Some distance away from the house Ikuku stood still, clutching the bouquet of health poultices he had collected for Regina.

Against the faint glimmer of candlelight coming from the house, his silhouette stood like an apparition in the darkness before dawn

'...Jams chi-ooh-ooh-ooh. Chae na hae-ael...'

At first the chant was barely perceptible, like the echo of a gun fired from a distance, enough to make him turn and search for the source.

With each step however the music appeared to morph and shift until the atmosphere around him was charged with strains of unstruck melody emanating from some fathomless ambience.

It was as if as if he had walked into an unseen orchestra.

For what seemed like an eternity the music permeated his being, rising from the background, then fading once more like a living heartbeat

Then it gathered strength, rising in intensity to a crescendo where the very fabric of reality appeared to warp then tear.

"This is not right..." Ikuku swore as the very air parted to reveal a vast landscape of iridescent beauty.

Yet there it was, a rolling vista of verdant green, teeming with sentient life,... A draft of untamed energy surged from the portal forming a path from the material world into the unknown

"An invitation" he thought sensing a strong persistent ambience radiate from the portal.

Like other strange occurences in his life, this was something to be seen than believed.

Not a bad thing it itself, but I assume it would rile up a lot of you fine ladies here if she just took him all to herself for a whole weekend.

Well... he WAS pestering me to write all weekend while I was visiting friends. But since, unlike Moira, I'm actually married... the husband took precedence. Zev's pouting now.  I'll have to do something about that.

You mean we have to pay attention to those pesky men we're married to? *gasp* Say it isn't so!

As for Zev, just promise to read him some excerpts from the book, "Exotic, Erotic Techniques" (Banned by the Chantry ^_^)  He'll forgive you. lol

Just wondering, but in order to save myself some time instead of searching throughout the 2,000 plus stories, does anyone know of any good PB FF that revolves around either dwarven or elven politics?

Like, for example, maybe a DN-now-Paragon makes a play at becoming King/Queen of Orzammar, or dealing with the aftermath of establishing the chantry in Orzammar or Dagna's research... or maybe the Dalish try to reconnect with the CE brethren or form a rebellion to reclaim their homeland or something else similarly AU epic.

I like the PB stuff dealing with chasing Alistair/Morrigan + OGB just fine, but I now find myself in the mood for something a little bit different....and maybe the fact that I have some ideas for the above bouncing around in my head and am looking to see how someone else has written it has something to do with it too...^_^

Lmao!! That's one of the really nice things about Zev, you can write some really..erm...adventurous scenes with him.
When you think about it....aren't our real life husband's bribable in the same way. Hey honey, come here and "read" this page for me. lol Follow up questions might include, "Hey, honey, you have anything else you want me to read for you?!"

Honestly... I'm afraid not. There are horribly few dwarven-centric tales on FF.net in general (under 100 if I remember correctly, and most of them one-shots), though Sarah will likely be the best qualified to answer your question.

Even my AU is during-Blight... So, sorry, but I guess not. (Yes, I am just as put off by this as you are... sigh)

Yay for husbands being betas!  Mine does the same, and is also a cruel task master as he is constantly cracking his whip to make me get my next chapter out.

I just worry that he might be a little bit biased....because giving me lots of compliments tends to...ahh....work in his favor once the chapter is published.

Edited to say:  And thank you Raonar...that is kinda what I expected to hear.  Seeing as how, what, DG only 5% of players have played a dwarven character, I can't be too surprised at the lack of dwarven FF (though they are *really* missing out...DN origin rocks!!)

I worried about that too until he started playing devil's advocate and giving some really good critical advice. The fact that he says in such a way as to not hurt my feelings is big bennies in his favor. Matter of fact, he's the reason why Ch. 8 turned out so well. You better believe I invited him back to my tent when it was published and so widely enjoyed.

BSN prompts you to fix formatting??

Thanks to all for the suggestions, BTW.

Mine only sees the fic as taking time away from my original work.  If I didn't have the goal of making a living at this, he'd beta the fic stuff, too.   But he's eagerly awaiting the end of my novel so he encourages that more.

Good husband! Since I have no such aspirations I'm free to goof off in fanfic as much as I'd like. But since I also like to do a good job, my husband was the perfect candidate to beta read. He's so picky about what he likes to read that if he likes it than I feel ok for others to read it.  :)

It does indeed. AND it keeps italics/bold/underline in so I don't have to fix that. Posted Image

@FutileSine: I have very little idea about elves and I can't really think of any dwarf stories that fit the criteria. During Blight politics and even pre-Blight politics there are but in addition to the lack of dwarven stories and the even bigger lack of PB dwarven stories, I've noticed that most fics have their Warden either stay in Ferelden as mistress and/or Warden Commander or go traveling so they've pretty much written Orzammar off.

Mine might be the closest thing to elven politics and I haven't really delved into my ideas on it - it's just starting to emerge.  Though even then all I've got in this story, really, is the idea that the Ferelden royalty is making an effort to preserve peaceful relations with the Dalish nation established in the Hinterlands, and to further that effort is tenatively looking at a political marriage, not intending to put a Dalish on the throne but rather have like a second or third daughter marry a Dalish man just to try and further unite the lands.

It has potential for a future way post-Blight fic (Lenaire is Alistair's granddaughter) but I'm not sure yet if I'd actually do it.  If I do, then her elder siblings are made in some way ineligible for the throne (death, magery, I don't know yet) and she becomes the next logical queen, except for the whole betrothed/married to an elf thing.  Then I could deal with the racist aspects of putting an elf up as Prince Consort (unlikely I would do king) as well as the whole human + elf = human thing.  But we'll see, I'm not committed to it yet because I simply don't have enough ideas, and I still have to finish the current story and it's planned sequel which would be directly post-Blight.

You do get hints of what the Dalish have done to try and reach out to their CE brethren though - I don't know if anyone had caught my mention of Amethyne (Iona from the HN origin's daughter) is now living in the Mahariel clan.  Kara and Alistair set up a program to take in the orphans from the Blight and elven children get the opportunity to move to the clans if they are so inclined and Amethyne was one of those children.  I mean, doesn't everyone wish they could do something to help her?

If anyone's interested, there's a new writers' group opening up:  The Writers' Enclave.  It's for both ME and DA fic, though at the moment, it's dominated by ME writers.
