Um library on the first floor of the Tower.

There's the other one on the second floor, where you meet Sweeney, Niall, and Duncan if you're doing the mage origin.
I always fudge the floors for the tower, though.  I mean, look at the place.  No way is it just four stories high.  Maybe there are four floors of apprentice quarters, four floors of mage quarters, a couple stories of the classrooms we never see, and so on.  They just limit it to a floor of each for gameplay mechanics (and because a ten story building of identical floors would be dull gameplay-wise)

Yeah, it's been really weird, at least in the DA section. It disagrees about whether 'Victory in my pants' was the last story updated two days ago, whether some stories that I click on when it actually shows the right date actually exist, whether the reviews exist, whether my story has sixteen or seventeen chapters...it's all very annoying.

Edit: Especially so as I found a rare Aeducan/Gorim fic last night and it took two freaking hours for the site to let me see it. Posted Image

When all else fails I grab one of these at random:
1. darkspawn attack!
2. everyone get drunk! (I had the same problem in my orzammar section. solution? ****faced wardens singing at Tapsters!)
3. smut smut smut!

I just used a combat sequence as a shameless plot device to slow my character down in the last section, so I'll avoid that and smut doesn't feel right.  #2--that could be interesting, but with my protagonist, it might get maudlin.  Maybe I'll just dispense with Orzammar quickly (as Corker suggested) and move on to Jader.  I have a tavern scene planned there, anyway.

This is why I archive on AO3. Almost no one reads there, but I worry one day ff.net will just... stop working. It seems like their servers are constantly screwed up.

I wonder if they started charging to have a full membership like Live Journal or DevArt whether they might be able to afford to maintain the servers better, instead of sticking 'em together with double-sided tape. Although would you pay a few dollars a month to have a full membership?

That would be horrible. I can just imagine how my parents would react to me asking them to pay for membership to a site they think's a waste of time anyway...Posted Image

Depends on how much the membership was, and how much it improved the site. hehe.

Depends on how much. I might if it was cheap. I wouldn't feel so bad about using adblock then. ;)

I'm sure if they ever did offer pay they would keep the free option as well. Maybe pay would get no adds, or thirty documents instead of fifteen, or something inconsequential that doesn't make it any more functional, just less annoying. I can't fathom an all-pay model ever working given how many people use the site who wouldn't be old enough to have their own credit cards and so on.

How To Write Like Soignee, in 15 drunk easy steps...

Ha!  That was great.  Maybe I should follow those steps to literary success.  Gin's not really my beverage of choice, though.  Is wine too weak to yield the desired results?  Maybe brandy or irish whiskey?

Seriously, though...what do you do (addressed to all the more experienced and skilled fan fic writers, not just Soignee) when you have to write a section that you just can't think of anything interesting to do with?  The logic of my story requires the narrator to stop in Orzammar, for the night to warm up after his ordeal in the pass and get his armor repaired.  I was thinking he could stop in to Tapsters and chat with Lord Helmi about the new king (Harrowmont's already dead) and the Orzammar Circle.  But it's just feeling really flat.  I guess I could just skip straight to Jader and write a couple paragraphs explaining that I went to Orzammar (maybe with the intent of coming back later and refashioning it), but I kind of feel that I should do more with it.

I think Lupus has made some good suggestions, can I add another?  Flashback, dude.  How did your warden meet Alistair, what were his first impressions of him?  What did he think of his lousy jokes?

Yes.  That's my impression too, I've set my scene in the library on the second floor it seems more grown up...

Now another... 'I'm away from my usual sources of information' kind of question.  In the Thedas calendar what month comes after Molioris/Bloomingtide?

PS This is not a trick question!

Justinian is the month after Bloomingtide. I knew the RPG had to come in useful for something :)

Ooh ooh ooh!

I was just wondering what the months in the Thedas calendar were myself.  Where can I haz this info?  (and the approximate date of satinalia, the days of the week, how MANY days are in the week, etc...) ?

It was in the RPG player's book. (OR the DM manual, can't recall). I admit, I added it to the wiki. Got sick of having to dig through PDFs whenever I needed the info. I freaking swear by that wiki, I don't think I can go a single chapter without looking something up.

No idea where the high month names came from, though. Maria?

Thanks, and I don't like their calendar. I put Saturnalia as April Fools. And they put it in October? Not a Halloween, or even a harvest type festival. Makes no sense, and it means I messed up my friggin' Fic. To borrow from soignee (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery isn't it?), ffffffffffffffffffffffff.

It's going to take me forever to read through this topic, but I just want to say.... well... I'm inspired by Dragon Age Origins like I haven't been in a couple of years. I'm taking a break from my on going nonpublished work of fantasy fiction (that I've been working on for more years than I'm willing to tell because it will age me, suffice to say I started it when I was 20 or so) to play through dragon age and I have decided what better way to express my artistic side by posting my dragon age origins writings and diaries. The few fan fiction stories I've read so far have been outstanding. I love seeing how differently people saw and continue to see the warden story. I can understand the need some might have to reviews. I think encouragement goes much further than negative comments. I'm not writing fan fiction to sell. I'm writing to express myself. I look forward to wading through this post. A few pages at a time is all I'm willing to do, because frankly I'm too busy having a blast playing and writing about dragon age origins. L2A
