I just took a breather from my Warden/Orlesian Warden story long enough to write an Anders/Keili story that has now turned them into my Dragon Age OTP. Maybe because they're the only two I've managed to give a happy ending to? IDK. I'm going to resist the urge to write more of them though b/c I *need* to focus on my longfic I have a commitment to the subscribers!

Seriously, every time I open the page (which is a lot lately since my Dalish character is all 'zomg I must speak Elvish to confuse all of you!'), this is what glares at me all disapprovingly:

I thin it's getting to me. Every time I see it, part of me wants to shout, "It wasn't me! I didn't do it, I swear!"

@Sagacious Rage : Someone should have warned you, writing Anders is absurdly addictive.
I have a terrible urge to write "deleted scenes" of all the smut I didn't include in the original. I EVEN HAVE A TITLE! It's going to be called "Some Mistakes Are Built to Last"
I have that stupid longfic though. And, like, other things I should be doing. DAMN YOU ANDERS.

And the crazy thing is I'm at this GREAT spot in it to really go hog wild finally fully embracing this whole new world that I've jammed the Witch and the Warden into, and instead I'm sitting there staring like 2 paragraphs when suddenly a single line of Alistair dialogue gets into my head and I construct a whole scene around it. Ugh.
ANyone have any advice how to get back on track? I want to write my story but Alistair pops up in my thoughts, goin' "Hey, how you doin'? Lets joke about cheese and losing my virginity" and it just goes downhill from there.

I don't actually pay attention to hits. I'm weird.
Looking back on the history of a finished story WRT stats was pretty interesting, seeing the month by month changes and where interest increased between chapters. I hadn't thought to do it before now. Comparing the hits from Chapter 1 to Chapter 44 was a little O_O.
Or to put it another way, nice to look at the full-grown tree and compare how much attention it got when it was only a seedling.

Try talking to Morrigan in DA:O? Listen to some voiceovers or look at her dialogue in the toolset. Basically, get her back in your head.

To get into Zev's head all I need to do is put on ze accent and start making rather poetic innuendos. That or google a Ricardo Montalban "Corinthian Leather" commerical on youtube.Shadow of Light Dragon wrote...
I need to do the same thing for Zevran, actually. At the moment he sounds like Guybrush Threepwood. XD I don't think DA is ready for insult swordfighting.

Isn't that odd, considering that he's not speaking his native language?Maria13 wrote...

The one thing that never convinced me of Zevran is that his character is so at odds with his supposed past. The Crows buy their recruits young, so they can train and influence them - and then obviously undo the advantages of this practice by having them throuroughly educated.
Maybe he's lying about his past. ;-)

OTOH, I don't see learning different languages to be any extraordinary education. It would make sense for assassins to know foreign tongues, especially when they're going to hunt a mark in another country, and Zevran claimed Ferelden was his first time outside Antiva.
(And he definitely lies about some of his past. At least according to the toolset notes.)

...I watched one, and am now picturing Zevran trying to sell a horse with a 'fine Corinthian leather' saddle. XD
The fact he's also saying 'I'm on a horse.' just adds to it, really.

Well, people whose native tongue is a romance language will sometimes appear to have more refined vocabulary because they tend to use more latin-root words because they're more familiar to them. They also will sometimes use more complex sentence structures, and I think that's just a difference of style--it's quite noticeable whenever you read spanish or french novels translated into English. But I don't know if the Ferelden language went through a process of "Orlesianization" that introduced a lot of foreign words that are longer and tend to be viewed as more educated, the way that English did.
It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Zevran is lying about a lot of things about his past. But it might also just be that they thought it would be too annoying to have party members that struggled to express themselves. And I sympathize. I contemplated having Aedan and Alistair struggling in Orlesian, but just couldn't be bothered to write it that way. I could have had them speak only things that I could translate into French myself and have them constantly asking people to speak more slowly and having misunderstandings, but I felt it would just distract from the story.

Dearest Shadow, can you give me some tips on how to open the toolset notes? I downloaded it for the sole purpose of looking at character files for reference, but I can't figure out how to open them. The closest I got was finding Excel sheets of characters' skill trees.
Yes, I'm an idiot.
