Well, strictly speaking, he just says it's good that they're infertile.  I wouldn't expect the darkspawn to do a full roster of fertility tests before creating a broodmother.  They just might be dimly confused when no lil baby darkspawn show up.  So if all you need is the body horror of being transformed, you could still be good to go.

Don't think so. Broodmothers become like that because they are fed darkspawn flesh, if I remember correctly. While that is disgusting and revolting in itself, Grey Wardens are imune to the taint, so they wouldn't really go through any mutation.

According to Gaider, broodmothers are (female) ghouls who have had their taint artificially accellerated. I suspect that Grey Wardens could still go through this mutation if darkspawn subjected them to the flesh/bile/whatever treatment, although it would not result in any darkspawn kiddies.

Whether or not darkspawn recognise that a female Grey Warden cannot reproduce (thus not worth the bother) is a matter of debate.

Yes, I'm sure "Eighth day she grew, as in her mouth is spume" is quite relevant, yes? :P

Inside Corker's head:

Well, you can always say "It's magic!" and anything works.

Could they tell if non-GW females were also infertile?

"Next on I Want a Baby, Dr. Spawn reveals to Mandy and John his psychic evaluation of Mandy's fertility."

"Queen Anora, a moment of your time, please?  It's for the good of Ferelden."

Couldn't the darkspawn sense the taint in the Wardens, notice they're not a ghoul, and not bother with it? Not to mention that Utha had her taint accelerated and isn't a broodmother although I suppose that might be due to an Architect experiment.

Either way, I don't think the Warden would necessarily know that they can't become a broodmother so it can still be a valid fear.

Edit: I am curious as to how the darkspawn discovered how to turn someone into a broodmother in the first place. I mean, it seems like kind of a complicated process to have just been found out accidentally and much too complicated to be just following their instincts.

Termite mounds.

Waggle dance.

Insects do some pretty complicated stuff by instinct.  Wasps, in particular, do some pretty messed up stuff to reproduce (laying eggs inside living insects, paralyzing live prey and leaving it for baby wasps to eat).  One assumes that whatever created the darkspawn also gave them the instincts to reproduce.

Interestingly, in at least one case, their instincts are not very robust.  The wasp drags crickets by the antenna, for instance.  If there are no antenna, it cannot 'decide' to drag by a leg instead.  It just cannot drag that cricket anywhere.  That leans me towards darkspawn programming like "If (estrogen present) then (begin broodmother process)" buuut it ain't canon.

I love beer with honey in it. (but then, I also love mead. but then, I just love alcohol in general.) My current summer beer is Yuengling, mostly since I can't afford La Fin Du Monde regularly these days.

I hate ff.net right now. Every review I've gotten since the 17th is only showing when I go into the story stats section, not on the main review page.

Honeybees also so some complicated things by instinct.

And I say that female Grey Wardens can be turned into broodmothers, they never say a Grey Warden can't get pregnant, in fact Fiona mentions that they can in Mr. Gaider's book. It just is damned difficult (Yes I know the people who HATE Grey Wardens getting pregnant crowd will be all over me) and should it happen, they are not allowed to raise their own kids. Hence her finding someone else to raise him before the Grey could do it for her.

Gaider has said that two wardens together could never have a child, though. So while Fiona, who hasn't been a Warden terribly long, can have Maric's child, she could never have one with, say, Duncan. So perhaps the corruption that keeps two Wardens from breeding together would be the same reason a female Warden can't become a broodmother?

I actually had that come up in my fic, with the added thought that when most Wardens get the Calling they would be in their fifties at least, and well beyond the years of peak fertility if not already going through or beyond menopause. I made the consensus "yeah, but darkspawn aren't smart, and do you really want to risk them trying anyways?"

I got the impression that the process involved more than feeding women darkspawn flesh, though. When Hespeth used the word "violate" I jumped to a far more disturbing conclusion.

My latest chapter has been disappearing intermittently since I posted it on the 17th, I've gotten no reviews since a few hours after it went up  (which I only care about since someone actually sent me an email and was like "I left a review, but I don't see it!") and my avatar has only updated on my profile page, but not my actual story pages. This last one only annoys me because I believe it's a symptom of a larger issue (that larger issue being that Something Wonky is Happening and it makes me want to withhold my next update until I know that it will be, at the very least, consistently accessible).

Re: Female Grey Wardens becoming Broodmothers

My opinion is that, while it probably wouldn't happen, my ladies are not even going to risk it. At most they'll do something symbolic like stay at an inn in Orzammar where they'll die via poison, hopefully with their lover beside them. I figure that they killed more darkspawn in one month than most Grey Wardens kill in their entire lifetime, if they want to avoid the whole uncertain Deep Roads thing then that's their right.

He actually said that it's not impossible, but they'd need some kind of magical assistance.

Yeah, my Warden will get a little assist from magic (*cough* Avernus *cough*, if he could live damn near what two generations long? Yeah, I think his little potion that my Warden just tilts back and chugs may have something to do with it, and not being a Warden very long before she does, at least that is how I am fixing it magically), in her prequel to her epic (which is giving me fits with a transitional chatper, ACK).

And yummmmm ....honey.Posted ImagePosted Image

LOL Chug chug the potion. MMMmm nothing like trying to oft yourself with multiple concoctions. I'm surprised Alistair didn't say, "Wait! Don't drink that! Remember the last thing you drank... bad dreams... archdemon nightmares..." LOL

10 years in the future.
King Alistair: Wait don't drink that it's a poison... Why do you keep doing that? Haven't you learned not to just drink things, yet?
Hero: Mmmm tastes like honey.

You know, my chapter is finally in beta just in time for me to publish all the crap going on ffnet.

I hate you.
I love you.
I can't quit you.
But can I kill you?

aaaaarrrrgh.  In other news, I got more fanart done.  I swear, fanart is like the ultimate fluffy happy review.  You can see it here.

And I just noticed something weird. Anyone else not able to view the list of topics for this forum? I'm getting that I am not authorized, which is weird because I can certainly post here just fine.

It's been popping up like that for me all day. Totally random things. Sometimes I can see this thread, sometimes I'm not allowed in Community Creations at all, sometimes I can't reply to myself in the thread I started.

Today has just been aggravating all around. The high from the Love Meme is gone, guys. You can stop trying.

Well I haven't had that problem but I do keep getting signed out on the Forum and in the game, so I just keep logging in again. Frusterating but at least the game tells me when I lose connection. But earlier I made a post, but it didn't appear for me right off. The Gremlins are at work again I'm sure. Who fed them after hours?! hehe
