Pancakes and Sausage onna Stick anyone??

See, John Stewart jests but that's totally something my niece and nephew would eat - well, they'd eat the chocoalte chip pancake and leave the sausage but anything on a stick works wonders for them.

Eewww. I remember on my one and only trip to the US (back in the early eighties) how astonished I was at what they would eat. I mean, fried potatoes for breakfast? Bizarre!

Now of course, we have them too. But I wonder if the sausage onna stick thing will ever get more shelf time over here. We have battered savs, but they're like the food you eat when you're so drunk you wouldn't recognise food if it was sentient and jumped down your throat on its own.

Okay here goes!

Chocolate bacon
salty floating in a sea
of sweet ambrosia

Actually, it is really good. The gourmet chocolatier who makes it made it because of the chocolate chip pancakes and bacon she ate as a child. The salty and sweet. And it apparently did so well, she now makes it in dark chocolate too. I hope you like my haiku! I love haikus, you shouldn't have challenged me. I used to win at haiku and poetry writing in school. ^ _ ^

I know, getting used another culture's custom takes a while.  I was straving the first two days when I was in Spain earlier this month because they eat so late.  And the Brits!  I can eat just about anything (except for maple beacon ice cream).  I love fish and chips especially with malt vinegar, but what's with putting corn on your pizza and in your pasta sauce?

LOL I too love fish and chips! The corn I do admit is a bit strange. And Spain does eat really late. I hope you love the haiku Ette, just for you. : D

@EttaStarz - we don't all put sweetcorn on our pizzas or in our pasta sauce, I promise - that is an abomination imho. But then, I think pineapple on pizza is too.

Okay, for my two cents:

Chocolate bacon
salty floating in a sea
of sweet ambrosia

Review:
10 for technical merit: follows 5, 7, 5 syllable form
10 for the jarring imagery of chocolate and bacon, implying a harmony from the discord
10 for the literary allusion and the juxtaposition produced by the usage of ambrosia to create the implied perception   that chocolate bacon is indeed the food of gods -notice the key word is IMPLIED.

Overall it works as a haiku – I like it…but dude, I’m still not eating chocolate bacon.  I can't even muster  enough curiosity to try the chocolate covered potato chips (another Japanese import) at the local candy shop.  :pinched:

And on that note, I'm off to bed with these jarring images in my head...good job, Gil.

LOL, and it is only bits of bacon in a really good chocolate. Thanks for the score on my haiku!

Chocolate covered potato chips... hmmm.

I did have a friend that swore peanut butter and bologna were great together.

That sounds...foul.  I can't imagine a world where that tastes like yum.

Do it!

No really, I think the combination might be quite disgusting. I'm not the biggest chocolate fan in the world. However... pancakes with bacon and maple syrup - lovely!

What is it that Dale Cooper says in Twin Peaks? "Nothing beats the taste sensation when maple syrup collides with ham!"

My housemate tried the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup thing only recently! She said it was a waste of bacon. :D

I agree!

*is for once writing and not procrastinating about it*

I got a thing to ask that, before anyone interjects, is based off of no one here... But! When you read bad fic/writing, do you offer a crit to the writer, or let it go? I got called on my b*tching recently, and the person speaking had a point -I was being catty- but I don't know whether to contact the author and write red pen over everything.

I try and be gentle but firm, and end on a positive note (ACK teacher training). And If it is REALLY bad (but with potential), I try and parse it into smaller more, hopefully, digestible bites for the person to take. If that makes sense. It is just REALLY bad and you can pretty much tell the author is never going to get better, well I leave it. No sense drawing ire or hurting feelings. :( IMHO.

Honestly?  It depends on who the author is and just how bad the piece may be.  I beta'd for a person (you know who I'm talking about Soignee) that is/was writing a pretty horribly piece of fanfic.  Mary Sue to the max, inadvertantly copying other's work and claiming it as her own, and a myriad of other sins filled her work.  I tried to be honest with her and red-lined the crap out of her story.  She chose to ignore a good portion of my edits.

I'm not a big fan of leaving negative reviews for others to see.  If i'm going to leave a review (and I usually try to do that), I try to find something in the story that I like and concentrate on that.  I want to encourage people to write because hey, I love it so.  The only time I will leave a public negative review is when someone does something so obviously grrrrr that I can't resist -- such as Zevran giving the f!warden roofies so that he can rape her and make her love him over Alistair.

I do try to send private PMs if I feel I have something constructive to offer the author as I would hope people would do the same for me.  You only get better with advice.

Eh, I'll think I'll leave it be. I feel like I'm the party pooper that tells kids to keep it down and no, you can't have your ball back.

Yeah, I give it in a private email too Tasmen. I don't like leaving it in reviews.

Okay, seriously, Zev resorting to roofies? Um, yeah that is not, um, yeah I don't even know what to say about that.:pinched:

Damn kids get off my lawn?  ROFL!

@soignee - unless the author has contacted you, and asked you to beta or crit their work, it would be extremely rude, impertinent and unkind - I think anyway - to edit their writing. How would you feel? Also, I'm not sure I would have the confidence in my own writing, to approach someone from that 'lofty' a position.

(Nods silently in agreement while sipping tea and reviewing bland writing.)

At my day job, just to be clear ;)

oh no I don't mean editing, I mean offer a review of "this doesn't work, this is out of character..." etc, or a PM. Lord no, I would never copy paste an entire story into word and red writing it, or anything, then send it back,

That's farrrr too much effort and I am naturally lazy, don't you know!
