I am so painfully immature. I've come to this conclusion since I'm currently rewriting my next chapter. I realized, when it was almost done, that it's chapter 69. Because of this momentous occasion I've decided I have to include smut. For the lolz.

There is a fourteen year old who lives in my head, apparently, and after one in the morning they take control.

I say go for it.  Indulging in mmaturity can be fun, especially when you're older...  :P

Part of being older is accepting all your inner children. Only those who have recently become adults worry about being immature.

Accepting you inner child usually also entails knowing when it should not be accepted as well.

Nah, let the inner child loose, it can steal the car keys and run off to a party - sounds like a lot more fun than working and paying a mortgage.

Tanith enqires of her inner child. "Do you want to read Lupus' chapter 69?"

Inner child, "Yes, yes, smut, I want the smut."

Tanith, "But Lupus' story is still on our need to read list - we would have to read all the chapters."

Inner child, "Yes, there's smut, and it sounds like a good story."

Tanith, "But we have a Zev thread prompt to write for and the next chapter in our fic hasn't even been started yet."

Inner child, "But you just said that stuff about working, the mortgage...."

Tanith, "Sigh, okay, but we have to write our stuff first, then we can read Lupus' fic, smut included."

Inner child, "Can we have smut in our fic?"

Tanith, "I'm not good at smut, suggestion yes, smut - well maybe I'll try. Now off to write so we can read Lupus' story soon."

Inner child kicks sofa and throws tantrum.

Tanith spanks child.

Child cries.

Tanith, "Go to your room now!"

Inner child, "I'll hate you forever."

My inner child has very few chances for fun these days.

"Everyone's going to see Skinny Puppy in the next city over tonight. Why are you home dressed like a slob."

"I have a paper on Macbeth to write! And a midterm in three days!"

"So? Never stopped you before! Come on, reunion tour. That guy with the steampunk tattoo will probably be there, you know he'll buy you drinks all night!"

"No! I'm the second oldest undergrad on campus next to the eighty year old lady who I honestly think might be senile and forgot she graduated sixty years ago. Can't screw up again!"

"You used to be cool. You used to party!"

"Shut up, I'm on the dean's list. I have a scholarship to worry about!"

"Dork."

So, you know, if the inner child cries out for a dick joke or smut scene in fanfic I'll indulge. They don't get much else anymore.

I don't think I actually have an inner child. More like an inner responsible person at this point. Posted Image

Oh, and I want to thank everyone for being so supportive last night. Posted Image

*Waits for everyone to take turns as saying *We, the Thread, <3 You too Sarah1281!*

"Raonar Takes first turn: "You're welcome!" he says, the light from the spotlight casting a shade around his eyes, granting his irises an eerie glow.

Ahem, yes, moving on.

Well, my twist went off without a hitch, so far. I'll have to ask Tanith how far she saw it coming. ;)

Thank you all for your well wishes!

@Sia- trying for no spoilers on your fic. I kind of wondered for the last couple of chapters how they were going to keep the ship, but I didn't see it coming unti just before it happened. Great twist.

Thanks!

And yeah, though I doubt many here read ME2 stuff, thanks for avoiding the spoilers. :D

As long as you come back. Ezio causes awesomeness. (Watch the Literal ACB trailer. "Kill him with your awesome.")

I got that not long ago, I haven't played much but so far I've liked it.  I was really surprised, everything that bugged me about the first seemed to be fixed in the second.
(and after RPGs my biggest weakness is for those prince of persia style running jumping swinging from the rafters sort of games)

So just wondering, but I am writing a story based on the origins timeline...and currently am writing the portion that occurs around the "Broken Circle" quest-line. Would it be considered poor form if I assume that anyone reading dragon age FF has played DA:O before and so doesn't really need everything explained to them - in particular I was looking forward to avoiding having to go on and on about how Uldred was possessed by a demon and blah blah blah....and just get on with the good stuff. Would that confuse anyone, you think, or would most readers be on board with knowing all that stuff already?

well... I think if you just mention that he merged with a powerful pride demon and turned into a big, ugly creature, people will understand anyway.

I do it all the time.  In the series of letters I wrote people basically just got the scantest of info to figure out what her choices had been, and I just wrote up a recap half-chapter of the events from Lothering to post-Circle/first half of Redcliffe with just enough context clues for people to figure it out, I hope.

Write what makes sense to your story, but especially for the main questlines I think you can assume that people have heard it before.

You would think that it's safe to assume that people reading fanfics for a certain fandom has read the book/watched the movie/seen the show/played the game, wouldn't you? While I'm sure most have, I know that I've gotten a few reviews complaining that I haven't gone into enough detail about the basic aspects of the source material and so they had to look them up, not being familiar with the fandom and I have at least two reviewers of my KotOR story who hadn't ever played it (although one has since been convinced to buy the game).

I honestly do wonder what compels some people to start reading fanfics for something that they know nothing about and refuse to at least research the basic parts of it.

Umm... you're just that good a writer maybe?

Anyway, I am also writing a during-Origins fiction and I've decided to start putting in extracts from Wynne's journal once she finally joins the group. That will give updates on the relationships between characters and will deal with the transitions, so I can also focus on the important stuff. :wizard:

Even stranger is people who read ahead of where they are in the game... and complain about spoilers. I'll never, ever understand that. Ever.

You mean it ACTUALLY HAPPENS?

Isn't that a bit, I don't know, sad?
