I had a basic outline anyway, knowing that this story would have more elements to it than the one that precedes it. Plus, I needed an outline for Moments.
I wrote out the basic idea of what I want to do with these thoughts that are nagging at me so I don't forget the important bits.
Thanks for the help guys!

Here's the thing: I've written a story some 7,000 and I would like to publish it in two parts of approximate equal length, I think the first part is pretty atmospheric and sets the scene well but the intrigue doesn't start until the second. If I incorporate the first part of the intrigue then the parts will no longer be equal but rather lopsided, the first being longer than the second... If you've had the patience to read thus far, what would you advise?
Hmm... do you need to break it up? Or are you worried it'd be too long?
I've seen one-shots up to 10k words reasonably frequently, and occasionally a 20k one-shot. If you're setting a scene, I'd imagine you want it posted with the intrigue so that they read together.
If you're definite on breaking it up, I'd say at least hint at the intrigue in the first part, to make your readers want to come to a resolution on the second. They might be unequal length but if you're not going to be going 6k/1k words or something completely lopsided it shouldn't be too bad.
But that's me. It might not work for your story.

I wonder how you can really a judge a great artwork against a great story.
A lot of factors, really, but what it comes down to is skill, effort and originality.
It helps that Herr, Aimo and I have slightly different tastes in art and stories, so we can debate!

EDIT
Nevermind, decided on Zeno, a form of Zenos, which means Gift of Zeus in Greek. So, gift of the Maker then? Sounds a bit corny doesn't it?

For whatever the heck this is worth (which may not be much in this context): Kingdom of Atlantia Arts and Sciences judging forms. We frequently have to judge a poem versus an illuminated manuscript page versus a dress versus a helmet. Scroll down to see some of the different categories and whatnot.
Since our concerns are very different (e.g., documentation? not so much. Authenticity or adherence to lore? Maybe!) I wouldn't expect that these sheets would port directly over, but if you are looking for a quantitative way to help tally points, they might be helpful as models.

Would remind me either of a paradox or a warrior princess. Would it be sacreligious to name him Hessarion?
ETA: What was Andraste's elven sidekick's name? Shartan? I mean, if your main is the kind of guy who'd think that's funny.

Ugh, okay. I'm having a problem - My mind refuses to stop mapping out a part of the story near the end and I'm nowhere near that point. I have a lot of ground to cover before I get to the events that are working themselves out in my head.
I can't decide whether to just write this part out and save it for later, knowing that it's likely to need major revision by the time I get to it, or to just plow ahead and try to write the part I'm working on now.
aaaaaaargh!
This happens to me all the time. I would definately write it as it comes. And what you need to modify it to meet how your story progressed? That's not so hard, right? Better to write it down now than to pull your hair out trying to recapture your muse on it

Hello creative types.
Would you like your own personalised Aimo and Soignee coloured artwork of a character of your choice? What's that, YOU DO?
Then enter our competition found[here]on Livejournal and [here] on Deviant Art. Happy creating!

Hm. I suppose now is as good a time as any to start writing that dwarf fic that's been living in my head.
Might I suggest posting this competition as a new thread, soignee, just so people see it? You could try asking LdyShayna to sticky it also.

That's a great idea! That'd work really well if you want to allow link postings in the forum that are relevant to the contest too.

Ah well I start writing tommorow, now that everything is nailed down. Finally got on the FF.net site.
Does anyone listen to any music while writing, or is silience golden.

So much of the writing process is so intensely personal. You just have to figure out what trips the triggers in your own brain that allows you to get to that really creative place where you can do these things.

You can write something Giggles! even bake a dwarf-shaped cake. We do not care, as long as you take part. <3

When I was younger I would listen to music when working, but I stopped doing that when I got older. As a musician, the background becomes the foreground and I end up focusing completely on the music and not getting anything else done.
Plus, the music going in my head ends up competing with everything else anyway, so I try to keep the cacophany down.
Looking forward to seeing your writing on ffnet!

Darnit and my muse hasn't hit me with any dwarf-y goodness. Course, the character I'd want is Moira with her two boys, but... *crumple* *Goes to beat some inspiration out of muse*
