And I just put up the first two chapters of my prequel story.
I read these chapters just now. Great job! I'm making myself a link to this story (what I usually do when on the internet,) I hope to see more!

Why is the DA fandom so horrible about reviews? I know people read my stuff and fave it and everything but the lack of reviews are very frustrating. Particularly when people fave practically every DA story you write but never leave a freaking review!
Admittedly, I don't review every story I read but I do review most of them (or comment on the BSN thread).
I allow anon reviews but have never received one...
I think in general I probably receive less reviews than most here but since it's my first time writing fic and I'm thrilled to receive any review and most of which I have received are good, I am not going to let that trouble me....
Perhaps it is also the nature of the fandom, most of the reviews I receive appear to be from rather thoughtful introverts (I would include myself in this group most days!) and therefore should be doubly appreciated....

@Maria: I agree about the quality of the reviews. Most of mine are a lot more in-depth than I see on stories in other fandoms. I rarely get a "I like this," usually it's a good paragraph or more with a lot of specifics. I try to be the same way when I review.
I admit, I'm VERY fortunate in terms of reviews. I have a group of about ten people who faithfully review almost every chapter I write, and another dozen or so who don't review every single chapter, but do post reviews on a fairly regular basis..

After receiving a lengthy indictment cataloguing all the ways I suck, I've decided that I wouldn't mind if all of my reviews from here on out were in emoticon form.
And on a completely unrelated note, I am absurdly proud of myself for having the only Sigrun romance on ff.net.

Just to counter it, here's my opinion of your work.

Whaaaa?? Was it an anti-Anders person who was mad Alistair wouldn't get the girl (since it's not like he does in 90% of the DA stories out there or anything...)SurelyForth wrote...

And... Sigrun and Ron? Awesome! There is not NEARLY enough Sigrun love. I have her and Nathaniel paired, but not as main characters. I thought surly and brooding would be a good match for perenially cheerful.

You're kidding. I need to start one as soon as I'm done with my other stories. Sigrun is too awesome to be ignored.

@jackkel dragon: Thank you! Have you read my other stories? If not, I have two others with the same main character. (I'm curious to see how this reads if someone hasn't been following my other stuff, too. Not sure if it makes sense, or all the little references I put in for later events are just confusing).
I think I actually made myself a link to one of the other stories, but I haven't read it yet. (Is it "Apostates of Amaranthine?")
So far the DAO prequel makes sense, but I'm sure that I'm missing out on the references.
I'll check out your other stories when I get the time...

She mentioned hating that Anders was the "romantic lead" but, overall, it was more of a "I hate that I spent time reading this when there are other stories that are much better. And you suck and are mean-spirited for what you've done to Alistair" type thing. It's not even anything I can work with or address beyond "I'm sorry."
I agree with you, Sialater, I can't imagine devoting that much time to telling anyone that they're lousy at their hobby. And thanks!

There really is not enough Sigrun love. She's amazing, and the idea of a Duster and a Dalish together gives me serious lore squee.

That makes me kind of feel like I should give Sigrun a love interest but, aside from the fact I have no faith in my ability to do romance, I'd have to create a new DCM or create an Orlesian dwarf as my current male dwarf is kind of a man**** and living in Orzammar to raise the kid he gets to see.jackkel dragon wrote...

Yeah, that's my absurd-huge magnum opus of fanfic.
I'm glad it makes sense. I tried to write it so it would to anyone who hasn't read the later stories, but wanted to include a few things here and there that were either referenced later on, or would make readers of the later stories laugh. (such as her constantly almost bumping into Anders so far.)

As is SurelyForth! I feel like I should go out and crush people who want to dish dirt on you, because I get the feeling you're getting some of Gil's "goblins" and we cannot have anything interfere with more Undertow chapters! Pass me my sword!
Seriously though, I think a lot of negative reviews are because of jealousy. I'm insanely jealous of Undertow because I know I could never, ever write something that emotionally gripping - but I'm also sanguine about it because I can rely on other people to write that. Some people might be a bit more grumpy about it, I guess.

I would say that your story is a success if it causes this kind of reaction. I think it's important to realize that some people go into a story expecting a certain result and although I am generally well pleased when I am surprised by a different ending other people might be angry. I once had a friend read one of my stories and she told me to leave the main character alone. I didn't bother explaining that it was my way of making her feel for the characters involved, instead I took it as a complement in being able to accomplish my objective.
Oh, but negative comments and reviews totally get my blood boiling. Hang in there! *hugz*

You know what, don't EVEN apologize. Screw that. She doesn't like that you went with the Alistair as wandering drunk epilogue? How is that YOUR FAULT? It's not even AU! Since your character made a choice she wouldn't have made- a choice that is a legitimate IN GAME option, you're somehow evil? If she doesn't like stories where Alistair misses the happy ending, well, she shouldn't READ them. Not insult writers because they won't craft for her and her alone using nothing but the choices she would make. If someone's that picky they just need to write their own fic!
Whatever.
I say this falls deeply into "some people are just jerks" territory.
(Apparently I feel very strongly about this! I'm all for people sending on ideas and constructive help, but I LOATHE backseat editors. They make me rage. I swore at my monitor when I got a long email about why Sirgrun was "gross" and pairing her with Nathaniel was "nasty" since he should be in a love triangle with Anders and Maggie. LIke... what? Are you even reading the same story I'm writing??)

Agreed on all counts. I like reviews that say "This is almost too sad" or "X is acting out of character" because that's something I can use to gauge what I'm doing right or wrong. And I can actually handle some amount of meddling (like my delightfully crazy Branders fanatic) but I would never, ever expect someone to change their plot or even subplots to suit my storytelling needs.
Ah, the joys of putting yourself Out There.
And thank you, Lupus!
