I could toss you a list of thematically appropriate songs via PM if you want. Or I could just post it here for everyone's benefit, if it is a bit off topic.Raonar wrote...

I really hope I manage to create a suitable image of war.

For writing smut I usually toss on Christian Death, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, maybe some Sisters of Mercy, that sort of thing. More towards the goth end of the spectrum.
And, for reasons I can't quite explain, when I'm writing stuff with a lot of heavy politics, I like Stromkern and the Cruxshadows. I don't know why, but they just work to get me in the right mindset.
And there are VNV Nation tracks and albums I use as background music to write EVERYTHING. Since I adore them like I adore oxygen.

That should do it I'd suggest some songs by Rhapsody/Rhapsody of Fire, but the lead's inability to pronounce english has really begun to bother me.
Now, thats just a list of music I enjoy for battle. If I wanted two, I could write a whole list of stuff reorchestrating the whole game based on location and attitude. But I wont. That would be too time consuming, not very useful, and my musical taste only. >.>

Admittedly, I don't review every story I read but I do review most of them (or comment on the BSN thread).

Ok, humble request here....
I am on the verge of beginning the Ostagar battle and am at a loss for inspiration.
Have you lords and ladies any suggestions for a good, inspirational soundtrack? Something that starts with building tension and then slowly escalates, until all hell breaks loose, and all that bardic nonsense.
Or maybe an all-purpose song?
Soundtrack from the movie Gladiator.
I'm thinking of this track for the battle. Starts with the heroic gathering to arms, waiting for the charge, then the battle itself. The music does a good job of making the fight actually feel chaotic and scary.

Its not unique to the DA fandom. People fave my artwork, but I don't get much feedback on what they liked or didn't like about what I draw.Sarah1281 wrote...
Why is the DA fandom so horrible about reviews? I know people read my stuff and fave it and everything but the lack of reviews are very frustrating. Particularly when people fave practically every DA story you write but never leave a freaking review!

I know that most people don't leave reviews in general but for bigger fandoms where it's entirely possible to eventually get 100 reviews for a one-shot then it's far less noticeable and annoying. If I get, say, twenty reviews for a chapter then I'm far less likely to care that several hundred people read it without commenting than if I get four.ArawnNox wrote...

(Speaking of, does anyone allow anon reviews? I never have, I worry it'll just lead to a lot of trolls. I wonder sometimes if I should, though. Not that I can complain about how many reviews I get now, I'm just greedy like that.)

I always do. Yes, you can open yourself to stupid reviews (like if you have two characters listed but the story doesn't have them as the pairing then there might be the occasional 'oh, this fails. Take it out of the Character X/Character Y listing' like the one I got earlier this week) but the great thing about anonymous reviews? You can remove them very easily. Just go to the 'reviews' section of your log-in area and hit the sub-category 'remove reviews.' For signed ones you have to report them or remove the whole story to get rid of them but since it's so easy to get rid of anonymous ones that you don't like I think it's well worth it to allow them.LupusYondergirl wrote...
I don't review as often as I like since I read on my iphone a lot, and reviewing on there is a huge pain. The mobile site never wants to keep me logged in.

I allow them and I'm extremely happy with my decision; I have an anon reviewer who is pretty much the only thing that keeps me writing sometimes. And I've not had any issues with trolls or crazies because of it.
And I would like to express my frustration that I am getting favorited like crazy now but my hits and reviews are incredibly low. It's baffling, to be honest.
Clarification: The low reviews/hits- not baffling, but the ratio of favorites to reviews/hits is.

I listen to soft stuff when writing fight scenes (Enya/Adiemus/Zeitler/Etc.) and hard stuff when writing sex/romance (Type O/Tool/Etc.). So "What should I listen to while writing an epic fight scene?" Hm...this

I've decided to not let it get to me unless I don't get *any* reviews on a particular chapter. When that happens, I do get discouraged.
