Speaking of unusual pairing, what kind of odd ones DID you stumble upon? Just so I can compare my own (though shipping is just a secondary element of my tale or third if think about it well enough).

I've seen a lot of f!PC + random male character.  I've gotten to where I see these as normal:  Alistair, Zevran, Teagan, Loghain, Anders, Nathaniel Howe and Cullen.  But in addition I've seen:  Kylon, Ser Perth, Gorim, Lenke (the last two only unusual in that no one seems to write dwarfs, other than the awesome Sarah.  QQ), Nelaros, Ser Gilmore, Nial, Mouse, and probably others that I'm forgetting.

In the world of f!Slash, I've seen a reasonable amount of f!PC + Anora, Leliana, and Morrigan.  Others (Bella, Kaitlyn, Alfstanna, Isabella) have occurred, but seem rare.

M/M slash seems mostly Nathaniel Howe/Anders and Alistair/Zevran, m!PC/Zevran, and a little bit of Loghain/Maric (which I think totally makes sense if you've read TST).

As far as male PCs, I've mostly only seen male PC + Morrigan, Leliana, and Anora.  There's probably other stuff out there, but I'm missing it.

Non-PC romances seem really weird, other than Morrigan/Alistair, Anora/Alistair and the male slash pairings listed above.  I've also seen Cauthrien/Loghain, Cauthrien/Teagan, Shianni/Vaughan, Anora/Fergus, Anora/Loghain, Alistair/Cailan, Isolde/Teagan, Isabella/anyone, Howe/Anora, and probably a few other weird ones.  This is my favorite area, though.  I'm having a blast with: Cailan/Anora, Nathaniel Howe/Anora, Cauthrien/Alistair, Connor/Habren, Alfstanna/Teagan, Cailan/Celene, and now need to get around to shipping the rest of the characters.  Suggestions for very weird pairings are always appreciated.  (I totally love them...)

Hah, can you tell that trying to categorize the kmeme is my hobby?  (I post so much to LJ about popular pairings and my WTF feelings on them.)

Yes. And Shale/Sten.  People write some weird stuff.

Wynne/Alistair is also fun, as is Wynne/Oghren.  Really, you can almost pick up a hat, throw the names in, pick two out, and it has been done.

Wynne/Greagoir is super popular, though, to where it's fanon that Cullen is their son.  Wynne/Irving is also popular.

Nothing is too weird for fandom!

I assume you mean LeSke? The companion for the DC?

And I'm hurt :P I seem to have gone unnoticed as a writer of dwarves. (though most of us do get unnoticed :P) I admit though, since Sarah's long-running Tragic Figure finished, it has become hard to find any dwarf tales out there.  I don't suppose you intend to write any sequels, Sarah-chan? or maybe a tie-in with Dragon Age 2 when that game comes out?

So far, the only real pairing that exists in my tale is Brosca/Tabris (strange enough for you?)... besides Cousland-Alistair, only Gwenith Cousland is a sort of cute briser that has anger management problems (Alistair is a bit wary of her temper).

I've got to say, your stories contain the most unusual pairings out of any I've ever read and despite the fact that I never would have seen some of them together, when it happens it makes sense. It's to the point where I don't even consider Anora/Nathaniel to be an odd pairing anymore (or Loghain totally shipping them for that matter).

Or Brosca/Aeducan. Posted Image

And I might end up doing an Awakening story but that would be more about Loghain and Angélique (not together, of course, his head would explode) than Aunn since she's off in Orzammar although my Sereda Brosca could always decide to go off and find the Wardens. I'll have to actually play DA2 before I decide anything about writing it.

And then there's that epic-length HP story 'Harry Lockhart' I've been wanting to write ever since I discovered that I was capable of making people not hate Lockhart... And I'm still not done reading Lupus' fic...

Damn, why do I have other things to do besides fanfiction?!?! Posted Image

I think it's not just rare pairings that are getting attention now too - although I think it's great that they are. I love that fandom is mixing it up a bit more and branching out.  It also seems like if you can find a way to take a pairing that's been done a lot and do something really unusual with it or make it stand out in some major way from all of the others that grabs people's attention quickly, people seem to like that. (I'm guessing this is what's happened with my Batman!Tabris/Catwoman!Zevran story, which has been decently popular - especially in comparison with my other stuff, lol.)

Really? I know you read my Naruto story and that had a character openly shipping a HoYay (or perhaps FoYay) pairing. Granted the guys involved didn't feel that way, but still...Posted Image

I think it's fun as long as it doesn't come from nowhere. In DA where it often does, I prefer it to be set up properly if it's not just a one-shot. Good job on that by the way. Posted Image

You DO realize those two guys don't really have that kind of a relationship right? (note the rhetorical nature of that statement).

I will admit, as side characters I've shipped Teagan /Alfstanna and Nathaniel/ Sigrun,

Edit to add...

I admit, the Teagan one I pulled from thin air.  it was my desire to give him a woman remotely near his own age and not some teenage orphan.  Seriously, dude, you're forty.  Leave the coeds alone!
I can totally justify Nate and Sigrun, though.

I kind of want to do a f!Aeducan/Loghain fic. Or a Jowan one. Maybe even a Jowan one where the Warden isn't a mage, f!Brosca maybe... I'm sort of feeling like my next story should be one of the dwarf origins. (I can really sympathize with being a foot shorter than everyone around you and not being able to reach high shelves. As the stepladder in my kitchen would attest. )
I was debating a Daveth-lives AU but I'm kind of eh about it now.

Re: the fandom as a whole...
I haven't noticed a drop off in reviews/readers as of late. Maybe it's because Anders is currently fairly popular? Not sure. I've actually been getting a lot of new people adding me to their alerts and so on over the last couple weeks, which I attributed to people who got the Ultimate Edition and are just now getting into the fandom. That, and I posted a ton of my one-shots and my first fic on DeviantArt, which got more attention than I had expected, so maybe people are going from there? No clue. I can't figure out where most of my readers come from.

@Sarah, I will seriously dance for joy if you do a Loghain with but not with Angelique fic. The two of them together... I'm giggling just thinking about it now.

My Neria was written mostly as a mockery of harem fic, though.  ;)  That said, yeah, if she saw the Architect, she'd totally be after him.

I'm glad that my weird pairings make sense.  I will totally admit to loving strange things. It's like a challenge.  "Huh, can I get these two together?  Let's try!"  I can't wait to start forcing Loghain to hook up with random noblewomen.  ^_^

Oh.... another thought about drops in hits/reviewers. Right now is finals week for a lot of college students, and it's the holidays. It could just be that people are too busy to read for fun at the moment.

God knows I should be working on a final paper now, but I just wrote about fifteen pages for an in-person final and my brain is shot.

OMG, I so want to see Nathaniel/Sigrun...this I must look up!

I'm working on f!Aeducan/Loghain is an awesome pairing.  There must be *more*!

And, yeah, Alfstanna/Teagan really does make sense.  They're age appropriate.  Teagan + teenager really weirds me out.

Wynne/Irving is almost too plausible to count, and Shale/Oghren would make sense if it was post-Tevinter Shale in Dwarf form. Now if they were trying Wynne/Morrigan or Isolde/Loghain, that would be weird.  Has anyone done a Shale/Caridin romance?

If I ever wrote smut, then I might have spent an idle afternoon sorting through the odder unfilled requests last prompt fill. But I don't, so I didn't. At least, there's no evidence of that ever happening.

As far as the kmeme goes, no Shale/Caridin and no Isolde/Loghain.  I did find a touch of Wynne/Morrigan, though:  http://dragonage-kin...160520#t1160520

Admittedly, though, this is only the kmeme.  There's a lot more fandom out there where people have come up with some truly weird stuff.

I can totally see a kmeme prompt of Shale wanting to get one last tumble in before becoming a golem and Carridan obliging.

I'm amazed it hasn't been done...

All right, speaking of pairings, well, not really, but it is semi-related... For some reason the back of my head is saying that humans average about 6', elves 5'5 and dwarves 5' in DA universe. Is that... remotely accurate?

Awww...thanks.  I think that it's a really logical pairing.  I can totally see them hooking up through the game, and only not getting together as each refuses to give up their own Bann.  Really, though, I think that you can pair just about any human noble with any other...they just might not like each other very well.  ;)

I'm personally cracking up at some of the Hawke pairings I'm now starting to see.  Or, really, any PC with PC.

I think I asked something like this before...

When you ladies and/or gentlemen update a story, how many hits max do you get on that day, or the day after? 300, 400, 1000? More?

I barely ever manage to get 400 on a new chapter, but that's because I have dwarf protagonists and don't mention pairings in the summary. What about you guys/gals (you can mention the type of story and the characters too, so i can get a feel of things).

BTW, I think what Lupus (I think it was Lupus) said about the holidays and finals thing might be it when ti comes to hits because weirder things started happening (suddenly my last chapter got more hits than it did the past two days, even though it was updated on Sunday... so yeah).

BTW, do you people want some cake?

I'm reluctant to share actual counts on the forum...we've discussed the popularity of certain pairings and origins before, and numbers could get people upset. So just observations from me. If you're that curious I'd be willing to PM you.

So. Depends on where the story is at, I think. Speaking for myself (and looking back at the stats just now), I noticed The Hunt (fem!Cousland/Zevran/Dog chasing romanced!Alistair who left at the Landsmeet when Loghain (US) was spared, post-Blight, beyond Ferelden) peaked towards the end (near chapter 40) and ended on a high. Among other things, I attribute it to a) the story having gone on for long enough (roughly six months) to have generated enough favourites and no-FF.Net-account-followers that there was a 'guaranteed' number of visitors, B) the fact the story was at the climax, c) if the chapter was enjoyed, some people go back and read it again.

I was also updating at least once a week, so the regular appearance on the Front Page didn't hurt in attracting the merely curious.

As for the day after, it looks like I was getting a range of 1/4 to 1/2 of the Day One stats (with the exception of The Early Days, which are all over the place).

Upon checking stats of the sequel, The Kill, it looks about comparable. It isn't generating as many hits as The Hunt did near the end, but then it's a different story (Zevran, Shianni, Shale, Tevinter Imperium, Blood Mages and the Denerim City Elf slaves Loghain sold), still in its teens, and chapters have been irregular to date.

Edit: I can has cake?
