I think Surely has it... he would have to be cautious. How would Ferelden react to finding out their king wasn't just a bastard (probably something that gave quite a few pause) but a half-elf bastard? I can actually see the general populace being far less forgiving than the landsmeet should it become public given the open and blatant racism against elves. Like, rioting level bad.
That's what I was thinking too. It really depends on how and when it comes to light. I think he'd react differently if it were pre-Landsmeet, and also depending on how recent his interaction with Goldanna was. If it were later and he was an established king with a (loving) wife and child, then I see him as being cautious -- not only for himself, but for what it would mean for the kingdom, and also his child.
In regards to talking about fanfiction/writing in general -- I never talk about it. I'm rather private and not talkative in RL, and only two people even know I play video games. Someday maybe I'll 'come out', and be the crazy fan-fiction-writing videogamer cat lady. Until then, shhhhh. It's a secret!

You know what would be interesting? If post-Blight, Alistair was determined to have a relationship with his sister and his nieces and nephews and so actually put the work into it to get Goldanna to warm up to him and was taking care of the family...and then Fiona enters the picture.
Or maybe Goldanna got eaten during the attack on Denerim. >.> And Alistair hunts her kids down to make sure they're taken care of properly! That idea, I like.

I sort of like this idea. Actually, I like it a lot. It's pretty win-win, unless Goldanna knows for certain that she and Alistair aren't really siblings. I don't see him abandoning her once Fiona shows up; as far as he's concerned they both got hosed by Maric and Eamon's plot.

Ah Goldana, Ferelden's original gold digging ****.
Best part is, she never brought up the money issue with me. Then again, I insist on playing characters with maxxed Coersion (being one of the few worthwhile skills.)
The conversation basically goes like this every time:
Goldanna: Who the hell are you?
Alistair: I'm your brother! Hug me!
Goldanna: Screw you!
Warden: [Persuade] That wasn't very nice.
Goldanna: Fine. Go away.
And in recent times, the next conversation invariably becomes this:
Alistair: My sister not love me. Me sad.
Warden: Lulz be tougher nao.
Alistair: I is hardened.
^^^ Shows how I feel about Alistair's hardening. Why couldn't his hardening be as cool as Maric's?

Question to writers:
Do you have trouble talking (aloud!) to people about your creative endeavours? Would you say you keep pretty quiet about it, make some humble response, or do you wax eloquent?
I have serious issues demonstrating what I do creatively with anyone else, whether it be writing, drawing (well, THIS I'm fully prepared to admit I have no reason to discuss with anyone - it's that bad!), music, etc. I've had problems all my life with pursuing something creative, only to have whatever I'm doing shot down in a pretty spectacular fashion.
I have mentioned in passing and as a very (very!) aside that I've been "practicing my writing," but I haven't mustered up the courage to actually show husband, parents, friends what I've been doing. That's only been a couple of times now; otherwise, I do the opposite of waxing eloquent.

I'll join you on the serious issues side. I wane ineloquently.
Although a little part of me wants to copy Soignee and tell people, Me? Oh, dorf pr0n. Although in my case I guess it would be more like mage pr0n. It doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Maybe I should just tell them ALL that I write Kinkmeme. That should shock enough people that they don't ask for a long, long time. Especially if I detail out a few prompts

I think most people assume Fiona is Alistair's mother not only because of the age, but because of the fact that if he's not, that means there might be a third Theirin bastard running around out there. Add to that the fact that Book Maric really doesn't come across as the cheating on Rowan (who he loved) type or the bang a random maid type, and it seems like a solid theory.
Don't forget the timing of it all too - Alistair's the right age to be Fiona and Maric's son.

Okay, I have a more or less weird question. Among torture methods, how painful would you say is nail pulling (pulling out fingernails or toe nails)? As in, would it make sense for a seasoned warrior to scream because of it?
Yes, I am writing something of the sort.
I imagine it'd be excruciating. The nail bed (the part of the nail you don't see) goes pretty far back up the finger past the part of the nail that you *do* see.
Do not read the next paragraph if you're squeamish!
I damaged my hand several years ago - "degloved" a finger - and the nail bed on the torn up finger (it was a pretty bad injury) got totally mashed as part of the injury. I ended up losing the nail also, and not only did the finger hurt like hell for a long time, the nail bed and the last joint of the finger were hypersensitive beyond belief for months upon months. To this day, the cuticle on that finger is *still* hypersensitive and causes me pain if I hit it the wrong way or cut it. And I experienced that injury eight years ago. Considering that injury wasn't even focused on the nail itself and the nail grew back, I'd say the torture method you suggested could cause a person to scream in pain.
Safe to read again now, although I'm done.
I hope that helps!

Well, we are weird here, Firky's a creep, I'm an and Alistairian necrophile, and, you, sir, cap us all...
My reply. Yes it bloody would. It was used by the ****s wasn't it. I guess you need to ensure the reader appreciates just how painful it is so your char doesn't come over as a sissy.... Not that I would think that of him...

Also. Totally unrelated but does Oghren ever confirm or deny the existence of any siblings?
