I am tempted to put my fic to T now, you've got me all curious. But, eh. There's a lot of violence and sweaty bits in mine <.<

Yours is M in the same way that a few of mine are M.  Yep yep :P

I guess mine is M too then.

Wow, haven't had time to visit this thread in 24 hours and look what happens. Lots of fun. I rated my story M even though it is probably less explicit than many of the T stories. I don't want someone to stumble upon it and be offended because I hadn't warned them. I do intermittantly have a fair amount of violence and I'm not quite sure what will happen when my characters get to Antiva.

See, now I waver, I am worried about my occasional violence. And my Zev is often naked too, and my Alistair, and my PC. ROFL! :o

I cheated and put my story under T until the main characters 'knocked boots' (great Zev line that :)), when I changed it to M. There is a bit of violence in it but they fight, that's what they do so you can't expect zero violence.

Nothing wrong with starting a story out with a T rating and then moving it along to M when violence/sex happen.  I did that with my Loghain/Cauthrien piece, for example.

Terrible! just think of all the young minds you corrupted... :D.

I think it really depends on how much detail you put in or if its all innuendo and left very much to the readers imaginations.

I try to leave it to readers imaginations. I don't graphic descriptions. Those tend to turn me off, so I write for me! Oh self centered author! :P

I know what you mean.  The livejournal kink meme has killed certain words and phrases for me.  I've been known to go on rants on IRC about erections, slits, nubs, etc.

I too, prefer to leave the details to the readers imagination. I don't mind authors that want to include a little more detail but it's not really my cup of tea. I really find it annoying when a good story is ruined by explicit content that is included too frequently. The Jean Auel "Clan of the Cave Bear" series is a good example - a lot of history and information on early man and a good story line but after the first couple of books she uses intimate scenes as filler in almost every chapter - I always wondered why the main characters didn't have anything better to do.

>.> yeah I get pretty graphic, I guess. I don't mention the words Tasmen goes on MASS HATE RANTS though, thankfully. If I'm honest the character in my main fic (see icon and sig, lulz) sex is quite importtant to the character in the way she goes about it, and I use it usually as a way of showing a side of her deflective personality.

I know what you mean though Tanith Auel did start using it as filler, not like soignee is using it as character growth or personality development. Auel seemed to use it to make her books thicker. LOL.:P

Tanith has read my saucy bits, and you didn't hate them, so I am going with that as an endorsement I did okay. Esecially since Tanith is a great writer in her own right. As all of you are. You do realize I am finding more and more wonderful fics to read just from this thread. Of course it also means I have to buckled down and still write my own, ROFL. I keep catching myself reading everyone else's.:D:wub:

Graphic is okay if it fits the character - there are several FF's I read that are quite graphic but have great stories. I just find writing explicit content to be outside my comfort zone.

My complaint is more about explicit content used as filler or in place of a story line. Soignee, I haven't read your FF yet - I want to play through the dwarf origins before I start it. Rest assured I will read it after my Brosca has left Orzammar.

Gil, yours is not that graphic, it is quite tastefully done, also thanks for the vote of confidence - sometimes I worry that I spend too much time on the characters and not enough on plot progression.

I also keep finding great FF links in this thread and it distracts me from my own writing - there is just so much talent here.

oh thanks! It's a great origin, you won't be dissapointed. It can be a little bleak, though.

Oh good, I tried. To, and graphic well makes me blush too much.  Not my comfort level either.:pinched:

I don't mind some graphic, now that you put it that way Tanith. Some have been graphic and haven't bothered me. But they fit with the story. I hadn't thought of it that way.

I need to check out soignee's work too.

That's okay, a good reason for my Brosca to sympathize with Zev.

Really graphic sexin makes me squicky too, at least the writing of it.  I feel silly and giggle and blush and all that stuff I feel as a grown woman I /should/ be above but I'm not :D  Reading it on other hand?  I appreciate really well written smut.  Makes me happy and jealous of the writer's ability.

I have a book and some short stories published, nothing too popular. I uploaded my fanfic book for anyone who wants to read it: http://social.biowar...m/project/1942/

Tanith approves +100.  I was a little slow to figure that out with my first character (even turned down his romance - oh no), I'm fixing that with my FF story.

I agree with this - by explicit you mean sex, I take it.  I'm not sure what others think, but a lot of the one-shot fictions over at FF.net seem to me to be just thinly veiled porn using the DA world as a backdrop.

Graphic content is good if it makes sense to have it, im guilty of being a bit of a gore addict, heads and bodyparts usually started flying off in my fanfics. Thankfully ive restrained myself a little lately.

I rarely read one shots (unless they are written by an author I follow).  My preference is for works over 5,000 words and with multiple chapters because they are the most likely to have real  plot development, not just a brief synopsis of someone's fantasy.  There are some great writers on FF, some use sex in their stories and some don't.  Try filtering by story length and you are more likely to get the better ones.  I do look at the mature content stories because there are some very good ones, many of which have only a small amount of sex.  Also a lot of people list their fic's as mature to be on the safe side, most people are careful not to post things inappropriate for kids under the teen listing.

Oh I think some of those authors would readily admit they were doing nothing but writing pwp (porn without plot).  :D
