Nope, just the Helm, Shale and the Cheese-knife.

Don't forget, as far as the artifacts are concerned.... as the Commander of the Grey, you do have to outfit all your Wardens. You will need that crap later on, even if you don't give them as gifts.

And thanks for the well-wishes, y'all.  It's one of my ME2 fics, so I doubt I can discuss it here.

Well, most of the named items are outshined by other equipment you can buy later. Some things are less deadly as they are unique: my first Wade Dragonskin, for example, versus the others I can buy. And a lot of it isn't exactly fitting for rank-and-file troops: why should I give the Couseland family blade to, say, Justice?

The only reason to keep the Cousland Blade is to run Howe through with it. After that, it goes over the mantle.

My city elves always keep the wedding ring and dress. They generally wear the dress when they kill Archie.

That depends how sentimental you are about it. I know that there are plenty of people who, when playing DN rogues, give the Aeducan shield to, say, Alistair. I always play rogues when not playing mages given my lack of ability to lock-bash and I know that if he or anyone else even thought about touching that, they'd lose a finger. To me, family heirlooms are too important to go: 'hm, well Alistair needs a shield and I just got this huge one with decent stats so why doesn't he take it up. I'm sure it wouldn't offend everyone in Orzammar and make the Ancestors cry. And even if it does, who cares? Alistair needs a shield.'

I haven't actually played my Aeducan past Ostagar, but even if I gave the shield to Alistair, it would be a loan.  Emma Coulsand never gave away her family sword, though, she loaned the shield to Alistair.

Just finished chapter 16 of my AU tale! And it's got Morrigan and Sandal!

What do you lords and ladies think can happen if Morrigan is trying to prepare a delicate potion and someone suddenly screams "ENCHANTMENT'?

So I have a question: How would you guys recommend handling it if someone insists on reading your story even though they appear to hate a good deal of it including how the main character is portrayed and, what's more, chronically telling you all the problems they have with it and make it clear that they think you're sheltered and naive with no idea what you're talking about? I know it's only going to get worse with future chapters (the dislike of the story if not necessarily the comments to that effect) and it's really killing any possible motivation I might have to update.

@Sarah: As a newbie, I can't really help you, sorry. What story are you referring to? I'm trying to build up a list of DAFF for when I have some free time...

The one in my signature. 'I Am Not A Tragic Figure.' Of course, that's hardly a glowing recommendation...Posted Image

Seriously, I'm finally at the part I've been wanting to do since the beginning. I should be looking forward to writing it. Posted Image

I'd ignore them, to be honest. Some people just love to complain, and they'll look for any reason to. Haters gotta hate and so on.

Your story is great, and I really love how you portray the DN origin.

I'll be sure to check out the story soon. It sounds like the kind of story I'm looking for...

And, at the risk of sounding like a mimic: Haters gonna hate. Enjoy writing the parts you've been building up to, it's what all that other stuff was for!

Have you tried sending them a private message? You seem to be assuming a lot of things that this reviewer hasn't explicitly said (it. that s/he thinks you're sheltered etc), which won't help on the motivation-to-write front. Send them a polite message, see if you can get on the same page, and either you'll feel better for it, they'll go away, or you can decide they're a troll and block them.

Well, actually they have. I don't know if you've actually looked at the review in question but in the past, by this person, I have been told that I am naive, that I'm sheltered, that I'm too much of an idealist, that reading my story gives them the motivation to update because of how much my portrayal of the Warden enrages them, ect. And also that I should stop letting things that people say on the internet get to me, come to think of it...

Edit: Although I will admit that they've never outright told me that I don't know what I'm talking about and that that is an assumption I'm making from the repeated insistances that I'm naive.

@Sarah - I'm in the same boat jackkel dragon is in and am merely acquiring a list of stories to read - I have yet to start yours, unfortunately...but I *have* been reading what I think you have been referring to on your thread here on the board? I honestly wouldn't pay them much heed - you've gotten lots of other great reviews from people who are obviously enjoying your story. Its pretty difficult (impossible, maybe?) to please everyone....but unfortunately for you a person who doesn't like your story ALSO likes to be really vocal about their disagreements with the story. Poor form.

Personally, I would just chalk it up to jealousy. :) If your chaptered story is similar to your few shorts that I've read, then that would make me think jealousy even more because I loved your writing style in the shorts!

Off topic: My husband was "activating" Ser Pounce-a-lot a lot (literally while I was typing this reply), so Anders' kitty was mewing quite often....and it got one of my kittens to mew at the screen. Too cute!

Sarah's Aunn is pure awesome. She and Maggie Amell are probably my two favourite Warden PC characters in fanfic. Aunn is flawed, logically coherent as a character and not a MarySue. I think the reviewer in question has a preconceived notion of how the warden ought to be.

Hmm...much as I like inspiring people to write, I don't think 'the way you write the Warden makes me sooo angry!' is the kind of thing I pictured, heh.

If talking them down is out of the question, what they're saying is really having a bad effect on you and you can't shrug off what they're saying, I'd block them from reviewing. If you're worried they'll just post under another name or anon, don't block and instead just delete reviews *without* reading them. That'll need a bit of self-discipline on your part, though.

The whole 'stop letting things people say on the internet get to you blah blah' is stupid, really. A comment on the internet is no different from a comment in the office, at school or at home from the perspective of the person it's aimed at.

The main difference is that the internet-commenter doesn't have to worry about getting his teeth knocked out for being an anonymous dick. ;) Real brave.

Ignore list on the forum, block from reviewing, and don't give him the time of day?

He already knows it's not appreciated. Continuing to do it is just douche on his part.

It's not just ignoring people on the internet. It's all unkind and unjust critics at all times. I had a writing professor tell me I couldn't write and I'd never sell anything.

I got pissed and worked my ass off on a short story after graduation and sold it.

Thank you!  ^_^

And I agree, Aunn is really fleshed out.  Her reactions and behavior always seem very consistent with someone who is dealing with what is literally a completely foreign country and culture on top of the blight, etc after being ripped from a life of extreme privilege.

YES! This!
I'm reminded of John Gabriel's Greater Internet F**kwad Theory which is, IMO, one of the most accurate scientific theories ever presented via the medium of a webcomic about video games.

Heh, I believe I know who you are talking about. Brush it off ;)

If you wish, I can tell you that I am pretty sure that person is just used to being overly blunt and not the best diplomat I've ever seen. I don't really think his wish is to come out as hostlie towards you, at least not more hostile than he sometimes comes across to everyone else.

Anyway, what I'm saying is that the comments he makes shouldn't be enough to phase you so much. You go wnd write that story if yours because it's, simply put, good. So stop worrying about what other people think so much.

Insults, by their very nature, are WRONG (as someone should be able to get his/her point accross without resorting to them) so just ignore them or, if you care too much, try to imagine what their comment WOULD have sounded like had it been formulated more diplomatically.
