Lots of people say that they don't want the world to see what they write or that they just write for their own enjoyment and don't need anyone to see it at all but...I couldn't do that. Seriously, I finish something and not publishing it kills me. It's why I can't use a beta. It would cut down on typos but I honestly don't have the patience for it.Gilgamesh1138 wrote...
I do write for myself, but I am addicted to reviews, posts, and the stats (which are the suck low right now) on FF.net. LOL!

I appreciate the words of encouragement. I have a comic project I need to get finished first, but I'll probably write a bit in the evenings or somesuch. Working on a Fem!Tabris piece (current avatar, no less)Shadow of Light Dragon wrote...

I think that's the biggest problem I have; worrying that sharing my style will reveal to others that I am not worth their time or that they will mock or downgrade me.
So I just skirt around this board because I don't write proper grown up stuff like everyone else does but This above, Is so much how I feel about sharing stuff that I had to jump in and go "THIS! THIS! THIS! A THOUSAND TIMES THIS!"
Um...please continue I'll just go back to under my rock.

Despite the fact that I started writing one the other night.
If you end up posting it, I hope you get a few readers. There are people who will read and review if you ask really nicely, but yes, it's daunting. If you don't get a great response, don't let it discourage you. And always remember that less than 10% of your readers are likely to write a review, whether they like it or not.

EDIT: Yeah, I took it down. I don't think I've ever written 9000 words in one go around and last night I had a headache so fierce I felt like I'd throw up. Then I re read it over before bed and went 'this sucks.' and so now it's down. It'll be better next time :\\

I'm actually ok with my FF.net synopses and titles. My one here, for my main story, might as well say "I think this story is crap, don't read it if you have any appreciation for good writing."

I made the mistake of running my ff.net summary for "I am not a tragic figure" past someone before posting it and thtey felt it was incredibly boring and no one would want to click on it...

That's actually a limit of most programming languages and database programs, not ffnet. 255 is usually the max string length, (that's why it's the same max for, say, a single box in a spreadsheet).Sarah1281 wrote...
I still hate trying to get a decent summary in 255 characters or less (speaking of, that's a really arbitrary limit)
It seems arbitrary, but in this case it's not ffnet being strange, it's the limitations of whatever they use on the backend. There are ways around it, but since they can barely seem to keep things running as-is I don't think they have anyone on hand who could manage to impliment it. Without, you know, breaking everything horribly.
Sorry, I'll stop computer geeking on everything now.

I suppose it's better they stick with this instead of making it a more logical 250-characters or God knows I'd never be able to get a summary done since so many of mine finish with less than five characters to spare.LupusYondergirl wrote...

You know, none of my non-fanfic-writing friends understand why I can never tell them how long something is in pages or if 'two thousand words' is too long for them to read or not...
Edit: Also, how many times can you use the word **** or - in the likely event that's censored - 'the word for a woman who has sex for money starting with a w' before you should give something an M-rating? I'm writing an introspective one-shot about Zevran and he's not actually saying it or trying to demean everybody, he's just, well, thinking about his past. And he was born in a ****house.

So, basically, right now it's this :
"Bhelen had all bases covered, but didn't consider that his older brother would get himself framed on purpose just to fake the death of a certain someone. AU Fanfiction including all Origins as characters. Different outcome for House Aeducan and Orzammar."
Needless to say, a lot of people flocked to the "All Origins" idea immediately.
Granted, at first, I decided not to mention the thing about framing on purpose because that only happens in Chapter 6. So it's the same thing in the end... ah well.
In the end, I guess my male intuition IS what I should follow, since it usually works out quite spectacularly actually.
EDIT
Computer geekines rules BTW.

A lot of people like the 'all origins' idea. Partly, I think, as they're fond of multiple origins themselves and like to see, say, a Tabris and a Cousland spared their fate, partly because they want to see how Wardens as different as an Aeducan and a Brosca would interact, and partly because while it has been done before it does almost require there to be substantial differences in the story than just 'allow me to narrate the game you just played' which people doing a retelling always have to be careful to avoid.Raonar wrote...
Well, I had something dramatic like "Aeducan renounces his life so that his brothers can keep their, for more than a week at least" but then I decided to just put in the main idea and mention that all origins characters are in the tale.

Personally, I'm not particularly fond of all origin stories because the more character added the less you can focus on them and even just companions not central to the romance/plot don't often get vey much written about them (like Sten and Shale). In your story, for instance, we've gotten extremely little about the CE and the HN and not as much about the DE as the mage and two dwarves but since they've literally just finished the Joining I'm sure that'll end up changing.

I assure you, the HN and the CE will get very much attention as of chapter 12, and Shale will be one of the msot important non-wardens in my narration. Fear not, every one of the Wardens will have their spotlight, as will the companions. Granted, from how I started it, Aeducan, Broska and Surana will have the biggest roles to play, especially Alim Surana since he is, right now, THE most powerful Grey Warden in Ferelden.
You'll see what that means in two chapters time. Also, the HNF will be quite the major figure during the Orzammar plotline.
And since the story will be REALLY long, I'll have plenty of time to see to everyone. I just hope I don't die or anything before I get a chance to finish. Real Life can be a real biotch at times you know?
EDIT
Regardless, it's past midnight here so I'll be retiring now. You all have a nice day/night now.
