Oh dear, now I all nervous. I admit to some sexy bits in my story. So far, everyone who reviews just tells me it hot and tastefully done, even keeping in a T rating. Though I since changed it to M but not for the sex, but the violence (It isn't really gory, just trying to be cautious for the kiddos). ;)

I am proud to say, no "quivering members" are anywhere in my story. And since I didn't have Tasmen's website, none of the other phrases either. But now...:o

So, now you're part of the "members only" club, Gil? I think my code word for you will now be "no members please" when I see too much Tasmen phrases...

ROFL! *tickles Ette*

Oh and a thumbs up for the chapters on your story! I gave a review FYI. Now you have to add saucy bits since you have the website from Tasmen.

Saucy bits? Woo...I'll have to debate on who gets those bits.

You know I don't get the FF rating system.  Mine is M for violence but I think it has far less of it than some of the T rated ones I've scanned.  Do you think you get more or less readers with M versus T?

Theoretically your potential audience is wider with a rating of T, but there will be people out there who look exclusively for mature-themed fiction, I guess. We're usually suckers for sauce. :)

But I have no sauce - just nuggets.  Am I down graded to T?

Yeah I debated putting it back. But I waver, I don't want to offend anyone or have angry parents. And I am probably being overly protective. I may put it back on T. I wasn't changing how I wrote, just being cautious.:?

But funny story, after I put it on M I couldn't see my story when I posted it. I emailed the FF people who politely pointed out, that I would have to set the search for on M myself and hit go to see it. *face palm.* And actually as I said in my author's notes on my last chapter. I need the PIcard and Riker face palm, because one face palm was just not enough. You may all laugh at me now.  I know I  did.

Yep...I've had my operator's errors on that site. Like how do other people reply to their reviews without sending a PM? Is there some magic button I don't know about that enables your reply to been viewed in the same review panel? Not that I don't like sending you PM's, Gil :-)

Gil, I did exactly the same thing. Twice. But about different filters.

*wipes brow* Well I really am in good company! I felt so silly. The FF people must have had a good laugh.

Hehe, no worries Ette! The FF site took me a while to figure out too. Ette, go to the persons' review and across from their name is a little icon that looks like a cartoon thought or talking bubble. Click on that and it will open up a pm box directly related to the review.

Yeah, but it won't make the comment to the review visible to other people. ;) That annoys me too. Sometimes a reviewer will post a question, and you can only answer it in a PM, as a review (yes, reviewing your own story...) or in the author's notes on your next chapter (provided there IS a next chapter).

EtteStarz - I don't know. :o My story has a little bit of sauce and some dark patches, but I still have it as T. I base it on not having anything monstrously gratuitous.

Hardly surprising a thread with "sucks" in the title would end up here.

Ferri's website is priceless.

I'm from the "burying" school BTW, it's all about the atavistic relationship between sex 'n' death.

I too was concerned about the rating system for FF so I toned down what I was going to write and, ironically, I think it came out better.

And then I discovered that FF did host some DA M/M slash complete with flying orbs and rods of power... Not that I'll tell them, though.

Thanks, too, for the advice on the reviews, I was trying to figure that one out myself.

LOL Tara!

Okay so anyone else here, find that writing sexy stuff on your fanfic with your partner in the room is either a) sexy or B) makes you blush and hope they don't read over your shoulder?

I find myself in the b category. And we have our computers in the same room. Luckily the way the big desk is, he sits with his back to me slightly.:lol:

Same situation here and B) but I find my allies are football and headphones.:innocent:

I tend to write my sexy scenes after hubby has gone to bed or before he gets home from work. If I've been spending a long time on a scene, however, he often finds he needs to .... help me research... in order to get it just right that is :)

Would that be "field" research or commentary research, mine likes the first but is not too hot on the second.  And he doesn't like to go to bed without me...  Which is sometimes a slight source of friction, me being a night person and he a day one...

Yes, I've noticed this as well.   It seems whenever I have a story that has a T rating, it gets way more views (there goes that crackity crack stats page pulling me in and making me its ho) than for a M story.  Some people don't realize you can filter.

This is how I decide on what rating to give:  Does it have penetration that is implied or written and would probably be rated R in the theaters?  I go with M.  If it's the stuff of cable TV like FX or network?  I go with T.

Yeah I've had to really promote my fic because of the M thing... T definately gets more hits. And sometime's ff.net's sorting of the ratings gets screwy as well, so your [m] rated fic gets lost somehow.

LOL, I love the field research for writing steamy bits. After this talk, I put it back on T. I am going to have a scene with a description of the aftermath of violence, and I am just going to put a warning in the authors notes at the top. I have had it on T for months and no one complained, nor did FF send me a notice. So, I must be okay. :)  LIke I said, I think it was just me and fussing like Wynne.:D

And I too am the ho for the stats bar Tasmen! T gives me more of my fix. Ah sweet sweet crack of the bar graph. LOL! :P

Most curious indeed...and I have a thought (yes, just this one).  So, hypothetically, an industrious writer could possibly “review their own story” anonymously and perhaps promote interest to potential readers?  Hypothetically and for other writers of course

Good to know...
