I want to evoke and with my awakening fic, that I'm filling gap the game was missing.
Though really, one that got me super excited recently was one where someone mentioned if Awakening had been written more like my story, they would have played it more than once. I'm hoping that was a compliment
Anyway, there is nothing wrong with your writer's peen getting all stiff and throbby over reviews and tears. Tears make the writer's wang grow. I joke with one writer that for every review she gets with someone admitting tears, she gets to make another notch on her fangirl stick.
