Looks like Avvars (two v's) may have been based around the Avar an old nomadic group in Europe in fact. However I am going into a more Celtic/Germanic take on them being in the mountains and all.

They sound like Vikings to me. Or the ancient Gauls.

I think you are right Giggles.  More Celtic/Gaul  barbarian rather then Viking.

David Gaider said at one point they were based around the Scottish Highlanders.

You do see a bit more of their culture in The Calling since one of the Wardens, Kell, is an Avvar.

Post in question is here

I really wanted to do this since the Avvar are Alamarri, or the very first Fereldens, meaning that an Avvar are really like walking history.

Also I am going to try and avoid to many Conan references.

Now I just need a name, Vergerund is one that pops up although pronouncing such guteral words is a pain.

You can also find out some things in Awakening with the Avvar shrine in the basement of the Keep and the two Avvar brother-statues in Wending Woods.

Well most of it is getting tied down, I have decided to tie in the HN origin as well though.

Names I am bouncing around are Sigvard, Wilhelm, and Dalek.

I think I will go with Sigvard.

If you go with Dalek the Dr Who fans will laugh at you. ;)

I suggest searching the Wiki for information if you haven't. :)

So... Grey Wardens can sense darkspawn... and Duncan was able to sense the taint in the dalish origins pc... so would it make sense that Grey Wardens would be able to sense each other. Avernus says he could... I'm putting it in my story anyways, but I was just wondering what others thoughts on it are. :)

Yes, I think Grey Wardens can sense each other too.  I'm pretty sure it's never been confirmed by devs...I just passed my copy of the Calling on to someone else so I can't check for you, but that's always been my take on it.

Mine, too. Though in someplace like Weisshaupt, I'd guess it becomes like white noise. Too many around to differentiate.

I think so...remember that even Rukh was able to sense the warden. I wonder if individuals who know each other especially well (e.g. the Warden and Alistair ) could recognize their particular presence or whether taint is taint.

Heh probably Grey Warden is different than regular taint but we'll leave that up to our imaginations. LOL

I'll toss in my agreement.

Also, I think my love affair with True Blood is impacting my fic. I just feel compelled to up the crazy every time I can. The next chapter? Wow, crazytown. Even compared to the crazy-bomb I had dropped on them in the last chapter. I need to remember "how can I make readers go 'holy crap'" is not a proper writing method.

Last month we watched the entire first two seasons of True Blood within two week. Holy crap, all my characters sounded like they were from Louisiana in my head. I even had several Anders/Bill moments and thought I was going to have to just stop writing. It's one of the reasons I forced myself to replay Awakening.

And I don't know if "how can I make readers go 'holy crap'" is a proper writing method, but Lost proved "how can I make viewers go 'WTF?'" is. I say run with it.

Was anybody else totally creeped out when Rukh told them he could see the corruption in them or however he phrased it? Between Rukh and Hespith, I found the Deep Roads the most disturbing part of the game.

I know what you mean though playing a female character and being callled a 'pretty lady' by Rukh was creepy too... It was sad what happened to him though :(

I was wondering whether certain mages wouldn't be able to pick up the taint in GWs for example Dalish keepers or those who have studied the Fade...

The Chasind doomsayer in Lothering also calls you a servant of the darkness, or some such thing, implying that he can sense your taint.  My Wardens generally neither confirm nor deny the charges.

I'm about to complete a 280 page fan fiction. I'm pleased with it, but I'll be glad to see it come to an end. Finally I'll be able to start my original novel properly.

Good point.  So certain non-warden sensitives may be able to pick it up then...

Yeah, I definitely think so.  Isabela in the Pearl notices too.  You know, that line that's something like, "There's somethin g ... odd ... about you," when she says straight off you're a warden.  I always presumed that it was smell or an ability to sense the taint or whatever.

Oh, man.  The broodmother was the scariest monster for me in the whole game.  Dragons were NOTHING compared to her.
