Re: Female Grey Wardens becoming Broodmothers

My opinion is that, while it probably wouldn't happen, my ladies are not even going to risk it. At most they'll do something symbolic like stay at an inn in Orzammar where they'll die via poison, hopefully with their lover beside them. I figure that they killed more darkspawn in one month than most Grey Wardens kill in their entire lifetime, if they want to avoid the whole uncertain Deep Roads thing then that's their right.

Absolutely... Times change and less and less wardens are going to be in accord with the traditional but potentially messy  Orzammar final solution every day.   Have they not already suffered enough, sacrificed enough? My take on this is give me euthanasia in a Swiss clinic every time... Oh! Soz, that's RL in the UK...

You know, my chapter is finally in beta just in time for me to publish all the crap going on ffnet.

I hate you.
I love you.
I can't quit you.
But can I kill you?

aaaaarrrrgh.  In other news, I got more fanart done.  I swear, fanart is like the ultimate fluffy happy review.  You can see it here.

I have Tas. And WOOT for the ultimate in fluffy review! Nice fanart! *does happy dance of sublime joy for Tas*Posted Image

And  yeah that is why when Kai met Andraste in the Fade, she said she would not go back to the Deep Roads for her calling.  She would stick her head in a dwarven lava channel, or drink poison, anything but going out fighting more Blighty Babies.  Posted Image

This.  My Warden is going to find some way to die on the surface, becuase he's terrified of surviving down there.  I mean, the Warden is really badass by the time all is said and done, shouldn't that be a real fear?

That fanart, by the way, is awesome.  Always the best reviews, those.

re: Calling...

Not to mention, if the Warden is a monarch, how would they even manage to slip away from the palace, guards, and everything else to just... march off to die? It seems like someone would notice if the king and/or queen up and disappeared. If they never returned someone could suspect foul play, kidnapping, etc. It would be a huge disaster.

That's why they abdicate the throne, get their chosen heir approved (whether it's a relative or not), and THEN go wander off to die. They could even announce that they're dying and planning on going out fighting.

Of course, my Warden might as well die in the Deep Roads since she's going to be living in Orzamamr anyway and it really is a part of her culture that if you're going to die down there it's an honorable thing to do. She could go out with an expedition or the legion, though.

I don't give a damn how dishonorable it is, if I hadn't gotten rid of the taint, Kai would have given the two fingered salute and drank poison instead. Ffffffff the Deep Roads, hate that place.

My Alistair and Miranda blew themselves up in a broodmother nest. I figured they needed the certainty of death but wanted to take out as many darkspawn as they could at the same time. Hooray for Gworkin!

I'm not saying that you should. Mine would, though, especially since she was supposed to go off and get herself killed fighting darkspawn anyway but kind of put that off for thirty years. She'd want to do some good and help protect her home instead of outright committing suicide.

Edit: Unless you're a dwarf it wouldn't be a cultural norm to seek an honorable suicide in the Deep Roads, if you're a casteless you wouldn't necessarily care about such things, and even a dwarf noble doesn't have to still keep the beliefs of his/her youth.

Maybe all the lost updates and reviews on ffnet are just that....lost at sea.

Updated today and while my update is showing up (and I suppose I should feel lucky for that), reviews I got over the last couple days are gone.

Either way, I don't think the Warden would necessarily know that they can't become a broodmother so it can still be a valid fear.

Oh, definitely! If anything, the best the Grey Wardens can officially say is they've never seen one of their own suffer that fate. I doubt they've deliberately tried to see if it's *possible*, and I still think the whole broodmother thing is the main reason why there are fewer female Grey Wardens.

I am curious as to how the darkspawn discovered how to turn someone into a broodmother in the first place. I mean, it seems like kind of a complicated process to have just been found out accidentally and much too complicated to be just following their instincts.

The archdemon, maybe? Darkspawn instincts can be directed if necessary.

And I have a bigger issue with how the first Grey Wardens became Grey Wardens and figured out how their taint would enable them to kill the archdemon.

Well, dragon cults were a lot more common back then, right? Maybe a group of people decided to use the Archdemon blood instead of a normal dragon and once they felt they were stronger from their primitive Joining they went after the Archdemon again and this time the killing stuck. They all died but they had followers who knew they had to drink Archdemon blood and over time the Joining became more refined and only a drop or so of Archdemon blood became necessary.

I am thinking of writing a Fanfic (first one ever) but need to know some things first.

Is there anyplace or person who can beta-read my work?

Are their guidlines as to what can and cannot be posted here (already know the Fanfiction.net ones)

If anyone wants I would be willing to bounce Ideas off of them to flesh things out or give some insight into topics.

Thanks in advance.

@Tasmen: Same here. I can see the number if I go to story stats, but the last eight I've gotten have just... vanished.
Maybe ff.net is haunted?

And I just finished a chapter. Not sure if I should even bother updating yet.

Since it hasent been covered I want to write a Human Barbarian based Origin.

And no I dont think it will be romance based, it may have one but it wont be the focus of it. I am trying to tie down the:

Culture itself (avaars have no intel at all)

Charachters

PC

Origin.

Once I can get those tied down, the rest will be easy.

I had a whole chapter disappear on FF.net. It came back. But no one could read it in the public domain. It was in my document manager.

@Giggles, sweetie there is a search for betas on FF.net if you post there. And asking here is a good start for finding a beta (I wouldn't recommend the resident troll who offered. They claim to read but I wouldn't bank on it. They show up from time to time and try to get people to feed them).

As to guidelines read the top thread here that says "Please read this post first" for that. And you can have links put in the listing thread. Bouncing ideas can be done here, and this thread is a support thread ( like I said don't mind our pet troll).

Still in beta, since I am fleshing out an Origin, and how exactly the PC will join the wardens.

Does anyone know which culture the Avaars are supposedly based around?
