What really bothers me about the castles in the game is how open and simple they are. I pretend that we're only seeing part of them... and building a castle as tight and twisty as they really tended to be would be a navigation nightmare in a game. >.>

On the Redcliffe tunnel: an escape tunnel isn't unreasonable... I just wouldn't have it exit outside the village which would have been taken by invading forces. At the bottom of the bluff the castle sits on with a waiting ship, on the other hand....

I know right? Maybe there is one down to there but they just didn't tell us about it. Need to know I would guess :)

I don't get why the firefox built-in spellcheck (which happens to think both 'firefox' and 'spellcheck' are not valid words) doesn't work in the expanded reply form. Ugh.

I really wish my muse would leave me alone for a few days. I've got tons of ideas lately, but I really want to make a new dress and clean my house!

Question:

Is it sadistic to be glad your story made someone cry? A guy even?

Well, he may have not, but he wrote a review with the express purpose of denying it...

Actually... don't answer that...

I don't know, I'd be pretty pleased with myself if I managed to get such an emotional response from a reader. :)

I say be proud. I love when people tell me they laughed out loud reading my stuff. The few times I ventured into sad and someone told me they cried I was thrilled.

Definitely a good thing. And as the really emotional bits of the story that are up so far mainly center around the DN origin/family then you're spreading the Aeducan love. Posted Image

I wonder what'll happen when I actually pull one over everyone once the Orzammar plotline starts.

I will be merciless and so will my protagonist, especially when he again enters his "I'm doing this for your own good" mode again.

Still, I guess there's no harm in feeling warm and fuzzy inside for now.

*feels all warm and fuzzy inside for now*

Also.

Definitely worth it to spread the Aeducan and Broska love.

Out of curiousity, how soon are you planning on getting back to Orzammar?

Well, it will take a while, but not overly long.

First will come Lothering and Redcliffe, but this'll be done real fast because of some plot twists I'll indulge in. Then there will be the Circle of Magi. then Soldier's Peak and a bit of Denerim. After that, Orzammar and everything else.

So...just about half of the actual game's plot and it's taken over 100K to finish the Joining...Nope, not long at all. Posted Image

Well... it's either that or me skimming through everything important and make this story look incredibly lame.

I think I'll stick to the former

Thanks

I admit that WAS my goal when I wrote that Chapter, but I didn't quite feel like I managed to relay the intensity well enough. Then again, I'm a perfectionist so I doubt I'll ever be absolutely satisfied with what I write.

Anyway, enough about me. Moving on...

Unless it's intended as a secret way for people to escape into the safety of the castle from the village.  Sort of like the tunnel between the Vatican palaces and Castell Sant'Angelo in Rome.

I have a question...

Did Bioware ever say anything, even give a hint as to what happened to the DC's father? All I know is what his mother says, that he left for the surface.

No. And you don't hear about him leaving from the mother who never wants to talk about it but from Rica. She remembers the argument that the parents had over it and the day after he left to go seek his fortune on the Surface, she started drinking. Of course, given the way Rica always calls him 'your father' while never calling their mother 'your mother' I really think she had a different father (possibly a noble given Kalah's attitude towards Rica's doing it and her bitterness at Rica succeeding, the fact she blames children on ruining her life which as Rica wasn't a boy she may see it as that, and the fact that she tells a DCF that if she had it her way you'd be doing it, too).

I didn't get the impression there was much of a story there with your father in that origin. Sometimes guys just ditch their kids. Lousy, but it happens.

I do like the theory that Rica's father was a noble, though. I also had the impression that you had different fathers, and that the mother had been a noble hunter at one point. She says something about getting just useless girls as children once, IIRC.

Actually, when you go back to the palace, there are some conversation options that have the DC's Mother saying that thing about leaving for the suface like your father. At leas the toolset says so.

Anyway, thanks for the answer.

I'd forgotten about that. In the origin, which I'm more familiar with than the DC return to Orzammar, Rica's the one who tells you about it.

@ LupusYondergirl: To his credit, he at least tries to convince the mother first. Once it became clear she wouldn't, that's when he cut his ties and left. Still bad, but not quite as much of a dick move as if he'd just left without telling anyone.

Oh! I have another subject to discuss and am looking for opinions. It's in regards to a mage pc.

Do you think that becoming a grey warden changes the blood of the individual. It seems to me that it's the taint in the blood that is recognized by grey wardens and darkspawn.

The second part is in regards to the phylactery that holds the Grey Wardens blood. Do you think the change the taint has wrought on the mage pc's blood would be enough to make the phylactery blood useless? (in terms of being used to find the mage)

This is something I am also playing with.

The phylactery thing and what happens with it if one becomes a GW is never explained if I remember. I THINK it should stil be possible to find the mage, but it may not.

I also think that a Blood Mage should be capable of doing something to himself or his blood to sever the link with the phylactery; Also, I don't see why a mage can't develop a spell to work the other way and track down the phylactery so that it can be smushed.

Anders at least thinks his phylactery is still a problem after he becomes a GW. I can't remember if the Templars who go after him actually use it or rely entirely on a trap though.

Either way, I got the impression the phylactery can still be used. I could be wrong, though, and it's a very interesting theory. :)
