So I just got the preview of my new Aimo commission and it is - as expected - epic!

Wow. How long does it take her to do something like that?

Depends on how much work she has. I had her do one that took less than a week back in June from asking her to do it until she sent the preview and this one I asked her about a month ago but I think she ended up sending me an invoice on Paypal about a week and a half ago.

That's so beautiful, Sarah <3

*note to myself* Need a FA with Lenya (and Alistair) someday. Though it's somewhat hard to decide on a fitting image/posture for a commission without being too much clichéd with it . Hmm.... *ponders*

I love it, Sarah!

@Sia: it took about a month and a half for my Aimo pic. I think it just depends on her current workload.

Ah-ha another interesting kink-meme fill is in the offing, was that the Anora, Alfstanna, Ser Cauthrin, Leliana one?

I seriously feel dirty about the last thing I wrote for tentparty. So wrong.

I swear, I think the next time I play a new mage I'll have to avoid Cullen so I don't feel like he's judging me.

I recommend confession... I've only read the first couple of postings so far, but I did like them they set the scene for seduction very convincingly...

To misquote Oscar Wilde "There is no such thing as moral or inmoral fic.
Fics are well written or badly written. That is all."

Nah, that one was Miri's. Mine's the far more, um, twisted one that's already finished. I prefer to post things all at once instead of bit by bit.

Ooops! I've obviously got to be able to distinguish between different flavours of twisted, never mind, more fun to be had...

Okay, newbie writer here! *waving*

I wind up writing fairly short one-shots on something that just comes into my head full blown. (I'm Jannifer on ff.net. *waving at Gil*) The thought of a longer work just blows my tiny little mind. As an English major, I'd feel obligated to do character sketches and outlines and stuff. For synopses, I'd suggest just giving your reader a general idea of where your story starts. Just kind of set the scene -- if they find it interesting, they'll read it. When I was writing research papers and the like, I always wrote my introductions and decided on my titles last because I really couldn't come up with anything until I'd written the rest of the paper. This is also a technique I suggested to my students if they had problems with same.

Okay, I freely admit that I like smexy stuff. I even like mild kink. I do have to wonder how one goes about writing that kind of scene, since I haven't a clue. Any suggestions, comments, explanations?

Out of some awkward boredom, I wrote my first (hopefully never-to-be-published) smut fic.

I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Kind of like siding with Darth Vader in... well, anything.

Edit: Welcome, Janni!

Welcome Janni, just read Lupus' fic, good stuff that I'm sure Oscar would approve... Smexy, as some of us aspire to do it at its best, methinks.

I'm not as good as Lupus but I'd say a key is know your characters, people don't stop having a personality when they start having sex, in fact sex is an expression of the self... A very profound one.  In Lupus' fic, Anders is talkative and extroverted and helps the repressed Cullen come to terms with his sexual yearnings, very much in character (even though he turns out to be a desire demon).  That I think is one of the nicest things about kink-meme requests people actually want to see the character engaging with the action not just any one... and that can really be a great help to the writer because you know the kind of reactions they want to see as well as the kind of action...

Apart from that, some say music helps, I've been thinking of a sex scene these last days, and I can't ge Michael Nyman's "The Heart says Pleasure First" out of my head, but that's just me...

And if I sound like granny teaching you to suck eggs... Just tell me to ****** orf!!!:o

Thanks for the welcome, Maria, and no, you don't sound like you're telling granny how to suck eggs. (And where did that expression come from? Sucking raw eggs? ick) This was exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Yay! \\o/

@Maria: Thank you! ^_^

I honestly think my biggest problem with any kmeme stuff is that I'll put in, say, five pages of dialogue and plot before the smut begins. I just can't toss two or three people in a room and have them going at it, though. Which is well and good when you're writing a huge fic and have smut between two of the characters, but I sometimes think for kmeme people just want the, um... *exciting* bits.

And music definitely helps. Anders-smut usually gets Depeche Mode. Zevran-smut gets Lords of Acid.  I think I was listening to the sound of my own brain melting in rebellion for the cullen smut, though.

(Oh, and this is the story Maria was talking about)

Not at all.

I like context, context is good. I think a lot of the k-m folks do too, praise often is: "This was so HOT" and then, "and Alistair was really in character..."

Happy Thanksgiving, Lupus.

Thanks. It's not a particularly good one for me since my sister went into the hospital this morning after her water broke. But last I heard she's all right, and they stopped her from going into labor (she's due in February), so I guess that's my big thankful thing.

I feel bad, she'll be stuck there for weeks (or as long as they can hold off labor), and I can't even go visit until after finals. I tried to look into plane tickets this morning but, well... I can't afford three months rent money for one plane ticket.

So I'm occupying my mind with a mixture of thesis and fanfic. More the latter since my thesis is kind of depressing, even with the new twist my topic has moved towards. (It was "the Tempest as Shakespeare's end of life renunciation of the theater" but it is slowly moving towards "The Tempest as Shakespeare's answer to the Faust story." I may go back and edit so it all fits that a bit more, since I'm finding a lot more on it.)

I am so sorry to hear this. It must be very distressing for you.

I too find that fan fic helps me cope with the stuff of real life. There's nothing like a good fantasy life to make up for some of the crap that goes on in reality...

I wish your sis all the best too, it must be worrying times for her.

Thanks. We're all going a bit nuts. I was just told she's doing "really good" though, with no sign of going into labor, though.

*crosses fingers*

I'm so sorry, Lupus! I hope she and the baby will be well and you win the lottery so you can fly home to help her.

Well, this is writing related, though probably not fanfic. I may print this out and tape it to my desk:

I am a writer, and I will finish the sh*t that I started.

To hell with printing it out, I need this tattooed on my forearm. Sheesh.

In other news, I hate/love when outside entertainment influences the way the characters in my story talk. On the one hand, it can break characterization. On the other, it can be amusing. Like I just had Anders monologue a bit and, reading it back, all I can hear is Garrus Vakarian.

I get that, too. When I was on a big Firefly kick Anders started to sound like Mal Reynolds. To the point that other people picked up on it and commented on how 'my' version of Anders reminded them of Mal. Which was completely, totally not at all what I was going for but... I can live with that.
While it's awesome I can apparently mimic Whedon style dialogue, it's sad I can only do it when I'm completely not paying attention. And if I tried to do it intentionally everyone comes out sounding like they've been poorly translated into another language and then back into English again.

Looks like I made my public service announcement for the rest of the year.

Alistair and Garrus start sounding alike for me. That's when it's time to go write something else.
