I already got a few reviewers (read: 2) that said I made them play the game again. :D

So, I guess Bioware should be all giddy if anything else.

I've had a couple people give me variations on how they want to go through and play the game again with a mage origin so they can be nice to Jowan instead of handing Irving his ass on a platter since I made his character so much more sympathetic.
That just knocked my socks off since he really is one of those characters a lot of people hate deep in their gut just from the moment of meeting him.  (and made me happy since I am all about sharing the Jowan love)

I figured out my hand-wave fixit to this, though.  (thankfully I don't write a Cullen fic, I just have a lot of mages who really like making fun of templars, and one of my OCs is a former templar turned Warden).  It says they have to get permission to marry.  Well.. the chantry, being a right bastard, doesn't really give anyone permission, ever.  And I'm figuring they do have vows to live according to the chantry laws, which seem to include restrictions against premarital sex (if Alistair's struck by lightning comment is any indication), so really, they might as well have a vow of chastity.  *whew*

Not to branch off-topic, but random question:

Is there any Ferelden cursing equivalent to "What the hell?"

Because there are just some instances where "Maker's breath" or "Andraste's flaming (insert random noun here)" just don't... sound quite right. But I haven't heard anyone use something equivalent in-game.

Thoughts?

I've used Black City in place of hell in various curses. Also "What in Thedas!?"

I tend to say "Andraste's ass" entirely too much. Shianni is such a bad influence.

I usually end up translating 'what the hell' to the far milder 'what in the world' as anyone can use it. I do use 'sodding' quite a bit although I'm not quite sure if that's just a dwarf thing or not. None of my dwarves use anything involving the Maker but my other character's do. Although I think 'Maker's breath' sounds kind of stupid.

Yes, yes she is. That one is probably my favorite curse! Posted Image

My elves tend to name their Mabari 'Maker'. Then saying "Maker's breath" makes much more sense.

Of course in my current playthrough the Mabari's name is Dafter. Because there is nothing dafter than being unable to decide between Dane and Hafter for a dog's name.

@ Mousestalker - re: maker's breath - Too funny!  I love it!  It fits so well, especially with the elves being as they are!

None of my both Dalish elves do either, That would be just so wrong. Though with a CE I use it, since they have subdued to the life and religion of the humans. What concerns the swearing I tend to use "Andrastes ass" and "sodding" fairly often or I cheat with "What the..." :P My Dalish goes well with an annoyed "By the Creators/Elvhenan." I might try "Andruil's ass" or similar at times. They have enough gods to swear to after all. :D

Heh!  Maggie's first mabari was Dane.  (only because she met someone who had named his Hafter and didn't want to be a copycat).  She thought she was being quite clever and had no idea that was the most overused dog name in Ferelden.
(of course, her current mabari is named after Isolde... since they're both b*tches)

Although honestly, in most of my playthroughs I go with the classic: Barkspawn.

Makerandrastebugger, I'm quite proud of that one... I also use "Andraste's ******" but admit to using hell sodding, bloody, s*** and f*** although they're all a bit British...

My dogs have been pretty conventional Rex and Fidel...

I use 'bloody' IRL all the time despite my complete and utter lack of British-ness.

Ever since my son found out about Barkspawn that's been the name of choice. My Mabari were born on Dune and secretely transported through a wormhole to Ferelden as they have been Harkonnen and Stilgar in the game. I have plans to name one Helix, and another Mesies for FF purposes.  :)

I suck at Ferelden swearing so try to steer away from it whenever possible.

I love you.

My Cousland's mabari is Charon, all others name their's after someone in their origin (Ron Mahariel's is Tamlen, Rin Brosca's is Beraht, because she thought he was ugly and didn't really want him).

As for swearing, I go for the game standards (Andraste's ass is my personal favorite of the lot) and toss in a boatload of damns and more than a few f*cks. I have a mouth like a sailor, so I make a conscience effort to tone it down in my fic.

It's ok. Gaider says he doesn't read fanfic, so he won't care what we screw up, I guess. :P

which is a real shame because there is some good ones out there. ;)

To be honest, I got rather depressed when I saw him say that. :/

I wonder if he'll play the Zevran DLC. XD

I think there may be more to it than not wanting to read other takes on his world, though. What if he coincidentally writes a character or plot line that's very near to a fanfic? I suspect a lot of authors avoid fanfic of their own work so they don't have to deal with something like the MZB issue discussed here

Yes, he may dip into some fanfic once the DA franchise is well and truly dead if he can be bothered by then of course. And I know I'd be flattered by it but dodgy about reading it if it ever happened to me :).

Yeah, that's possible. I'm not saying he's not allowed to have (good) reasons or anything.

I don't think I would publish fic if I thought David would ever read it. One of my reviewers said that they thought he should see a specific chapter of my story and I'm pretty certain I wet my pants immediately, at the idea.

I had someone in my family say something similar and it gave me nightmares of having to answer to Bioware and having something that I enjoy turn into (shudder) a job!

I was just reading that list of authors that don't want FF.net to publish any fiction based off their own works and laughed when I saw Terry Goodkind......sheesh, hypocrit. I stopped reading his books once I realized he was seriously ripping off Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. :?

I would probably sell my soul to work for Bioware. But, well, I think my fanfic is the last thing I would use as an example of my writing.

Also... question to anyone who posts on DeviantArt

How do I get it so the block of scrolly text shows up as the thumbnail instead of the stupid "poetry and prose" graphic?

I'm lazy about names--I just make more or less random Celtic name picks for Ferelden characters and traditional french names for Orlesians while trying to avoid obviously biblical names. I named my dog Conal in my fanfic (although I actually named him Fifi in the game it's based on!)

Since you were talking about cursing, the best curse in the game is from Morrigan: By Flemeth's beard!

I don't worry about Gaider reading my fic, I've decided to write it in German at long last. This means my audience will be really small.

Ok, so I'm asking something to all those who read the Stolen Throne. How and where did Maric find his famed sword in the Deep Roads?

And why did Bioware make its runes shine gold in the game instead of azure blue?
