Apparently, today is release day. I think almost every story I've got a story alert on has added a new chapter. o_O Wow.

Heh, it wasn't for me. I never did finish all the writing I needed to do this weekend. But hey, my Christmas tree is up.

I thought you fanfic writers might be interested, A few amazing artists have started doing commissions, and I'm going to shamelessly pimp them:

Galagraphia, the gorgeous woman who did this for me:

And Cave_Fatuam, the equally gorgeous woman who did this for me:

Give them lots of money. Lots and lots of money. Immediately.

Edit to add:  FYI - Gala's spots are full. She may be accepting new requests in February, though.

I will happily join in this pimpage and show off more of these artist's awesome stuff. Like I need an excuse to show off art of my characters. ;)
As long as no one tries to gank my slot with Gala. ;)

Yes, because money isn't what really matters in the world, but it really helps.

Right?

Well, DA2 isn't free. ;)

I'll happily support artists I like when I'm able to (especially since both of these awesome ladies have done amazing stuff for me and other authors in the DA fandom out of the goodness of their hearts in the past.)

That's all beautiful work. I'm afraid I'd never be able to pay for a Moira/Zev/Al portrait, though.

@Raonar Absolutely. People who say money can't buy happiness aren't looking in the right shops...

Did I come across as incredibly shallow? Sorry if I did. I just love these two ladies - their art styles are so different.

The reason I'm so obsessed with fanart for fanfics at the moment (aside from the fact that I'm obsessed with it in general) is that my latest commission from Aimo came through and I'm thinking of making PDFs of all my stories (that'll be a long term project) with art through them. Another author twist_shimmy on Dreamwidth, did a magnificent PDF of her fic "Strangers with Cookies" (it's a Sten romance, if you haven't read it, do!) and I've been thinking about doing the same for mine....

Edited to add: Tankgirly, also one of my favourite artists, has also got commission slots open. It's a bit like Christmas for me at the moment!!

Perhaps some of the artists would accept an exchange a picture for a story, say...

Or you respect the artist and pay their time and effort with money =D.

Oh, I respect them... I just can't pay them. So no commissions from me, sorry. Moira will remain in my imagination or on paper.

A lot of artists will do art trades on DevArt - I think it's a great idea, but I'm also totally up for giving money to people who put time and effort into things that I love. I mean it comes down to the same thing - you're exchanging time and effort (your work that turns into cash, or your work that turns into stories and art) for something that takes time and effort. BUT unfortunately you can't buy food with someone else's time and effort unless they've gone to the trouble to convert it into cash first. So.

I can't draw. I'm trying to learn, but it'll be a long time before I can do something up to the standard of these ladies - if ever. So in the meantime I'll pay them to do it for me :).

My dad was an artist, a pro, hardly sold a picture in his 60 years of life... Halo? My dad had a martyr's palm and if there is a heaven for atheist artists he made it there, sometimes I like to think about that.

I have paid Aimo for a piccy or two, thing is I've just lost my job so no spare mullah to spend but I am willing to trade.

BTW Soignee was reading DDW today, good stuff...

Okay, so a question for you people.

Did you ever try to write about insanity... from the insane person's point of view? I mean specifically putting insanity into words form the perspective of said person Say, someone is losing his/her mind and getting her memories and emotions mixed up. Add to that chronological incoherence and you've got a horrible paste of ideas that you have to put on paper, or in this case in a doc.

This is what I'm trying to do and it's taking so long...

Well, ever written something like this? or read something of the sort?

I'd trade art for art, but my artist skillz run to stick figures, so that doesn't seem especially equitable. The only people I admire more than artists are musicians. I'd probably give a limb or two to be able to hit the right notes.

One thing to consider is: does the person from whose POV you're writing know they're insane? Or do they think they're sane and it all comes out insane?

The thing about an insane person Raonar, is they don't see they're insane. They DON'T know what they're feeling/seeing/sensing is not real. Writing an insane person is very difficult. Especially if you're telling the story from their POV.

I do have a question, though... how can an artist charge for fanart? I can't charge money for any stories based off DA:O...

Soignee and other artists that make drawings, paintings etc. If you want them to make you a picture, a commission as it were, you pay the via PayPal or something and they make said drawing/painting in exchange. You just have to tell them what you want (Sarah's current profile photo is a commission by Aimo.)

As for the insane part: One of my wardens went through a nasty experience with a demon and that kind of screwed up her taint and she's getting her calling earlier... and now she's caught in a sort of state where she can't tell when she's dreaming and when she's awake, and her memories are losing coherence (some she remembered happened earlier than those that happened afterwards, etc, and her mindscape gets attacked by the Archdemon, and a lot of other weird stuff happens, like a mage enters her dream to drive out the Archdemon's intrusion, only that backfires somewhat and only postpones the whole climax... and I'm not making any sense, which is the point so I must be doing SOMETHING right....)

Right?.

Because they're being commissioned to do it by an individual I think - it's not for mass production or display, it's just for the person.

They don't charge for all fanart. Whenever Aimo draws her own Lady Aeducan, for instance, there is no money involved. Whenever one of us wants her to draw our characters or a specific scene with existing characters then we pay her to do it.

Yeah, but if someone wanted me to write them the story of how their Warden fell for Zevran... I couldn't charge for it.

I just don't get it.

Yus indeed, that is how it works. I can draw Missa/Zevran for freeeeee as it's for my own lulz and amusement, but if someone wants me to draw Morrigan having a serious conversation with an owl and their character, I get paid.

...I now want to draw Morrigan talking to an owl. IDK why either.

Holy crap, that poor Warden.
