Here I go off to write, the intro complete with Sigvard, Duncan, and some mountain scenery.

Already have a name ready: DRAGON AGE ORIGINS: MOUNTAIN BORN.

Soignee, I hope you don't mind but I'll be using your Dwarf swearing and slurs in my FIc, since they are just so appropriate.

That is ok with you, yes? I will, of course, try to add some of my own :innocent:

of course you sodding can!

Damn it, having a one-shot where Loghain lives and Alistair is King should not start a freaking Loghain debate where a reviewer keeps insisting how horrible a person I am for 'betraying' Alistair and everyone who died at Ostagar even IF it couldn't have been won! I have that discussion often enough here without random PM attacks. Posted Image

I mean, really, I don't review other peoples' stories telling them that marrying Alistiar, becoming his mistress, having him run off to be a GW, the Alistair/Aeducan pairing at all, having him break up with her and years later ask her to be Queen despite the fact that she still can't have his babies, putting a non-Cousland on the throne, ect. makes them horrible people betraying whatever so why bother me with things like that in a humor one-shot that doesn't even address the morality of any of it at all? Posted Image

On the interwebs people are not nice, since there is no social interaction. SO they lack a filter that you should have IRL.

Also my first chapter is almost done, I decided to take a Tolkien approach and avoid getting in my PC's head. At least certain scenes will be first person, while most of it will be told by a narrator. Works fairly well and lets me say stuff quicker.

Also how is this for a little intro drab:
The mountains are our home
They are a cradle, as well as a fortress
Korth holds us up, as Hakkon watches over us
While their children guide us the Avvar
Remember this and be comforted

Thanks honey , my Tabris-smitten Faren Broska is grateful.

Yes, that's something that happens in chapter 9 of my beloved story.:?

It is unreasonable to have to deal with criticisms of your choice of content, if people don't like the tale you have chosen to tell then there is something very simple they can do: Stop reading.

Yeah, Sarah, that's totally out of line! Silly reviewer.

@Giggles, I love that little poem, it's very evocative.

*pats* :/ Ok, random (and repetitive?) PM attacks are not nice. If it's abusive and they're registered to the site, report them. (I think you HAVE to be registered to PM, right?) Don't reply to them, or block them if you can. Seriously, it'll just get under your skin and put you in a bad mood if they keep trolling you.

I am endlessly amazed that readers will take the actions and thoughts of fictional characters and assume that because you are the writer (and in some small way, the PC), you must agree with/condone what you've written. So I love reviewers who say "Your PC is an idiot!" rather than "YOU are an idiot!". There's a big difference in my book, because the first makes me go "squee". ;)

And even if you do agree with your PC's actions/thoughts, is there really any call for being lambasted? o_O It's fanfiction! If all of the stories out there followed one 'true and right' path of righteousness and justice and true love then I think things would get a) boring and B) predictable.

This story's for you, Shadow.  :D

Once upon a time, there was a Warden. Ser Warden joined just before Ostagar and managed to survive the battle.

Ser Warden made all the right choices, fell in love, had sexy time with the hottest people there, kicked some major tooshie at the Landsmeet, and then slew the Archdemon. Whee!

And then Ser Warden lived happily ever after. And all the fanfiction readers were happy.

Ah, but what about the DR? Did Ser Warden manage to catch Riordan as he fell off the Archdemon and so he insisted on being the one to actually slay it but everyone forgot about him because Ser Warden was just so much better and not Orlesian? Posted Image

Thanks again.

In general, I don't like having chapters that are shorter than 3K although my main DA one has much longer chapters.

Edit: Although, of course, I'm sure someone else will mention that if you're done with what you want to do that chapter don't force yourself to stretch it out a couple hundred more words.

Nooo! Ser Warden was the one who ran off alone, leaving Riordan to go with Alistair and the party! Meaning Ser Warden, in all his awesomeness, leapt atop the flying archdemon, vanquished it, then glided the winged corpse down to a safe landing.

And there was much rejoicing. ;)

(OMG we should totally write a spoof.)

I wish I were awesome and righteous enough to kill the Archdemon sans DR and live to tell the tale like Ser Warden...

For readability (well, and correctness, but mostly readability), put a comma after the "us" above.  Otherwise, I like it!

Thanks Corker.

I am following the Tolkien model of writing, where the story is being TOLD to more than read by a person. Almost done the intro, but I am still tweaking a few things here and there.

Good lord what have I stumbled into? :)

Fanfiction is a strange beast that's for certain. For my writing I haven't gotten many reviews compared to its length (or the amount of hits its had) but I'm used to that. I also suspect the types of story I'm telling may have something to do with that. Not that I'm too bothered. I'm having far too much fun writing what I am.

If you write various characters long enough you can 'speak' in their voice, get inside their heads and many time they will tell you where they want the story to go. I've had that happen often enough :)

Sweet I just posted my fic, and now off to bed since I am seeing Inception tomorrow.

FF.net still wont let me publish it, so its on here.

Also the DA wiki, wikipedia, and various books I have on barbarians have all be helpful.

Useless triva: In older cultures children (male ones) often had the -son suffiex added. So if Sigvard had a son he could call him Sigvardson. You have just been knowledged.

Why can't you publish it on ff.net? Is there a waiting period or something? I joined so long ago I don't even remember.

And Inception was amazing. And full of very pretty people. Posted Image

I just wanted to note that many people are faced with that horrid formatting screw-up when you paste something in the post reply console. This is the solution:

Click on the BBC Code button up on the right. Then paste, then click on it again.

Formatting will be preserved and you won't have to spend the next half hour editing the post.
