I mean the featureless mage was called "Sketch" like they couldn't be bothered to fill him out?

Drawing sketches was his hobby, and I guess it became his handle.

Oh! I just playing through Leliana's song today and I remember reading that codex about Sketch and his "sketching" in his books...I didn't even make that connection until I read your post....Interesting!

Due to excitement on my part, the fact that not everyone reads my story, it's about fanfics, and the fact that other people have totally done this as well, I'm going to also post my just-put-up-on-DA Aimo commission here:

Slightly worried about the Morrigan DLC considering she features heavily in one of my fics now...

That's so fantastic! I'm so tempted to get one of those sketchcards.

Did you just have to email her screenshots for the character's face?

Considering Leliana's DLC directly contradicted what Leliana said in the core game... maybe we should just consider the DLCs to be AU now. ;)

I sent her a couple but yeah, that was all I needed to do. Well, that and specify what I wanted her to be doing and I, tragically, couldn't think of anything better than 'looking like a princess' but she definitely does. I actually got the card in the mail a month or so ago and it really didn't take very long for it to get done, especially when you consider how long the actual mailing process takes.

I think it also depends on how much work she's got on - I asked for mine a long, long time ago and it took nearly three months all up, but during that three months she was posting sketch cards like an absolute demon on DevArt - she seemed to have a huge backlog of work to get through!

But I killed Oghren! (Morrigan is the only party character who can't die, so she should have been in Awakening. A Grey Warden giving birth to a God-Child...)

In a more serious tone: Leliana's Song directly contradicted everything about the Orlais story in the core game, but the main idea was there (with a few embellishments and minor inconsistancies.) I think of it as a psuedo-framed narrative, like Varric telling Cassandra about Hawke owning darkspawn like they were paper dolls.

I'm a bit disappointed none of my BSN friends have commented on my "status" about Witch Hunt. Like I said there, Morrigan was a major figure in DAO all along, I'm not surprised the end focuses on her. Maybe the Warden can die (again!) or kill Morrigan (or both!) this time.

Now I feel vindicated in giving Morrigan a major role in my fanfic even though I'm not using her in the playthrough it's based on. To be honest, she was really only important in the opening and "climax" (that sounds wrong...) of DAO's campaign.

And if you pay very close attention to the screenshots, you'll see what I think is a familiar character (not Sketch, that mage is human)....

Edit/Disclaimer: I have yet to kill Oghren.

cool Gaider interview with insights into some of the characters and his thoughts on writing here.

I found the link in the DA2 forum, interesting discussion about it there.

@Tanith: interesting article.

@ Jackkel: Oghren is one of the harder party members to kill. Unlike Leliana or Wynne who will attack you over something you do or Sten and Zevran who you may never even get in your party, he's kind of forced on you and won't attack unless he hates you and you won't let him go. Even then, you need to choose to attack him again to kill him and I'm not sure of any RP-reason besides 'my Warden is a nutcase' that would explain why you'd do so.

Yeah, Oghren and Dog are some of the hardest party members to kill. You have to kill Dog in Ostagar (or ignore him) to get rid of him, but you have to actively hate on Oghren to get the opportunity to kill him.

Fun times. Oghren passing out is funnier than it should be. Especially when he stumbles around drunk trying to proposition male player characters...

@Sarah - Nice pic :) Definitely looks like a princess.

re: Morrigan - Maybe it's me, but I've never been that fascinated by her character. If her DLC isn't along the lines of Leliana's (that is, being a bardic retelling that tweaks so many details it might as well be AU) then I doubt I'll bother with it, but even if it's meant to be canon I'm not sure I'll be interested. Maybe I'd think differently if I played a guy and romanced her. :P They seem to be the most vocal 'bring back Morrigan' people.

And the whole godchild thing...didn't Baldur's Gate kinda cover this? I think I just find more appeal in mere mortal's being able to change the world rather than relying on some cosmic divine power no one else has access to.

I agree with you about the god-child--I'd like to see it appear in the game if you did the DR, possibly as an antagonist, and generally prefer playing ordinary mortals.  However, .looking at that trailer, I'm not so sure that Hawke is an ordinary mortal.,,

I'm not that into Morrigan either. Why is that? She should perhaps be the most interesting character in the game. What with her cliffhanger, strange upbringing, so many unanswered questions etc.

Nonetheless, I'm going to play the DLC. (Must play golems first.)

@maxernst - Yeah, I think I'd prefer the godchild being an antag, or even a party member(!) rather than the PC. As for Hawke, still reserving judgement. :P

@Firky - It's more Morrigan's motives that interest me than Morrigan herself, and by extension Flemeth's motives. I wouldn't mind knowing the big picture, and I get the feeling Morrigan herself doesn't know it. ;)

If Morrigan's motives and, more to the point, the mystery surrounding her are what's so fascinating about her then wouldn't something like this or DA2 that could reveal that make her less interesting as her big secrets are gone and there's nothing more to wonder about?

Probably, Sarah. But while I'm interested to know what's going on, I can't say I'd lose any sleep over not playing the DLC if I can just read spoilers. :P I'm just not motivated to hear Morrigan's story from Morrigan's lips, if that makes sense.

Is it just me or is it kind of depressing when you realize that someone on ff.net took your story off of their favorites list? I don't care if it never makes it but if they take it off then I tend to freak out about what I've done recently to make them hate it...

*has just noticed this very thing*

Edit: And it's even worse if they're a regular reviewer and one chapter they were talking about wanting to see something that would happen in the future and then the next chapter...mysterious silent hatred/apathy.

*Hugs* Sarah.  I'd probably never notice but if I did it would probably make me wonder too.  Hard to say what makes people like a fic though.  Something you or I might think sounds awesome could be just the opposite of what an individual reader wants to read.  If you are satisfied with what you've written I wouldn't let it bother you.  Fav's, alerts and stats are all nice but when it comes down to it, we have to satisfy ourselves as writers.   I haven't read all of your fics but what I have read is very good, I wouldn't let one persons opinion bring you down.

*offers Sarah a hug too* Like Tanith said, I'd probably wonder...but I don't pay much attention to who who likes/unlikes. I did have someone leave a review for The Hunt once after a certain chapter saying they would stop reading and they gave a reason (too much Alistair? XD), so I didn't have to wander around saying "whhhhhhhhy?", but I did still feel a bit unhappy to lose a reader all the same. :)

Oh God. I just posted less than 4000 words and that would freak .. me .. out. I am very impressed with how you guys a) write so many words and B) cope with people judging such a large thing that you love so much. This forum is a really supportive place.
