I noticed that too Stuffy, some of it is just thinly veiled porn.

Oh sympathizing with Zev, oh yes! I do admit to loving the Antivan heart breaker.

I will have to try Tanith's filtering system. Though like Tasmen, when am in the mood for a little well done smut, a one shot is nice.

Tasmen and Nuit Nuit have some really good one shots -some of them are absolutely hilarious. Cullen in a brothel - priceless (see The Honeyed Peach).

Awww thanks   Though really, not sure I would call that 'smut'.  'The Honeyed Peach' is more cracky kitten pr0n than anything.

Tasmen, I agree, not really smut, but it was a one shot I really enjoyed - more for the wonderful humor of the situation.

I think the ME FF trumps the DA FF for smut overall.  So many love interests, so little time, hmm.

I have to admit I've been a little afraid to dive into ME fanfic.

Be afraid, be very afraid. There are some good ones, you just have to dig through some really bad ones to find them.

I think with ME fic I'm going to stick with 'if someone I know recommends it, then I'll read it'.

Me too! So if the lovely Tanith has any suggestions, I am willing to explore.

Well, everyone has different tastes but here are a few ME FF's that are off to a good start.

Ascension by aadarshinah

Catharsis by stardust923

When the Day Comes by Kainsdaughter

Kiwibliss also has several very good ones but they do contain some smut (and a fair amount of humor)

Also Aroihkin doesn't post much here on Community creations but she is very active on the Zevran thread in the OC and Awakening spoiler board, her "Immovable Objects" is extremely good -very unique grey warden.

Oh thanks Tanith!

Okay, I am having a moment of crisis.  Have you all ever written a chapter, posted it, felt it was crap and taken it down again?  I try not to post something I am not at least satifsfied with , not meh about.  But I did it.  Have you felt like you were afraid to write because it would just be lame?  :crying:

Yup - I've felt that way, but not actually done it. One particular chapter of Losses and one of Beginnings that I really, really wanted to take down again but realised if I tried to re-write them I'd just botch it even more - they were really hard chapters to write and I just never wanted to see them again.

If you're talking about the last chapter of Soulmates - what was wrong with it? I liked it!

GIl, last chapter was great, don't worry. And yes, I would really like to destroy my first 2 chapters of "A Grey Warden's Honor" and rewrite them. I did edit them heavily but I left them up. I suspect that they won't be the last chapters I look at later and think they stink. However, I am always more critical of my work than others, I suspect you are the same way.

I'm always a little afraid that what I write is lame, but I do it anyway - I won't improve my writing ability by hiding my work, even if I hate it later. The nice thing about FF is that you can get feedback and see if people read it and how they respond to it. "Soulmates" is a great story and your last chapter felt like you were preparing for a nice transition back into more serious material (the fluff has been lots of fun though).

By the way - I think Zev needs to share his brandy with all of us. I'm sure good brandy would help our creativity to flow.

Yeah, Gil. At least you've got it up. I've been "writing" all day and I've only got 5 paragraphs finished...you're going at a good pace. Don't lose it now...maybe I should go get some brandy - get this flow on.

ROFL, thanks guys! No worries the last chapter is getting more meat on the bone is all. It isn't going bye bye completely. But it did need...more. And thanks, I had a feeling I wasn't the only one. :)

I really need to get some brandy too, I agree. I keep writing about it, and now I need some. Darn that Zev for not sharing.

Yep, that's the one great thing about fan fiction - you're doing it for free so there's no fixed deadline.

Good god, knows I've missed so many of my own already.

But you see then you get stuff of "when's the next chapter?" From people, and you start putting your own deadlines in. Mine is a chapter a week, minimum. I appear to write 6-8k chapters now, which I worry about constantly as I don't know if it's too much for people's attention spans- reading online is a lot different to a book. I've seem the majority of fanfic writers have 2000ish words a chapter at the most, and I wonder if I'm doinitwrrrrrooong.

One of these days I need to post my Post It collection where I try to formulate the plot, lulz. It's growing and my poor desk is littered in them.

Mmm, I generally don't have this problem <_<  So, can't really add anything of value to this conversation.

I also wondered at lengths of chapters, mine were just creeping over 4k per chapter.  Last part was a monster, even after splitting it, it was 4.5k and 6k.  I think 10,500 words is too much to take in one slice :)

Ette, where is the next chapter? See you do get it. I have already bugged you before. But DO NOT pressure yourself for a deadline. But I do want my next chapter! :o  Tara where is my next fix? I need my Zev lovin'.

If I may? I don't know what this is worth, but I try to limit it to around 4-6k. Any longer and I start looking for a cut off point and starting a new chapter. Someone as detailed and rich as Ette's and I recommended that Ette cut the chapters down. It would help with traffic and reviews. soignee is right, the attention span for online reading is different than a book. I have only had a couple of chapters that were longer, 7k and one 8k. But those I felt were pushing it. The reason I say this is that I tend to read at work in between calls at a call center. So it is really hard to read something too long. I suspect many people snatch stolen moments with their fav fanfics.

Hey, Tara.  Oh, I'm not too worried - trust me;)

I've got plenty of writing deadlines juggling at hand already...saw you've got a new theme today...it's neat, by the way.  I like the color scheme.

Yeah, I left myself open to that one...leave it to Gil to be the forum task master <<cracking whip>>

I've got 5 paragraphs...obsessing a little too much on the sentence structure and whatnots.

Awww, you're too kind, Gil.  If that's you way of making me write faster - well it's working.  You can always get further with honey :D

This is actually a crucial chapter I'm writing - the conflict exposition. I've already alluded to it throughout the story, and I think most readers understand the basic why but writing the reason "why and how it came to be" is a delicate matter.

It's a flashback so I'm trying to balance the different elements of adventure and romance. I obsessed about the introduction the entire day, but I've got it where I think it works and sets the course for the rest of the chapter.

BUT, I hope to be done with it by tomorrow night - if my day job doesn't get in the way of course.  Then, I'm off to reviewing other fan fiction pieces, yay!

I try not to make my chapters more that 2k - sometimes they have to go over, but I find I tend to write in 2k "bites" anyway - probably something to do with all the 2k essays I had to write at Uni.

I've got to say, if I'm looking through FF.net I do not start reading anything that is over 10k - unless I'm with the story from the beginning and getting chapter updates I figure I just can't manage it. I also usually only tend to read fics that other people have listed as favourites.. either people who have been reading mine or people who's work I like. If it's a favourite of an author I follow I'll give it a go even if it is really long.
