I just wanted to note that many people are faced with that horrid formatting screw-up when you paste something in the post reply console. This is the solution:

Click on the BBC Code button up on the right. Then paste, then click on it again.

Formatting will be preserved and you won't have to spend the next half hour editing the post.

hmmm I'll definately have to give this a try. Thanks :)

This story's for you, Shadow. :D

Once upon a time, there was a Warden.  Ser Warden joined just before Ostagar and managed to survive the battle.

Ser Warden made all the right choices, fell in love, had sexy time with the hottest people there, kicked some major tooshie at the Landsmeet, and then slew the Archdemon.  Whee!

And then Ser Warden lived happily ever after.  And all the fanfiction readers were happy.

Ah, but what about the DR? Did Ser Warden manage to catch Riordan as he fell off the Archdemon and so he insisted on being the one to actually slay it but everyone forgot about him because Ser Warden was just so much better and not Orlesian? Posted Image

Nooo! Ser Warden was the one who ran off alone, leaving Riordan to go with Alistair and the party! Meaning Ser Warden, in all his awesomeness, leapt atop the flying archdemon, vanquished it, then glided the winged corpse down to a safe landing.

And there was much rejoicing. ;)

(OMG we should totally write a spoof.)

Laugh!  It could be fun!

Oh great so I get done writing this major emotional scene (didn't sniffle once) and a quick journal entry and then I head back in game to do some quests in Orzammar. I ran across the conversational trigger and Alistair and Leliana started talking about leaving all the people in Lothering now I'm about ready to start crying. The timing is creepy to say the least. LOL I'm such a girl. LOL

I wish I were awesome and righteous enough to kill the Archdemon sans DR and live to tell the tale like Ser Warden...

All the right decisions, Sarah.  All.  the right.  decisions.  :D

But yeah, totally awesome.  And Ser Warden didn't chip a nail or end up with gory hair.  How fabulous is that!

OMG, I need to make another playthrough and name my warden "Warden."

Because that way my cohorts will call me by name!

Thanks and about the whole naming your warden Warden that would be funny. "Meet our newest Grey Warden Warden." "Is there an echo in here?" LOL

Wow the waiting time is intense on FF.net, still about 12 hours before it will let me post.

Also this old book I had by David Eddings came in handy. In short he said break down and write out everything before you add it to the story. It actually helped a lot. Since I have:

Village Maps

Data on Highlanders, Galish, and Germaninc culture

Data on avvars and Alamarri which is very limited

Pictures of mountains to inspire

Family Trees

Charachter Bios and

some hand drawn pictures of people in game.

I have about 10 times the amout of work put into the foundation as I had to put into the intro,

Sounds like you're writing a novel, Giggles, not just a fic. :) Very thorough.

Why on earth does it take an agonising week to write 1,000 words, then a mere hour to write another 1,000? For the same story?

Stupid muse...

I'm impressed!  This sort of work always shows in the final, as long as the narrative is good (i.e. you don't try to cram all that good stuff in for its own sake).

The most helpful book I have is called:

Fighting Styles of the World.

While it is old it covers, not only the combat forms and weapons of cultures, but the culture and howit spawned them itself. The parts on Highlanders, Gauls, and Germans are very deep.

Mostly what I keep in mind is an old Tolkien quote: "What keeps a story going through time, is its ability to be told." I am trying to keep the stlye in a form that a story teller can use. So far it has worked out, with a hybrid betweeen Tolkien, and the Princess Bride.

So I just tried an experiment with writing in an old stlye:

Sorta of like someone telling the story in verse over a campfire. It works pretty well and I am planning to use it on certain points.

Also Fanfiction, for some reason moved my publishing block an hour back so I cant put it up on the site tonight. Tommorow I guess. Thats one good things about my job is the ability to think about my story, while either Line Trimming, weeding, or mulching.

I am having a break from writing until it becomes fun again. Until then, I am eating crayons and drawing comixes. Just because.

We should put both our muses in a room and let them beat up on each other. Mine's doing the same thing.

Because muses are snotty little brats that like to act like toddlers from time to time.  Mine right now is in the fully swing of the terrible twos along with my daughter.

Oooooh, can we make it a cage match?  TO THE DEATH!  That'd totally rock.

You all can have MY muse who is feeling quite mischievous at the moment. I'm a critical point in my story and basically everything that happens after this hinges on how I handle this one conversation and I am churning out iteration after iteration when I really just want something to grab my face and say "You know I'm right, now let's knock out ten to fifteen more chapters and call it a thing."

Let's make it a free-for-all and y'all can throw my muse in there as well. I'd really like to get the first few chapters good and solid so I can start getting my story beta'd by a friend and then up on ff.net, but my muse keeps leading me to all these random future scenes. Thus, I spent an entire weekend writing stuff that is basically months in the future fic-timeline-wise, but haven't gotten any further on the early parts (the fic basically starts with the Landsmeet duel and has stalled in the middle of an absolute quagmire back at camp that night)..Seems my brain would much rather write fun/fluff/whimsical/comedy scenes way down the road than finishing shoveling through the drama/angst of the start. lol Posted Image

*pets the poor picked on muses* Don't listen to them I won't let them cage match you. You give them it in a dream that fades when they wake. That'll teach those bullies. ROFLMAO
