I noticed I've not got any comments about my first part.. is it that bad??
Not at all. I've had my thread listing all my fics up for a couple months now. I get plenty of hits, but I think I've had a grand total of two people actually comment on it during that entire time. And the first one was "hey, just so you know, I'm reading this."
It looks like you've had 7 hits in just the first hour, so that's a good start.

The reason I haven't written anything dwarf-related (though I am working on something for the soingnee/aimo comp) is because I haven't had time to play either origin all the way through. I don't have all the info past Ostagar (I've resorted to Youtube for certain events), and I hate going into a world as rich with culture and history and intrigue as the dwarf kingdom feeling unprepared. I *know* there are hardcore dwarf fans out there (yes, I'm looking at *you*
I'm looking forward to finishing my competition piece, though. I love both the DN and DC origins.
But Female Human Noble, Alistair and Zevran got all my lovin' to date, for no other reason than that I played with them first and started writing them before I'd even finished a second Origin (CE).

I think I'll start to look into Shadow of Light Dragon's fics soon, seeing as how she seems to know her way around conveying feelings through words rather successfully. And she even got fanart recently, which is something.
Well, don't let the fanart convince you that The Hunt is worth reading--Aimo drew that piece for the magazine, not because she read/likes the fanfic (I don't know on either count).
@Gil - I just want to say that I really like 'Kaidana' as a name.

Noble+Alistair is definitely the most prevalent, and also the most popular it would seem. I confess to falling prey to the love of the first playthrough--or rather, the love of the first character. I replayed the game from the Landsmeet every time I could until deciding which outcome would be most fun to write from (Loghain sacrificed, romanced Alistair runaway, only Zevran offering to remain with the PC...wacky hijinks ensue!).

I *know* there are hardcore dwarf fans out there (yes, I'm looking at *you*), and while I'm pretty sure I won't get eaten alive for getting details wrong I'd rather not make mistakes in the first place. Knowing something I've written is half-baked wouldn't satisfy me, anyway.

I've seen some of the comments for that group about how they've never written/drawn anything dwarf-related before and I'm half-worried that someone like that will win. It's silly because it's not like they've never done any writing/drawing or even any DA writing/drawing before but the thought that it's their first dwarf thing and they 're just that good? Kind of a confidence-killer.Shadow of Light Dragon wrote...

@Oki - the PC isn't the black sheep of the Cousland family, but hopefully she won't be too disappointing.

@Tanith, I figured as much! I just missed you horribly!
@okiness, yes Shadow's "The Hunt", and "The Kill" are must reads. Really, read them! They are the shiz.

@okiness - you should read Gil's "Soulmates' as well - truly excellent. Her other work ("Whispering sighs of the Blade" and "The First Cut is Always the Deepest" are companion works and are good in their own right).

SOLD: ...ROFL YOUR NAME IS SOLD WHEN I ABBREVIATE IT OH MY GOD I AM SERIOUSLY LIKE LAUGHING I am so lame.
Well, usually it's just "Shadow of Light", and people laugh at "SOL" as well for the acronym that throws up. I can't win!
(Unfortunately I am too attached to it to change it, so laugh away!
But no, I don't like the black sheep aspect. I play it for laughs! Like I made a playthrough with my friend Kendall and she was horrible...I didn't even KNOW Bryce could do that. But err...if you phrase it like that, I'm ...sorry for offending people here? I didn't mean it anything like that. But...er..okay.......I feel slightly disheartened now for saying my extremely bossy opinion so I will surrender the thread back to the cool kids now.
Ack, if my comment came across as snarky then I apologise--I didn't mean it that way. It just sounded like you (vastly) prefer PCs who break the mould of being good/heroic, so I conceded mine might not be that interesting to you. Maybe we just both misread each other, as is wont to happen on the internetz.

What I want to know is why 'heroic' and 'good' so often translate to someone continuously angsting and on the verge of tears the whole story? Especially if the angsting is completly unnecessary and the Warden's getting herself all worked up over nothing! I'd much rather read about a stronger Warden than one that needs everyone in the party to hold her hand the whole Blight because she's just so sad.
Poor writing.
