By the STONE, I finally finished that chapter and it's the longest one I wrote so far (16,155 words LOL).

And i still haven't gotten to the background explanation.

Sigh...

Holy smokes Raonar! You may want to split it up? I know, I usually read at work, and I don't have the time to read 16 + words in one sitting.

Sia, LOL!

Wow!  I always feel like mine are too long when I go over 5,000 words!

LOL I have hit 8k and worried it might be a little longer than people have time to read.

I'm the short and sweet chapter girl - 2K each if I'm lucky. Sometimes only 1500.

Me too.  If I hit 3k words I'm usually like, "wow.  I wrote a LOT!"

I can only push 2k or more if it's destined for FF.net. I try to stick to 1500 for posting on this board.

For one-shots my goal is at least 1.5K. For chapter stories anything less than 3K feels too short. I'm not really a fan of, say, a story that's 10K and 10 chapters. I don't know why because it's not like there's any differnce between that and a story that's 2 chapters of 5K or 1 chapter that's the full 10K but it really puts me off and I probably won't read it because it would bug me far more than I could possibly enjoy the story.

I'm The Rambly One- 6k + seems to be my thing these days. Much past 8k and I'll halve it.

I fluctuate. But that isn't hard to do when you have 89 chapters and gong strong. I have written short chapters and 8k chapters. Hehe, just call me the yo yo.

For my main fic, the chapters are all about 3000 words. For my shorter weird one, they range anywhere from 1500ish to 3000, and these letters are running anywhere from 500-1000 words.

My two shorts are pretty different - the one that's already out is 3500 and I cut it down from what it could have been. The one I'm finishing up looks like it will be 2500ish, and actually contains dialog! If my other short had...it would have been 4000+ easily...

Mine seem to naturally gravitate to 2500-3000 words. I had one that was 6K but could easily have been halved. I like economical.

Yes, I don't usually go so far but I had to bring the story to a certain point. Though I suppose I could have split it in half, but still. Ah well...

Holy hit spike, Batman! o_O

I got a sudden rush of stats from FF.Net for The Hunt and realised it was from a plug on Aimo's DeviantArt page. Thing is, I've been wanting to link back to her (and her art) but FF.Net is notorious for erasing website addresses. I know I can get around it by inserting strategically placed spaces, but it feels so messy.

I know some of you guys have had fan art drawn for your stories, so do you link to it somehow?

(My other problem is I'd want to plug her art page from a new chapter, but the story is finished. Can I get away with a supplementary chapter, do you think? Or even chap 1 of the sequel?)

Link it in your profile page, and edit the story page to mention the link on your profile?

Random Question: Is it weird to immediately reply to a review you get? I'm not obsessively checking for them or anything but when I'm online my email account is open and I get an alert every time I get one so if I want to reply I can within a few minutes but sometimes people reply back commenting on how odd they find it that they get a reply, say, five minutes later. Should I wait to reply to make it less strange or just not care?

@Sandtigress - Good idea. I didn't know the profile can get around the link thing--I'll have to try it. Thanks. :)

EDIT: I *did* know since I already have a link in there, I just clean forgot. Duh... :P

@Sarah - Speaking for myself, I wouldn't care. :) I'd be surprised to get a reply really quickly, but not think it weird or anything.

I nearly always reply really quickly when I get a review - I sometimes think people think I'm weird, but then I have to acknowledge that I AM weird, so if they think so too, good on them!

Wait... you HAVE to reply? :P

Do people stop reviewing if you don't reply? Wait, come to think of it, maybe they would...

Okay....

*heads off to reply to those overdue reviews now*

I tend not to reply unless there are questions asked or useful advice given, or the review is reaaally big and it clearly took some time to write. :)

A 'general thanks' in author notes to show reviews are very much appreciated is usually how I do it (accompanied by a fresh chapter), but it is also nice to write individual replies. :) Some readers get a buzz out of it, so it doesn't hurt!

I like to reply individually. But I also don't get all that many reviews, so it's not hard for me to keep up. I don't know if it encourages more reviewing or not - it's just my thing :)

If anybody has trouble getting inspired for their writing just listen to John Williams music. I am serious there are songs for fighting, and a lot of stuff.

Although I have to bump my rating up to M after the last rough draft, where Sigvard takes on three people and dose some brutal moves in it.

Definitely good inspiration there! *suddenly has "Duel of the Fates" stuck in my head now*

I also highly recommend getting both Gladiator soundtracks (the original score and the "more music from..." CDs). Those are on repeat on my iPod almost constantly for writing, as there are tracks good for sad scenes, good for suspense scenes, and, of course, good for battle scenes. I swear, my entire Landsmeet duel scene for the fic I'm still baking was written almost entirely to "The Battle" track from the original Gladiator soundtrack! Posted Image

I reply at least once to every new reviewer. Or I try to. Which reminds me, I have some from over the weekend I need to take care of.

I have no art inspired by my fics, so... I have no idea about the crediting thing.

That's a good idea.  It hadn't even occurred to me. Just responded if people brought up criticisms I found thoughtful.
