That said, I don't think anyone thought of it as ruining his life, per se. Yes, there was the no children requirement but that would be useful for stopping more illegitimate Theirins from running around and causing problems and plenty of people join orders requiring vows of celibacy willingly. The big problem with being a templar seems to be the lyrium addiction but no one outside of the Chantry even knows about that. Also, he's far happier among the Grey Wardens then he would have been being neglected at Redcliffe.

Well, Isolde still demaded it, and you know what they say: It's the thought that counts.

PC: Why would Eamon support Alistair's bid for the throne, then?
Loghain: Because Eamon, for all his merits, is a conservative man. He believes in tradition and inheritance, and would never see the daughter of a freeholder, however gifted, in power.
PC: I don't think Eamon is that petty.
Loghain: No? You might want to wonder, then, how a blood mage ended up employed by his household. How likely was it that only Isolde was aware of Connor's gift? Eamon knew. And he allowed it to be hushed up so the boy could remain heir. Better that than allow the arling to go to his childless younger brother, only to pass out of the hands of the Guerrin family altogether.
Now, I know that Loghain doesn't know this for a fact but that seems like a really good point. Eamon would either have to be ridiculously oblivious or he had some idea of what was going on. If nothing else, he knew who Jowan was, that Jowan was responsible for the bad things happening, and that Jowan was a mage. Why else would an apostate mage be staying in their castle and tutoring their son?

Isolde is just a mother who wants to save her child (and her husband), who is confronted with a situation that is spiralling out of control. She's only partly responsible for the mess. I'm sure Eamon knew what was going on and Isolde was trying to protect his reputation when she claimed it was all her doing. Not bloody likely.
I don't think Isolde was responsible for sending Alistair to the Chantry or having him sleep in the stables. Eamon is an arl, he does have power, one word of him could have prevented all of it. Eamon was set on raising Alistair as a commoner and I'm sure the Chantry option sounded fantastic for him. The boy would be educated, trained as a warrior and marriage was unlikely. Perfect.
I also don't think this fate was particularly cruel. My Wardens often tell Alistair he had it better than most orphans.
Let me sum it up: I like Eamon and Isolde because they are interesting characters.

This. And I'll go a step further to say inexcusable.Corker wrote...
I think my problem with Isolde is less with her motivation and more with her continuing denial. After a certain point, it no longer matters who summoned the demon or how it took possession of Connor; it matters that it's slaughtering the entire palace staff, animating the corpses and slaughtering the village as well.
Her reluctance or inability to understand what was going on and what her responsibility to her people was is *understandable,* I think, but not *excusable.*
Hiding Connor's magic? Understandable
Wanting to save her son from being sent to the Circle? Understandable.
Wanting to save her son's life? Understandable.
Letting an entire village be slaughtered while she stood by, and then acting on behalf of the killer? No, that's the line she crossed. If she couldn't leave the castle before it would make sense, but the first chance she gets to go into town she not only doesn't have a single word for the death surrounding it, but she manipulates another into the trap. Not only that, but since she didn't know the Warden and party were there, she was taking away what until then had been the only one organizing protection of the villagers, making it that much easier for the demon to kill them.
At that point she might as well be killing people herself.

Have you ever told Loghain that you don't think Eamon is that petty after asking why Eamon would support Alistair's claim to the throne if Alistair would only do a mediocre job? That involves outright speaking highly of Eamon once and implying it a second time.KnightofPhoenix wrote...
wtf, how do you get this dialogue with Loghain? I never got it! And I am on excellent terms with him! Do we need ejoslin's fix?

I don't think I ever had the option to ask why Eamon wanted Alistair. Does that require me putting Alistair on the throne?

Yes, you'll have needed to marry Alistair to Anora to get this as well. In addition to being able to ask if he thinks Anora will make a good queen, you'll get to ask if he thinks Alistair would make a good king. If you have a pre-Landsmeet save with a hardened Alistair, it would be really easy to just marry the two and have one conversation with Loghain back at camp to get that dialogue.KnightofPhoenix wrote...

I obviously have to get the toolset because I don't think I can bear to talk to Loghain that much. Oh, maybe Aedan will... Although it's against Aedan's principals to get to know ANY of his party except for Morrigan because she's hot. And possibly Shale because she has the same view of flesh creatures that he does.
I wish there was a way to see referrers on ffnet. I'm think I might have been linked somewhere and would love to know where...

Oh, definitely ditto. I mean, you can always google yourself or your story but then you get all the favorites lists on ff.net and communities you're in. One place I hate being recommended is the Dark Lord Potter forums, however, because seeing what they have to say about my things depresses me for hours.LupusYondergirl wrote...

I just did that with my FF.net nick, and it's the same one I use for photobucket (what can I say, it makes it easier for me to remember stuff if I use the same name), and was amused that there are people using my awful screen caps for stuff. And they weren't my rampant posts in the Ali thread either.

(Although I think I did find what looks like someone translating my first story chapter by chapter on a Russian fanfic forum. But hey, they linked me so it's all cool. And for all I know it's actually link to my profile, a link to Gala's art from the story, and then page after page after page of different recipes for cheesecake since I can't read a word of Russian.)

I use Sarah1281 for everything unless the site says it's taken in which case I go with Yunie1281 which, fortunately, never is as I don't want to have to remember three different user names.Reika wrote...

Anyone else have trouble doing dialogue with two people from the same sex? I'm going crazy thinking of things to call people other than "he" or "she". "The assassin" "the warden" "the elf" "the templar" "the mangy git" GAH.
